Best subwoofers I ever heard. Add a whole new meaning to Home theater. Cost is a little to high. Wonder if Veoldyne or Klispch is better? Can any one tell me. E-mail me at jayvu@hotmail.com Thank you!

Strength:

Powerful Bass

Weakness:

Controls are too complex for average user. Unwanted noise when using Auto turn-on function.

This review is directed to the casual user. I purchased this unit for about $600 (w/cable and tax) at Circuit City, about six months ago. I found the set-up directions very complicated and to this day this "college educated, ex-computer hardware technician" does not understand all of the setting options (does your average person understand mutiple crossover settings?). I found that for months I was getting up and tweeking this subwoofer all the time -- that got very old. It was too loud or too boomy or too something. Then I noticed that there was a soft explosion sound at intermittent intervals. I traced this back to the Auto turn-on function, which I have disabled. I am now satisfied with this unit, but cannot say I enjoyed the experience, nor am I certain I have set this thing up properly. For $600, things should be more plug & play in nature.

Strength:

Bass, can go 16Hz, Lots of wattage, Price

Weakness:

None!

This sub is amazing. The deep bass that is given from this thing is great. It is the ability to go from 16Hz to 110Hz!! At 20Hz my walls shake and windows sould like they are going to shatter! This sub sounds great for hometheater as well as for music. I am using this sub in conjunction with Polk Audio speakers and a Yamaha RX-V800 reciever. It is mind blowing. I recomend Not only the Velodyne CT-100, but also the Yamaha RX-V800 and Polk Audio speakers. They are a very good combination and well worth the money. This is a great sub. Buy it.... right now.... go get it..

The CT 100 offers good bass and build quality. It must be placed in a corner. One must very pay close to the cross over and gain controls. Too much gain results in a "Boom Box", and not a true sub woofer. Below is a list of products used with the CT 100.

Harmon Kardon FL 8350
Kimber Cable KCAG
Classe CAP 151
Kimber Cable TC 8 x2
Mission 772
Target 24"
Monster SW 400

Please note, the last product listed directly relates to the CT 100. I purchased my CT 100 with Monster SW 300, and was unimpressed with the overall results. Within three week, I went back to purchase the Monster SW 400 cables. This cable enables the CT 100 to go deeper with much more contol.

Remember, a sub woofer must be tight, and deliver natural sounding bass. The Monster SW 400 cables took the CT 100 to a new level. A level that would not be possible with lesser cables.

Please audition the Monster SW 400's, you will not give them back, Price? $140.00 for an 18" foot pair.

Strength:

Nice rich sounding bass. Built in cross over

Weakness:

Disturbs the neighbous in a condo it is that rich sounding.

I have had this sub for a couple of weeks and I have to say that I have watched most of my movies over again just to see how they sound. The only problem I have is it probably disturbs my neighbours

Great Design and build quality.

I just bought this sub this last friday night. I got it at Circuit city for 449.00 and I have it hooked up to a Pioneer Elite 26TX reciever. I spent about 30 minutes or so getting it adjusted so it sounded good for both music and movies. After getting it adjusted the bass level was set about mid way or so.
I have played around with this sub the whole weekend, and indeed this has got to be if not one of the best subs I have ever heard! I can hear all beats of the bass in my music and in movies it makes the whole sound stage sound much, much more complete and it sort of makes the sound of the whole system just come more at you. I did not realize the effect a good sub would have on how your other speakers sound until I got this sub in my setup.
Basically the sub is a 10' front fire sub, its power rating is 100watts rms and it has the option to use the crossover built in or to just have it direct from the reciever. I have this setting for direct so that I can set my reciever's crossover for 80hz and have it directly go to the sub at that level. Out of 5 stars I have to give this sub a full 5. They also make a 12 in this same speaker that is 120watts and its a hundred or so more dollars. For the size of my room the 10 more than fills its purpose.

Strength:

Great sounding BASS for the money!! Great for Home theatre.

Weakness:

Could be better with Regular music, but its still very good

Let me tell you that for $500 which included the 5 year extended warranty.. The regular price for this speaker is $429 at circuitcity. This speaker absolutley rocks. I tried it with independence day and the Fifth Element and let me tell you that with the volume only turned up to about 3 I was shake, rattleing and rolling. I have a small room, but this sub can be used in a medium to large room as well.. If your looking for an awesome sub for under $500 this is the one to get.. I used to have a Boston Acoustics Sub and that only lasted a year and I bought a jbl which blew up after a week and a yamaha that had so little bass and finally this velodyne which is godlike that I fell in love with.. Do yourselves a favor and go buy this.

Strength:

Musical, Powefull, Deep Bass

Weakness:

For the price none.

I traded in my Polk PSW-50 8inch sub for the Velodyne CT-100 and the difference is like night and day. Deep rich bass and yet very musical. I have a pair of Avance Epsilon 910 book shelf speakers and they match well. It took a little tweaking to get to this point finnaly decided on the crossover setting being set to 70hz and the volume at 3 to 4. I also dont channel the mini's thru the sub. The bookshelf speakers are connected directly to the amp by speaker wire. The sub is connected to the amps pre out amp via interconnect. I was told this is the way to go one less crossover in the signal path.
For the money there is no competiton period!

Strength:

Lack of "Boominess" - tight bass. Fits home theater audio as well as being very musical.

Weakness:

The construction is somewhat plain. However, functional.

After listening to this subwoofer for just a few hours, I found what I had been missing in my audio experience. This sub maked the perfect complement to my Paradigm Titans - both for music as well as for movies. Setup was very easy and I was up and running in no time. For the price - Circuit City and one block from my home, I could not pass up the opportunity in trying these out. I've also read all of the reviews on this web site and I have to agree with most of them that this is definately the sub to go with! I was afraid that adding a sub would add boominess to my listening material - but I was proved wrong. I could have spent 2x more on a sub, but found that this product more than fits my environment and my tastes in music (Jazz) and movies. The only thing that would have made this perfect would have been a glossy finish! Great job Velodyne!

Strength:

Excellent precise lows without boomyness, great for music or movies

Weakness:

Would like to see better binding posts

I was looking to update my current old sub, jbl psw-1000. There was nothing wrong with the unit itself other than some battle scars from moving, kids, ect. My main interest is listening to music so movie sound effects were not important to me.
Of the other subs I listened to, the velodyne just seemed to do things better. The bass was tight and precise without the boomyness of some other subs. When I matched it with my kef q-15's the match was made in heaven. I used speaker leads from the receiver to use the sub's crossover. I have the crossover set at 80 dbs which seems to be right for most music I listen to. I was able to getthis sub at a very good price however the performance is what sold me. This sub might not back the nails out of your house, but it will deliver that clean tight low end most of us are looking for.
