No offense people but why dont you just plug the cord into one of the power plug outlets on your receiver, when you turn off your receiver you will turn off your sub. Havent received mine yet so I just put my ratings in the middle, pay them no attention.

Strength:

Low Price, lots of moderately controlled bass

Weakness:

Not good for music, very boomy

At the $299 I paid for this 2 months ago I didn't consider it a good value. At the $150 price it has been going for lately it certainly is a decent value. Mine had absolutely no hum but was way too boomy for music regardless of where I located it or how I set the controls on the subwoofer or my reciever. IF $150 is you budget, this will add a lot of enjoyment to your home theater. If $399 is your budget, go with the Klipsch KSW-12 which has just as much bass but a much tighter contolled and more musical sound.

Strength:

Extremely cheap, awesome sound, deep

I have used many subs in my room and this one outdoes all of them by far for the price. I spent 143 for mine that was shipped and everything. It outdoes similar models I tried made by sony, aiwa, and polk audio. It sounded horrible when I had it sitting next to my entertainment center buy upon moving it into a corner it improved sound over 500%. I cannot recommend anything else for this price, you cant even get an 8" sub for this, let alone a great and powerful 12" sub. This is somewhat weak in some musical aspects but as far as movies it will blow you away. I listen to a lot of rap and for that the sub is great since most of what you want is the low hums and vibrations. Faster music such as heavy metal like korn and limp this sub also sounds great but sometimes has trouble keeping up with the quick bass. Good lord for 143 buy all of these you can. I kiss mine goodnight everytime I go to bed. Ok enough rambling, you get the idea!!!

I also purchased the BU120 from www.netmarket.com I had ordered the BU2, and the 120 came instead. It's replacing the BU2. I LOVE this sub. I have a set of infinity SM122's about 5 yrs old, it sounds great with them. I've got it connected to the Onkyo 454 sub out. This sub kicks A$$. It definitely adds the low end. Turn it up, and the couch shakes! (Not to mention all of the pictures on walls) It is a bit obtrusive, but stick it in the corner behind the main speaker, and it's fine. I give it 5 speakers for sound, price, and warranty!

Greetings. I recently acquired this product from the Haggle Zone on netmarket.com. I haggled a price of $186 and s/h was 22.95. I actually haggled for an Infinity BU-2 subwoofer but when the order arrived a week and a half later, it was a BU-120. I believe this is the model that replaced the BU-2 because there is no mention of the 2 on Infinity's web page. The 2 has a 120 watt amp where the 120 has a 150 watt amp (don't ask me why they didn't name it the BU-150, maybe because it has a 12 inch speaker?).
As stated above, I am a casual listener, and I'm mostly interested in a home theater type setup. My room isn't very large and finding space for placement is not the easiest thing for me, but I was able to place it in several locations in search of the best spot. It's black cabinet, while not beautiful, is not that bad looking either.

How does it sound, you may ask? I have not received my dvd player yet so all I have tried with it is Dolby Pro-logic and 2 channel stereo. It definitely adds a fullness to the sound that wasn't present before. I tried it in 3 different locations before finding what I think is the best sounding place for it. Can't wait to try the Dolby Digital stuff but it definitey enhances my home theater experience using pro-logic. I'm not really into shaking MY walls, but this thing will do it, if that is what you want.... I probably don't have the volume turned up more than an eighth of the way for my normal listening level.

I like it. It is no where near top of the line but for a little over $200, it'll do!

Check it out.

Weakness:

bottoms out easily (muddy)

I have had my bu-120 for almost 2 years now. I don't use it as much as I would like, but have had no problems with it. I experience a slight hum, but have gotten used to it. I plugged mine into it's own surge protector and I click off the power when not in use. May be that's why it hasn't blown yet (hehe). I kind of feel the internet purchased bu-120's must be "b" stock, because they seem to be the ones blowing so much. Mine has been a jewel and I highly recommend it. As far as power, my neighbor that I bought this from just bought a top of the line 15" velodyne and that sucker is so powerful that I couldn't stand it. Way, way too loud. I like the quality not the loud. His bass dominates his system too much, sounds way out of balance. When I have the volume on mine too loud it becomes muddy. At normal listening levels it's awesome. Just ask my cat, she leaps 4 feet in the air when it goes off, heehee.

Strength:

Cheap.

Weakness:

Boomy

I've had my BU120 for about a year. It blew up a couple of days back just two days shy of warranty expiration. It started making a LOUD sound like a foghorn. After reading reviews here I decided to repair it myself since the warranty was about to expire anyway. On opening it I found the Power supply smoothing capacitors had gone (4700uf 50V).Replaced them and all is well. Many of you who have complained of hum could probably try replacing these caps as if they are defective would produce hum. (I'm an EE).

I've had absolutely no hum on my sub till it blew up. I wasn't quite happy with its sound though, a bit too boomy till I opened it up and put in some filling. Its now much less boomy and the sound though not great is listenable.

Strength:

Bass sounds pretty good.

Weakness:

Poor quality, has a hum!

I had my unit for eleven months before it blew, and luckily it was still under warranty! After being in the repair shop for over a week, I picked up the unit, took it home and hooked up everything. And guest what no HUM, but after playing the unit for over a week the HUM is back. This unit is a piece of junk. I wasted $260.00 bucks. I think the unit is a fire hazard waiting to happen! If you have one use it at your own risk, and if you won’t have one don’t buy it!

Strength:

Low Price, Clean Looks

Weakness:

none yet

I have to give this product high remarks on its great value ($165 shipped through Mercata.com) and its very impressive sound.

I hooked the power up to the AC on the receiver, so I don't notice any humming while the receiver is off. I did try to listen for the hum, and found that I had to stick my ear about 3 inches from one of the ports on the back. Certainly unnoticeable taking into considerations other ambient sounds from your home (HVAC, etc.)

My only complaint so far is that the first time I tried my system out watching Star Wars, the bass shook our cast brass X-Mas stocking hangers off of the mantle, breaking them on the hearth. I wasn't too popular once my wife came home.

I'm no audiophile, but the subwoofer performs well above my initial expectations and is complemented well with my Yamaha 5150, JBL center and surrounds.
Each DVD I've watched so far required some adjustment of the crossover and volume controls (sometimes the bass is a little too overpowering).

I can only give it an overall rating of 4 stars because I have not tested other subs in or above its class...

I auditioned the subwoofer at Circuit City, and I was impressed by the power. It was rattling the walls of the room. However, the speaker seemed to hit some notes poorly. The lack of extension was evident when playing madonna's frozen. The sub bottomed out on several low notes, but overall I was impressed. I was given a nice headache by it and I have had it for the past 45 minutes.
