Strength:

BASS! And all the bass one could ever want for a bedroom! My room is 14 x 14 x 17

Weakness:

Packaging is Godawful.

I bought home my first one from Circuit City, I found out the corner was shattered cause the the styrofoam on one corner was broken off. And of course the sub was damaged internally as well. So I took it back, and I exchanged it for a good one, making sure there were no dented corners (which is a sign that it has been dropped on the unpadded side, which probably also means it's damaged internally.) Why couldn't they spend about $5 more to execellently package this sub? I'd gladly pay $5 more.

Well, after everything was working, this bass sure delivered. Basically it won't bottom out if you turn it up too high. And it has enough power to make your bedroom sound like there's a rave going on inside. It has been excellent for music and movies. For the price and performance, you can't really do too much better than this sub.

Strength:

Excellent with music. Tight bass, nice integration with the rest of my system.

Weakness:

None. Does take time to position and adjust just right. Velodyne's customer service leaves something to be desired.

First off, I have to say thank you. I found this site to be extremely helpful in deciding which model to buy.
I went to Circuit City the day after Christmas just to do some research and listening, but the manager offered me the CT-100 floor model for 249 bucks. Figured I couldn't go wrong. Still, I wish I had a manual, and so far I haven't gotten Velodyne to send me one.
This is my first subwoofer. The best FAQ I found for set-up was at Audio Advisor, attached to one of their subwoofer listings. It made a good point - often ideal placement for HT (near wall/corner) is different than for music (sometimes better out from room boundaries). This helped tremendously. (And it may be the cause of some of the dissenting reviews on this page.) They also suggested which instruments covered the mid-bass range and were good guides for adjusting the crossover.
Take the time to position this well and adjust it just so. (It can be a tedious process.) Also, using interconnects over the speaker cable connectors is the way to go. After breaking in two sets of 2 meter MIT2s for a couple of weeks, I have started doing some critical listening. Wow! I can't imagine listening without it.

Strength:

Value/Price, Like The Controls/Connections on back, very solid construction.

Weakness:

None to date!

Recently discovered E-bay! Purchased GTP 555II Pre-Amp, Adcom GSP 560 Dolby Surround, 2 Adcom GFA 535II ampliphiers all in immaculate condition!

Running Cerwin Vega PD-15's on the Front (4ohm), Cerwin Vega HT-CTR on the Center (4ohm), and Cerwin Vega Bookshelf LS 6" woofers on rears (6ohm). Previously burnt up a HK AVR 25II unit running low ohm speakers hense went to seperate amps. While the equipment I have is not the highest end and I really want to go to Dolby Digital was on a budget and did not want to replace speakers. Kept bidding on subwoofers (Mainly Cerwin Vega) on ebay but all the bids ended up being the same as you could purchase them online for. The Cerwin Vega LW-10 100 Watt was running $200 + Shipping online. Considered ordering one but was looking at many other brands. Dropped in Circut City and heard the Velodyne CT-10. In the sound room it sounded incredible and the salesman said he loved their subs. We went back out and there was one sitting on the shelf marked down to $229.00 I was sold, cash and carry vs more waiting on ebay and shipping...

Got it home and connected it up, abslolutly awesome! excellent tight base, good power, no vibrations or unwanted noise from the solidly built cabinet. Gladiator, Charlies Angels, U571, Matrix, Judge Dred... I can't seem to get away from the entertainment center! Since I haven't heard other subs with my system but have heard others in the sound rooms I would give this amp a perfect 10 and above expectations for my $200 dollars worth! Neighbors haven't complained yet, but they have a sub too so I doubt they will!

Strength:

price/performance, crisp bass

Weakness:

none

The Velo CT100 was much more impressive than all but the MK subs I listened to includung it's bigger, boomier brother the CT120. As it is, I have the volume set to just under or around 4 out of 10 and that is enough to "feel" the bass instead of "hearing" it. Very seemless in transition from my Phase Tech speakers. Listening to Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra (2001 music) will really give you a sense of sub quality as it has some very low lows. The Polk 140, Klipsch 10, CV 12, and the Infinities didn't even budge. Not sure what hz. that track drops to but it is in the 20's. Or lower?

