Strength:

Excellent Value, sounds great

Weakness:

Finding a good repair center

Great product although it did break after 6 months. That's not my complaint, though. Lakewood TV & Stereo, an authorized Infinity repair center located in lakewood NJ is absolutely terrible. Ship your product out of state before bringing it there.

Weakness:

Loud Hum

The sound was good. However the humming noise
was just unacceptable. I do want to use my living
room other than for music or movies !!

I've returned it back and I am thinking of getting a Paradigm 10".

Strength:

Light weight crap thats inexpensive to ship to be repaired

Weakness:

amp,build quility, service, reliability, sound

I had originally purchased an RS-12 model(front firing 12 w/ a servo controlled 250 watt amp) The amp went out the first time around 11 months and was fixed under warrenty (minus shipping of coures). Another year latter I had the same problem and that too was fixed under warrenty. The third time the amp blew, I blew. I called Infinity and was told about a design problem with the amp.Infinity sent me a BUT-12 as a replacement at no cost (accept shipping the old one back) Well here I am again looking for a new sub because my free replacement just went south. Never again will I ever consider a Harmon International product.

Strength:

fairly decent sounding

Weakness:

amp section

it's humming and popping already

>>>>> news flash..... jbl seems to have similar problems with some of thier subs

let's all quit buying harmon international products until they do something to help consumers with these things.

it seems to me any product from harmon should be boycotted
until they see fit to help the enthusiasts that have purchased these products.

i went to best buy today to purchase a yamaha sub and was promptly greeted by a young salesman that was all to happy to try steering me to a jbl sub. what gives?

let's face it, this is a market driven by wanting not needing... i no longer want harman products.

please think hard before you buy any powered speaker from harman international. thanks........enjoy

Weakness:

The system has blown twice on me, there won't be a third.

My BU-120 has blown again, it scared the hell out of the kids, the dogs were barking, and forget about letting the baby sleep longer. My wife called me at work, and all I could hear was this rumble, I just yelled in the phone, "...pull the plug...."

I wrote another Email to Infinity, that makes 5 or 6 times already, and now it has come to this, Infinity or any Harmen Karmen product are no longer in my vocabulary and I will send all my friends or whomever, to any other product line or company.

For me, I'm going to see what Velodyne has to offer.

Well just got the sub in today and played around with it for a while. I found that it sounds great if you do a good job mixing it in with the main speakers. I turned the crossover to the lowest setting because my mains go fairly deap. After turning the volume to a setting that matched my mains music sounded great. My main complaint is when switching between dvd movies and cd's I always have to reposition the volume on the sub. I listened to the klipsch 12" sub and it did have better sound but would have cost me an extra $225. One word of warning you DO NOT want to use the sub with the crossover turned up very high because it will muddy up your middrange. Oh, I cant hear any of the hum people are talking about. My guess is that their subs are picking up feadback from something, maybee their receivers. Great deal from Mercata for $200

Strength:

Great Bass, cheap price (Mercata $140)and powerful

Weakness:

Low hum, no off switch.

This subwoofer is awesome and the deal was made sweeter since it was only $140 from Mercata (with Mercata bucks included). I hooked it up to my Yamaha V495 and also to a Pioneer Elite VSX-21 and the bass was beautiful. When testing out movies like Saving Private Ryan, The Matrix and Goldeneye SE the bass definitely added a better punch to scenes like the Lobby shootout scene in the Matrix, Omaha Beach landing in SPR and the beginning shootout in the gas factory in Goldeneye. It definitely destroys the little KLH sub I used to have. Over the last few weeks however the bass started to emit more of a rattling shaky bass vs the regular smooth thump it used to make. Unfortunately I turned it on yesterday to test my home theatre setup and there was no power at all. It died after only two months. Besides the hum and the inability to turn it off it's an excellent investment for a sub. Thank Buddha for their warranty.

Strength:

Can purchase this subwoofer over the internet at a reasonable price.

Weakness:

Low level hum. No auto on/off. Muddy sound.

Have had this sub for 5 1/2 months. For DVD,s it performs very good. However, for listening to music it sounds muddy. It does not have the wallop sound you would like to come from a woofer. I've tried to tighten up the bass by packing cloth into the rear ports but that required me to increase the volume to almost max level and the sound was still muddled. I will keep it until I find something better.

Strength:

Awesome bass, excellent lows

Weakness:

Slight hum noticible at lower volumes

Breath of fresh air compared to the old Radio Shack mis-purchase. Plenty of bass kicks a helluva lot better and makes my movie-watching habit all the more intense. Paid $150 shipped through Mercata.com with a PowerBuy and $50 off. Now if I could get a nice PowerBuy with a good Infinity center channel...

Infinity + $199 price tag + 35hz bass = BUY IT

Weakness:

mmmm, Always will want bigger model!

Just finished placing this sub in my room. I found the sweet spot about 2 feet from a corner and about 1/2 foot from the wall. I am very pleased with this sub. The variable Xover lets u match your satellites perfectly. I must say, my satellites (currently Advent baby II's... I just ordered a pair of SM165's to replace them!) actually sound clearer with more presence going thru the sub's circuitry. I'm comparing this with my late sub, a cheap advent model. In all, the value, power, and sound quality are tough to beat.
PS - I did tons of research and listening tests in the stores. I know it is not the best place to judge speakers, but the BU120 was just a clear winner in its price range!
I purchased it from Netmarket for 199
