Strength:
Cheap....but for good reason....
Weakness:
Reliability, among others... I have had this sub since July '99 and have been fairly happy with it (I'm no audiophile). Unfortunately it blew up tonight. I originally bought it because of the relatively low price and because of the Infinity name. But after my experience and what many others have written here, all I can say is that if you buy this unit, you are not doing yourself any favors. Look elsewhere. I will be. Strength:
Great sound.
Weakness:
A little muddy and boomy when volume is set too high. Am I the only person in the world who has this sub and has not had any problems with it! Sheesh! I've had this subwoofer since February and I haven't had any problems with humming, radio frequency pickups, or freak explosions like some of you have had. I can't find any problems with it other than the boomy, muddy sound it produces when the volume is set too high. It's a great sub, if you can find one that works, like me!!! Strength:
when it worked it sounded prettty good for the price.
Weakness:
mine blew up too. I was feeling all smug about my infinity sub, until this afternoon, when the amp popped, and then made a rhythmic popping noise, and the air filled with smoke. |

Strength:
good price
Weakness:
muddy bass, annoying hum, amp blew Seemed like a good deal initially but amp blew one week after warranty expired. Infinity agreed to repair but there is only one authorized repair center in the entire state. Repair lasted less than a month and Infinity refused to honor the warranty again. Replacement part costs more than the original cost of the entire sub. I've purchased my last Infinity product. Others may cost more but are well worth it. Infinity will only back their electronics for one year for a reason. Klipsch guaranties their electronics for five years. Similar Products Used: passive sub |

Strength:
Good bass and timbre match with my Infinity Studio Monitor series speakers
Weakness:
Capacitor blows up inside My capacitor blew at about 15 months. It was fairly easy to replace. I'm still going to call Infinity and gripe about their product quality. I feel entitled since I have a room full of Studio Monitor speakers. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Good power for the price. Good complement to my RS-6 speakers.
Weakness:
Lousy engineering, poor quality in their parts Got the BU-120 for a fair price, and as was mentioned so many times, this puppy failed about 15 months after purchasing. After doing a litttle exploratory surgery I discovered what so many others found: The lousy .99 capacitor failed...it was blown and distorted. |

Pretty good sound.
Weakness:
Reliability Like many other recent posters, my BU-120 just popped. And it wasn't even while watching anything that would tax the speaker. All of a sudden, I heard a loud "POP" and the smell of electronics' smoke permeated the air. There was a bit of visible smoke coming from the rear baffles. The reviews of this speaker at the time of purchase (December 1999) were all glowing. It seems that many of the 12-18 month old units are failing all at once. I suppose that at $175, you are getting what you paid for. Mercata.com is gone, so no recourse there. I'll see if the Capacitor, reported in several reviews below, is the cause of the failure and replace it. Regardless, I'll be calling on Infiniti Customer Service - In fact, anyone considering purchasing this or any other Infiniti Subwoofer should do some homework and ask Customer Service (800-553-3332) if they have heard of these problems being reported. Strength:
good sound, low price, Infinity name
Weakness:
hummmmmm, lack of on off switch, ported, one note bass efect several persons here have refferd to the practice of plugging this sub into a switched outlet on your amp or receiver, in order to overcome it's lack or an on/off switch. Similar Products Used: none, passive sub only before |
