Strength:

nice treble, sounds good at high volumes

Weakness:

bass not that great

the speakers, for the value, are quite good. i love the the crisp sounding treble and other high pitch sounds and they still sound great at high volumes. the only down fall is that they have poor bass response. you shouldn't set the bass level on your reciever to the max with these speakers, it really starts to mess up at high volumes. but they are quite good, they cost $160 for the pair, but i got a discount and got them for $80. i would only recommend these if you can get them cheap.

Moved to new house with small den, needed something tall and slim to replace my old Bose 901 series III's (wouldn't fit) for my "low end" system (Kenwood receiver, sony 5-disc CD). Saw the 315's at Best Buy for $139. I also checked out the 515's, but they won't fit in my Civic! I echo a lot of what I read in the '515 reviews: unbelievable value! I listen to mainly Jazz and Classical and these will be perfect for that use. If I was into rock I think the '515's would have been a slightly better choice.

Strength:

Clear highs, strong bass for 6.5" woofer and great price.

Weakness:

Mid's a bit muffled.

I was looking for a set of front speakers for a first time HT setup and found these in the Best Buy ad on sale. The 3-Way speakers sound great for their price, and aside from being a little less clear and crisp as some $500+ speakers, they were probably the best I could afford.
For people looking for a high end speaker, come on, you know these aren't the ones. However at the price I paid, you will get a very good sounding set that looks great sitting next to a TV. The wires that come with the speakers are probably not worth using but I managed to grab a good deal on replacement wire as well. If you can get them while they're still on sale and need some great sounding budget speakers jump all over these. But if you've got cash to burn for nothing but the best pass on these since you may not like them.

Strength:

good crisp sound, with a nice kick of bass

Weakness:

noisey when brought up to high levels of volume

i had bought this speaker to use for my main fronts in my home theater i loved the nice crisp sound that came out of them but when i would crank the volume up to about 80% full it would begin to distort sound and make funny noises well i finally figured out why that was and it was because i was pumping close to 100watts power too them and the speakers couldn't handle the power their max is 150watt but that is their max and 75watt is about all they can handle without begining to get sound distortion, BUT i highly recommend these speakers to anyone because they are really good for the price you pay and if you don't throw to much power to them they work GREAT! so i ended up returning them and bought the next level higher which is the SSMF515 and that seemed to make a whole difference in that funny noise because they have a max of 200watt. so in conclusion its a great buy for the money just along as your receiver only outputs 75watts or less to your front main speakers

Strength:

Price versus quality optimum.

Weakness:

Bass unclear at higher volumes, sometimes a bit "muddy" sound when playing heavy metal, which is not caused by the band :)

I'm not professional but for casual listener this is perfect if compared quality to price. I can't hear difference when listening to heavy metal with 300-400 dollar speakers.
However, speakers are connected to 10 year old Pioneer A-447, so "muddy" sound could be cause of that.

Very good speakers, Good all around sound, built well

Weakness:

Falls over easy, made by sony

I was going to use these to replace my main speakers i was using tempararly acoustic 9901(cheap peices of garbage), anywho when i took my first look a the sony's i had to laugh, personly i listen to a lot of rap and techno music, and i did not think the 6 1/2 inch woofer was going to cut it. WOW was i wrong, decent base they hit down harder than the old speakers with 12's!! I am not saying you will not need a sub, but man these hit down allright. go get um

my system:
Pioneer reciver VSX-D409 100X5
Pioneer cd changer PD-F908 101 Disc Changer
Sony Main SS-MF315

Strength:

Crisp sound -decent bass.

Weakness:

do distort at loud volume levels

I had purchased these speakers as mains for a beginner surround sound system. However, I must admit that these speakers sound nice for music of all varieties. A very affordable price - well worth the $!

Strength:

Price

Weakness:

Cheap

Being a stereotype, I'm no music buff.

I found these on discount and just had to have them, truly. The old rubber margins membrane on my old speakers were dry as aged buscuits and the bass was more than gone, really gone. As you understand it was kind of necessary to have new speakers.

Two days after I bought theSonys, I also bought new el cheapo elements to my old speakers. But as expected they came nowhere close to my Sony which excelled in richness from the lows to the highs. All this compared to my renovated old speakers.

I'm very satisfied.
