Strength:

Flat, check out the Audio Ideas website review. www.audioideas.ca. Smooth sound. Great speaker for $200.

Weakness:

Bloated mid-bass at times. Mr. Raymond and his dumb reviews.

How quickly some of us are to judge others by what they like or think. We only have to knock down to make ourselves feel good.

Excellent speakers for beginner audiophiles. Smooth flat sound, read the Audio Ideas review. Excellent tweeter, the CMC tweeter is a well made tweeter for such an inexpensive product. All of Paradigms drivers are made in house, not mass-produced. Take one out and look at the build quality, and then think, "Umm....a $200 speaker with smooth sound great build quality." And you'll know what we mean buy what a great speaker. However, the bass is a little bloated at the 80-100Hz range however I am not going to expect a $200 speaker to be prefect. Or a little bookshelf to handle tons of power. I believe this speaker can challege a lot in higher price ranges. A GOOD BUY!

If you blew these you need to have your hearing checked. cause you probably had it too loud anyhow.

Again, all this for $200???

Strength:

Incredible accuracy. These speakers are very detailed with clear highs and accurate mids. Bass is decent for such a small enclosure. Very tight sounding.

Weakness:

None. Could use a subwoofer for some ambient bass, but this is certainly not necessary.

Excellent value. These can easily handle 200 watts or more without distortion at high volumes. I play them loud with 100watts per channel and they never wimper. Very durable.

Strength:

Price ($200 CAN), performance for its size

Weakness:

None at this price

After listening to a pair of Atoms at a friends, I decided that the Titans (v2) would be better suited for my low-budget HT. They sound better after being broken-in. Good highs, and more bass than I expected from speakers at this price. Paired with the Paradigm CC-170 centre, and the PSB Subsonic-5, I couldn't be happier with the setup and the amount I paid for the HT!

Strength:

Neutral Sound w good bass extension.

Weakness:

slightly forward midrange (@ 3khz) restricts depth slightly

Firstly, these can't be beat for the money. I've listened to all the major brands within, and above, the same price range. The only comparable bookshelves are the B&W's. Why are these better than NHT superones/zeroes, or PSB Alpha's? The tweeter. I don't care if these tweeters cost $5 and are made in denmark, these metal domes sound distictly high-end. Very detailed, crisp with perfect decay. Teamed up with a couple of pdr-12's, they'll smoke a lot of pricey tower systems.

Strength:

unbelievable soundstaging when considering financial constraints

Weakness:

Definite swell in mid bass at about 73-80hz

I have not heard another speaker at this price that can compare. A couple of notes:

- Used Chesky test disc to see where that annoying mid-bass
hump is to be found
- It should be possible to get rid of it by reading the
manual and using it's advice on speaker placement
- Really superb off axis response
- Great sounding for jazz and classical (dynamics really
nice)

I have noticed in a fare number of reviews, that these speakers are said to be better than NHT Super Ones. That is simply not the case. My father uses Super Ones and they utterly humiliate these speakers in terms of soundstaging and clarity. The only area where the Titans outperform, is in low bass below 57hz, where the Super Ones start to loose level. When I tested the Titans, they where audible, at moderate volume, until about 38hz.
One other thing to mention. The 771s also dramatically outperform the Titans. Once again about the only thing that the Titans do better is low bass output. Furthermore, my brother owns a pair of 771s, which has allowed me to do ample comparing of the two.

All said the more you spend the better the speaker. Having had time to listen to these three different budget audiophile speakers I can say that they are all a delight for the ears and all a great value.

---- the overall gets a five because it is hard to find a dollar value that parallels these speakers.

Hey Jeff, (and others)
I Just had on loan a Richter Thor S/W from Tont at Reg Mills Hi-Fi for a couple of days. It really filled in all the blanks and increased the presence 10-fold. For about $980 AUS I think I'll definatley invest in one. It's just the right size (10"), in a smart well finished and styled, sealed enclosure that doesn't look like it was made in a discount furniture factory. As some others do. Perfect for a Sub-Sat system.

Strength:

Metal dome tweeters usually found only in much more expensive speakers set them apart from similarly priced rivals.

Weakness:

Cannot remove the grills to show your friends the cool drivers.

I decided to build a new system for music and home theater but didn't want to spend alot of money. However, I wanted the best sound that my money could buy so I listen to ever speaker in my price range and a little above for comparison. I used the reviews from this web site to help target the speakers I wanted to audition. I selected several cd's from my collection (Which I recomend when shopping for speakers) and set out on my search. I narrowed my search to B&W 302's, NHT Super One's PSB Alpha's, Polk RT 35's and the Paradigm Titans. These are all very compitant speakers but the Paradigm Titans stood out from these. The highs are very smooth detailed and crisp(after break in of course). They image very well and have a good amount of bass. Paradigm has brought a high end speaker down to an affordable price. With metal dome tweeters these babys sing. I recomend putting them on good stands about 12" from the back wall. For the price, there is no better speaker.

My System:
Paradigm Titans (Fronts) on Lovan stands (sand filled)
Paradigm Atoms (Rears)
Paradigm CC 70 (Center)
Denon DSW 30 (Subwoofer)
Denon AVR 55 (Receiver)
Technics SH-AC300 (Dolby Digital Decoder)

Strength:

Price, performance. Very crisp and sharp sounding speaker for 200 bones.

Weakness:

Non-removeable grills, but that's the sacrifice you make for such good performance for so little $$$. Vocals are a bit lacking, but for the $$$, it can't be perfect.

I bought a pair of the Titan's for my father this past Christmas. He had owned a pair of the Bose 201's, and thought they were great. Well the thought of him listening to Bose just did not sit well with me, so I decided to get him a real pair of speakers. I had heard about the Titan's, but never actually heard them for myself. I went up to my local Paradigm dealer to demo the Titan's.......

Brought some Rush, Yes, and Eric Johnson cd's. These little speakers handled everything I threw at them with remarkable grace, and ease. What really struck me was how sharp and crisp they sounded especially on The Yes Album cd. Guitar string plucks were razor sharp. Drums and cymbals were fast and very accurate. For the money spent, I just didn't expect such quality sound, especially from such a small speaker. Bass was ample, and these speakers could really play loud. They also added such a dynamic presence to the overall sound.

Well Christmas morning, my father opened em up, and all excited said "Wow! But I've never heard of Paradigm, they aren't as good as the Bose, but I can use them as my rears now." Yup, he honestly used these EXACT words. Well I said, why don't we move the Bose, and hook up the Titan's as the mains. After we were all connected and ready to go, we fired em up. My father really enjoys the Phantom of the Opera cd, so in it went. All of a sudden his jaw just hit the floor, and a few minutes later the family started filing in, and eventually we all were just sitting in the living room marveling at the wonderful sound coming from the Titan's. My fatherv then says My god, you must have spent alot of money on these, my reply: "well they were 2 dollars more than the Bose." No way he says, he wouldn't believe it.

Now 6 months later, and he's still talking about them. The Bose have been relegated to spare room duty (where they belong). He is actually buying cd's for himself now, something he has never done! Best money I've spent on him.

The bottom line, for 200 bones, there isn't a better speaker.

It is simply the best speaker I heard in this price range. It gives a clean sound with reasonable bass and detailed high frequencies. An excellent choice for anybody who wants to have a serious sound without a serious investment! Perfect for home theatre mated with a good subwoofer. Give them a try! For the price-quality ratio, I can only give 5 stars, even if there is better speakers around if you are willing to pay at least the double.
