Strength:

Loud

Weakness:

Boomy, would probably sound tighter and smoother if it were sealed rather than ported.

A guy brought this sub into the Hifi store I work at because it made a humming noise, and bought a different Sub and gave it to me. When I hooked it up at home it made a LOUD thumping noise. There was somthing rattling inside so I pulled the amp and found the casing from a 10um50v capacitor that apparently had exploded. So I bought a package of 10 for $.99 and soldered it in. Now the thing works good, no humming smoking or otherwise except boomy bass.

List price seems high, but it seems like most people got it for far cheaper.

Strength:

Awesome bass dominator, fills my large living room with distictive authoritive bass

Weakness:

Slight, weak hum when there is a blank signal.

I bought my Infinity BU-120 sub about 10 months ago from Crutchfield for around $300. To say the least, it has been everything a sub could ever be!! My wife was a hard sell on the unit, until I popped in "Independance Day" on DVD and she litterally threw a bowl of pop corn up into the air when my THX receiver commanded the BU-120 to do its job!! The whole living room vibrated with rumbling bass that we could feel through the entire house! She was very impressed (as well as I) about the subs performance. She even thanked me for purchasing it. Of course, I have it connected to a Panamax 1000+ AC line conditioner with start up/shut down sequence (for the sub) and THX Monster cable interconnects - which was a very wise investment. This in essence, will undoubtedly extend the life of ANY sub on the market. If you want a great sub, don't hesitate, but buy a line conditioner and THX cable available at Crutchfield P.S. I did stuff a wool sock into the top port-Much better!!

Strength:

Good sounds.. boomy but not TOO boomy for me

Weakness:

none (so far)*fingers crossed*

Combined with Angstrom Omega28 fronts, Angstrom Omega5 back speakers, and I'm a VERY happy camper.
No hum, was picking up a radio signal off the CN Tower (extremely close) but their signal is immensely strong. No radio signal after a few days.
Moved it into a corner and the room has cathedral ceilings so the sound rounds out nicely and maybe that's what solved the radio signal problem.
No smoke yet. Solved the NO POWER switch problem by plugging into the back of the receiver into a powered outlet.
Sorry guys but I've got no complaints about this one! I know, I know, some of you are saying "just wait". Until then, happy sounds!

Strength:

passive signal pass through, ability to combine left and right sub audio, gain and volume

Weakness:

UNIT Never turns off unless unplugged. very slight hum no longer noticed.

I listened to many subs on the market prior to purchasing this one, and also used audio review for basing my purchase. I am very confident that bang for buck this Sub can not be beaten. I have been very happy with the performance, and strength of the sub. I do not hear any boominess, as I keep gain all the way down, i set the volume to 50%, and used JVC 888 AV receiver to regulate the output of the sub.

Strength:

power and appearence for the price

Weakness:

Hum, amplifier failure

about 15 months after purchase the amp blew causung LOUD gun shot noises at rapid intervals, took unit apart and notice a 10uf/50v capacitor had blown, shape changed and burn marks on board, cap cost 99 cents at Radio Shack and takes about 15 minutes to replace if you remove transformer, i have read that replacing the two 4700uf/50v caps will eliminate the hum, but Radio Shack did not have the correct voltage rating, i will post results when i replace them, overall i would say it is about what i expected for the price, but beware of known problems

Strength:

Great power, good sound, pretty clear

Weakness:

there are NONE, except maybe that it can't turn off, i plugged it into my receiver, then it's all right

It's a great sub. I've read some of the other reviews and I don't know what the folks are talking about (i just jinxed myself). Mine is fine, produces powerful sound that is rich and full. Not only can I see the movie, now I can "feel" the movie. The only weakness is the fact that the sub does not have an on/off switch...but that's really no big deal if you connect it to power switching receiver. For it's price it's awesome. Go get it!!
