I thought it sounded exceptional in Circuit City, although there were some loose items hanging on the shelves there that were shaking. I thought it was distortion at first, but no, it was just the sheer power of the subwoofer. It was niiiice. I did experience a slight headache after about 15 minutes of listening to it, but that's OK.

I bought the BU120 from OneCall and was very happy with both the service and the product. The Infinity sub series is the best speaker for the money. If I had the money, I would buy Velodyne or Klipsch - however you will be surprised how good the BU120 does its job. At this price, we give 5 stars.

Strength:

It was cheap that the time. It will suffice until I can buy a Velodyne.

Weakness:

Cheap amplifier.

Amp blew after 2 yrs but the repair is a simples as replacing the 10uF 50V capacitor that bridges the speaker terminals. The old cap melted and blew up in a poof of smoke.

Strength:

Strong sound, works good with DVDs and Home Theater

Weakness:

Sound is somewhat mono with music, Electronics blew after 15 months, $227 repair on a $299 piece don't think so

Electronics blew after 15 months after casual use, i.e., used once or twice a week for movies and about the same for music, system was never maxed, costed almost as much as the the sub itself. I don't think I will buy Infinity again.

Weakness:

blew at 18 months

After mine started the staccato, and the repair estimate was $215, I did a search and found this site. Too many people having the same problem. Tried the 10uf 50v capacitor. It's dead, now. I bought Infinity because of their reputation. The sound wasn't very sharp, I don't think, when it did work. For the money, and the name, I expect much better, and a longer lifespan, to be sure. I bought Infinity for their reputation. Now, I'll stay away, same reason!

Weakness:

cheap, expensive for what it is, crappy parts

Just like the previous two posts my sub blew after about 2 years. Unlike the two however I just took my sub to the desert and shot it up with my guns. Got a brand new Klipsch on the way.

Oh yeah, don't buy this! Didn't sound good when it worked anyways.

Follow Up:
Like Ray below I found that replacing the 10uf/50v capacitor ($0.99 at Radio Shack) fixed the machine gun noises. I keep the sub unplugged now except when using it and would definitely advise against anyone purchasing it. I did not use it excessively to 'cause it to blow and it was not even in use when it blew. So, to those who think you're safe, don't count on it!

Weakness:

Possible that my unit will blow a CAP like everyone else!

This review is a bit pre-mature. I am waiting delivery for my unit from U-Bid. It seems the amp is the weak link to an otherwise quality product. Has anyone ever considered replacing the amp with a 150 watt unit from partsexpress.com. The screw pattern, size (10 1/16w x 9h x 5") and horizontal layout of the amp seem similar to the one that is for sale at partsexpress. The partsexpress amp is selling for $159.90 part # 300-800.

Strength:

good sound/decent construction for the money

Weakness:

amp blew, no power off (ended up hooking to a power conditioner)

i decided to read recent reviews in this forum, regarding the bu-120, to see if others had a similar problem with the amp blowing. and look, there are more than just a few. up until two weeks ago, the subwoofer sounded fine. not great, but good for the money. unfortunately haven't heard back on the repair cost yet, it is beyond warranty, although by only several months. i had the same loud, machine gun rapports coming from the sub at 2 in the morning. once fixed, will keep for a while so i can purchase a rotel rmb-1095 amp, before replacing the sub.
