Strength:

Quality highs
Good bass tones for a 6 1/2 inch woofer
Attractive exterior

Weakness:

Average mids
Some quality is lost at high volumes (especially bass)

I initially wanted the Sony SSMF415 or SSMF500H. But for $80.00, I couldn't pass these up. Let me say, for the price these are very good speakers for DVD front or to use as surrounds for music. For those who like rock, rap, or any other hard bass/loud volume music, do not use these as your front speakers. They may not be able to handle it. Otherwise, this is a great speaker. The port helps to expand the bass from the 6 1/2 inch woofer. But keep in mind that it is only a 6 1/2 inch woofer. You're probably not going to break glass from the vibration. In short, this speaker gets 8 out of 10 when used as a surround. 6 1/2 when used as a front. Overall, for the price I paid, I give it a solid 7 pushing on 8.

Strength:

Verry clear sound and bass for speakers meant for voice only.Infact speakers sound like if they were big speakers.

Weakness:

Well handling power could be a little higher but I have not had any problems of wanting more power.

When I went to buy some speakers for voice I found these sony and since they were the less expensive I went and heard them..Well these speakers sound xcelent for the price, sound is even better than ones double the price, and if the speakers dont sound better they sound a lot more clear than the others. If you dont want to spend a lot of money and want to speakers for Dvd and Music then this is the best buy for clear sound and good bass, Infact I dont see any reason to buy more xpensive ones but if you dont belive me and dont want to buy these ones they buy The sony SS-MF415 wich should cost you 250 each. If you think that Boos Is better and you want top of the line sound in your home then the best speakers you could buy are $_,000 each and they are Sony ES SS-M9ED go here and see them http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/generic/homeaudioes/esloudspeakers/index.shtml

Strength:

TV n' movie dialouge sound great. Nice looking, not so ugly. Dont need speaker stands.

Weakness:

Tinny sounding at times, no bass at all!

Well worth the money. I was hurtin for somthing and had to get these for mains (harsh, I know, but I wanted them NOW). Needs some kick, obviously the next model up would be better for mains. Ill get some thump w' a sub and hope to shape things up a little. But for the money, these sound good playin the TV n' VCR. (I think the little bit of tin sound is a plus for that, helps with dialouge.) But for music. when things get loud, these seem to make all kinda strange noises. If your despate, and broke like me, buy them, you wont be sorry, but if you can hold out for somthing better for mains, I would. I am thinking of trying them as surrounds.

Strength:

These speakers sound great for the $$$$. For pure music they blow away surrounds.

Weakness:

Bass gets distorted at real high volume.... higher than I listen to, but noticed it when crankin' them to see how loud I could go.

I really like these speakers. A friend of mine has Infinity speakers and these are just as good at less than half the price. I recommend them for anyone who is looking for good sound on a budget. The bass is excellent with these... you do not need a seperate sub.

I recently bought these from Best Buy for $159.99/pair and DAMN they sounded good. They had enough bass (especially from a 6 1/2" driver) and great highs. Clear, smooth, quality sound was all I heard! I looked at the SS-MF515s but they were out of my price range...hey! I'm only 13! These speakers work very well with home theater and especially jazz. A subwoofer will make up for lost bass from the 6 1/2" woofer. My advice to you is if you are limited on money or don't want to spend too much on speakers these are a great buy. (I saw a pair of bookshelfs with 8" woofers for $99.98/pr and the 6 1/2" woofer drives out more bass and it has clearer highs..so don't get those bookshelfs)

I've just bought the Sony STR-DE335 receiver and a pair of Sony SS-MF315 speakers. They sound great. Lows, mids, highs ... all in there. I tested out the speakers at Best Buy 3 times before I bought it. It sounds great in my room. A bit too loud though. These floor standing speakers are built for large rooms. But it's all good. I love the sound.
If you are on a budget and want great sound. Get these the Sony SS-MF315. I compared with the floor standing Bose speakers we have. The Sony are probably better.

Sorry for the repost but I just want to "fix" my review. These speakers really suck. These speakers can't even handle 75 watts without "popping". Do NOT get these unless you have a low wattage stereo or receiver.

Strength:

video sheilded, price, high wattage

Weakness:

boooooom . . . booooooom

picked these up at best buy for just 120 bucks a pair. since the price was so low, i really wanted to like these; but, they just didn't work out. i found the bass response very "boomy"--not as tight as i like it.

however, one the plus side, these speakers can hit some very low lows and they will shake your walls if you want them to.

i ended up exchanging them for the mb115s instead. i needed something small and compact, but with tighter bass, and these fit the bill. also cost me half as much.

Weakness:

Power handeling (Please remember, we are talking about a pair of 150 dollar speakers here)

I picked these up recently and was suprised overall by their sound. As to be expected for a 150 dollar set of speakers, at high volumes these guys distort out, but if you listen to your music at moderate or medium levels I believe you would really enjoy these speakers. I can get my Pioneer Reciever about 65% up without distortion, which is fine for me, because they are in a small room. I found the 515's (200W and 2 6"'s, taller than the 315's) online at etronics.com for almost the same price, but I don't want to go through the hassel on returning these. That's always a pain in the butt. If you are looking for overall sound quality and appearence without the normal price tag that comes with these things, get these now. If you can spare the extra dough and want something that you can really make your ears bleed with, go for a set of Boston Acoustics or M & K's. Remember, you get what you pay for, but I believe in this case you may get a little more than expected.