Worked equally well for classical and rock. For around 400 US I am very impressed.

I have to rate it a 5 overall against other subs in it's same class.

Strength:

Powerfull bass, very musical,low freq.response.

Weakness:

none so far

This SUB just rocks top too bottom! I've had it for apx. 4 mos.& it has handled everything I could throw at it. It is sound, musically, & puts the compitition to shame in H.T.situations.This SUB. goes down to 30HZ. & you can really feel it.
In my situation I needed a front firing SUB. I listened to many of them & none matched the build or sound quality of the CT 100! The power that is offered by VELODYNE is not matched by any of the competitors in this class.
I would recomend this to any of my friends or anyone else looking to buy an affordable quality SUB.

Strength:

Plethora of useful features and controls on the sub. This sub has tons of useable features such as a phase switch, tuneable/selectable crossover, internal crossover bypass, etc. PERFECT, cost-effective bass solution to Magneplanar MMG speakers!!!

Weakness:

None really for this price point. The MDF finish is cool, but a glossy lacquered finish would have been nicer.

Without being too wordy, this is probably one of the best, if not THE best sub for the money. It does not sound 'boomy' when properly placed, and the range of user controls allows one to custom tailor the amount and kind of bass response to suit your fancy. It is powerful, and gracefully reproduces bass frequencies with speed and accuracy, from what I can tell. You will appreciate it's quickness if you are using quick transient main speakers. It also has this neat phase switch which allows you to switch signal up to 180 degrees out of phase, but I couldn't really tell a difference with it on in 180 degree mode, or with it off (I suppose this matters in some installations). So I am keeping it off. I would be interested to hear from others via e-mail as to what position they have theirs switched onto, and if they can hear a difference between 180 degrees on and off. All in all, I give this sub 5 stars because Velodyne has managed to put out a product that reeks of quality and greatness for a fraction of what the really expensive subs go for!

My equipment as follows:

Magnepan MMG's
Velodyne CT100
Classic Pioneer SX-780 receiver
Nakamichi CDC-200 CDP
Monster Cable Interlink 400MKII cables all around
DH Labs T-14 speaker cable with bananas and tinned ends

I must have auditioned about 10 different subs at length, and my conclusion is that the CT100 is the best sounding for about $420, which is what I paid at Circuit City.

Strength:

Strong bass, no distortion, power

Weakness:

weight, not very good with music

This sub is excellent for movies, it really shakes the room. For music, I have to increase the gain a couple of dbs, and the bass don't seem as tight as my fosgate car sub. I tested a yamaha sub in a friend's house, and geez, that stink. The velo is 10 times better, deeper an louder than the yamaha, wich distorted in the end of the lfe test signal in the terminator 2 dvd.

Strength:

Quality and Quantity of bass. The Best sub for the price!

Weakness:

Plain looks

Ive been obsessed with finding a great subwoofer for a good price as I have spent $$$ upgrading my home theater. My old sub was the weak link so I read audio video magazines, reviews and articles on the internet so I could learn as much as I could about good subs. I really liked the JBL PB 12 but when I found a used CT 100 for $200 I could not resist. I used Tributaries subwoofer cable and after placing it in the corner of my room.... WOW!!! I found this sub to produce deep bass that was more dynamic than other subs. I was lucky to find a great deal but I would buy it at retail price as it is the best I have heard for under $500.

Strength:

tight bass, nice range of crossover freq, can use internal or external crossover, cannot tell where bass is coming from (ie: omnidirectional)

Weakness:

no binding posts for speaker level inputs, no high gloss finish

This sub is simply no comparison to the JBL sub that I owned in the past. This one outclasses it by far. The bass is nice and tight and definitey not boomy at all and blends in very well with my setup. Both music and home theatre sound very good.

It came down to 2 choices for subs: polk psw 350 and velodyne ct 100. I listened for a long time and decided that spending 100 bucks more for the ct-100 was worth it. The polk sub is good too but you can pick out where the bass was coming from and it didn't go down as low as the velodyne and lacked that extra low end punch. The polk psw 350 also made a slight humming noise when no signal was input. Very annoying.

Buy this sub, you won't be dissapointed.
