Strength:

price

Weakness:

hum

Sound very good for music and movies, I pluged it into my receivers switched outlet to stop it from makeing the noice, then again I can't imagine how a company with the reputation of infinity will continue producing a device with such a defect for all this time. Situations like this make you think twice before buying a new infinity product again. I am giving it 3* due to what I think is an irresponability of the company.

Strength:

Great sound, deep bass

Weakness:

8 months in use, the amp failed. Had the unit repaired at a repair center. A capacitor was replaced, but the unit still does not output audio from reciever on rca in.

Everything was great until my failure. Two weeks in the shop , with unit still not working after repair. From that standpoint, the repair was a waste of my time. The mfg. is currently in the process of replacing with new unit.

Strength:

Fair quality for the price

Weakness:

Bad internal amp!

I thought this sub was great at first for my office system. I use a Velodyne at home but didn't want to put out that kind of money for a low use / low volume environment like my office. Well, after almost 1 year, the internal amp fried! The volume on this thing has never been past 1/5 and it has never seen heavy duty action. The service center said that the amp on these things go out quite often and getting replacement parts can take up to 6 months!

DO NOT BUY!

Strength:

In movie Mode this unit performs admirably. No need to Crank Reveiver sub outs, as it performs very well for the price

Weakness:

The HUM. usually when I am not using the SUB, I unplug it from the wall, as the HUM is very annoying. I am assuming that the Digital AMP is causing it. i vo NOT used the switched outlet of my receiver as I never felt this was a good idea.

For the price, this is an excellant Subwoofer, I purchased mine from "Video Only" in Beaverton, OR for 128.00. If it didn't constantly hum, I would feel much more comfortable

Poor output and just a general piece of junk.

Well this is the worst sub,in its price range,on the market.
I got it from crutchfield and a week later it blew out. I had no trouble returning it thanks to crutchfield's excellent serivce. While I had it,it did not perform well at all. The bass was weak and sounded muddy at high volumes. I did not like it at all and whould have sent it back anyway. It's replacement, the AR S112,totally destroyed it in every respect and it is the same price! I chose to try an infinity just because of my prior exsperince with them, but the should be boycotted for releaseing a product this bad.

Strength:

Kicks out solid base

Weakness:

None for the money (I got the BU80 at $149 out of package)

I did some pretty extensive reading and talked to a few people with experience using powered subwoofers, and I found that this unit sounded better to me in the demo room than many much more expensive units. If your planning on using this unit to completely dominate your listening with bass, then it's probably not what your looking for. If you have a set of decent speakers but just don't get the total punch out of em on the lower end, then this unit seems great to me in my limited experience. I haven't even tried it on my own stereo yet, but I have it hooked up to my girl friend's low end system right now, and it' kickin some ass. If you have a low end system and are considering taking the leap to an expensive system over a couple of thousand dollars, I would recommend giving a subwoofer a chance to save you a few bucks. Of course if your system is lacking some new technology or feature you simply must have, then make sure your sales person throws a subwoofer into the mix of your new system. Since I bought this sub basically to annoy my neighbors, I was thinking I would need more than 75 watts, but low and behold we found the BU80 shook the room much better than considerable higher priced units from Polk Audio and some other manufacturers. I love my neighbors music as it booms through my walls,, I'm hoping they will enjoy mine just as well, because I'm sure with this unit they will hear, and possibly even feel it. My girl and I both agree, the sound quality and annoyance potential were the best with this seemingly under powered unit. In reading that many people have complained of a hum, and muddy sound, I wonder if they are possibly trying to listen to base only, I had mine cranked to the level where bass had exceeded excessive, and I noted very little if any audible distortion and zero hum. Perhaps I will be eating my words sometime within the next year, but my past experience with Infinity going back 20 years, was that they are top of the line. They fall in the relm of the top 5 companies I am aware of in the audio speaker industry.

Strength:

nice cabinet

Weakness:

The bass was not echo as it gathered a corner inside of my house.

I bought Sub BU-120 from UBID.com $187.00
plus shipping on NOV/1999. Also, I currently have:

-Bose acousticmass 5 seriesII ( sounded OK )
-Bose 301 Sonata ( worse )
-JBL bookshelf J2060 ( better than Bose 301 )
-Wharfedale Sapphire 89 tower speaker ( nice )
-Wharfedale Sapphire center ( good )
-Wharfedale Sapphire 83 rear ( good )
-Klipsch bookshelf KSB 3.1 ( nice )
-Klipsch KMC center ( really good )

After I hooked BU-120 up to my speakers and listened
it. I was recognized that my mistake to purchase this
SUB BU-120. Because I have 4 receivers at home and BU-120
which was not satisfied for my taste and my receivers.
Because it was too HUM and the BASS gathered a corner
inside of my house.

I am looking for SUB Klipsch KSW 12 or SUB Velodyne
CT 120 to replace my BU 120 coming soon. Also, I will
buy Klipsch KLF 20 for my main speaker. But I still love
and keep Wharfedale Sapphire.

I give BU 120 only 2 Stars, because bad sound
and NO power ON/OFF.

I am a person that English as second language.
Therefore, I can not comment more...I have lived in
south of Atlanta, but I wrote this in Boston. Thanks

Hugh Lam

Sounds great

I don't know what all the complaints are coming from. After sticking wool socks into each tube it sounds GREAT. For the price (under $200) you can't beat this. Problems with humming or the amp's blowing up? I got no clue. The only problem I had was using UPS because they messed up a leg, but that's nothing some glue couldn't fix. Never had a problem, this sub is always on and I've never seen smoke come out of it or even worried about it until I looked at all these reviews. That's insane, this sub is fine. I've had people come over to my house and watch DVD movies and they compliment about the sound even when the sub is hidden. Great deal.

Strength:

Price.

Weakness:

No on/off switch, hums, blows up after warranty expires.

Got this unit to match my other Infinity components that I have been fairly happy with. Initially impressed by the price, but not anymore. The sub hums continuously and there is no on/off switch, which becomes a real problem when the amp decides to blow (unit not in use at the time, just plugged in) and fills your living room with smoke. Don't want to think what would happen if you're not home when this occurs.

Sound wise, the bass is strong but seems kind of muddy to me, in fact, I noticed that I like the sound of my system better now that the sub's away at the service center, so make what you will.

Strength:

Loud, nice looking box.

Weakness:

Booooming base, no on/off switch. Humming noise

Read the reviews on the site the day I got the woofer. I was not impressed to say the least. I was luckily a week later to get the Klipsh 10" which is supposed to come with the Quintet speakers I have.

The BU120 is way to boomy and has muddy bass. It was acutally starting to get quite annoying and was glad to be rid of it. But it side by side against a better sub and you'll realize how bad it is.
