For the price these speakers aren't worth it. The Sound Dynamics RTS-11 which retail for about $950 (can be obtained in mid $600's if you look hard enough) are cleaner at a fraction of the price. I would say the SD's over the Paradigms and then the B&W 603 series 2 over the sound dynamics.

Strength:

Great Finish BI- Wiring Great Bindings Tight Bass

Weakness:

The waite to get these in a real wood finish. But the waite is worth it.

I have had these speakers for about 6 months now and can't be any happier. There are some great speakers on the market in this price range and these happend to be one ofthem. I purchased these speakers in Canada for 948.00 Plus 15% tax. Which I will get return on when iI fill out the proper papers. Any way on to the speakers. These speakers look and sound great. The mid range is true and bass is tight. Even better since I have it matched up with Paradigm PW 2200 sub. DO yourself a favor. Do your homework and give these speakers a test run. A good dealer will help you but a great dealer will let you try them out for the weekend. Just ask.

3 1/2 Stars for the waite on the real wood finish.

Strength:

:-), that's all I have to say...

Weakness:

Very, very low end...

Well, these speakers are plainly said, amazing. When I first got them, I, like a few others was worried about the bass response with 6 1/2" drivers....but was very suprised. The speaker seems to be very flat in frequency response, down to about 32hz where it begins to dip. This was found by listening and with a signal generator. At 20hz, they are still audible but, what really is there down in that range to hear? (unless you are talking HT) The imaging is absolutely incredible and the sound staging is next to nothing... As you listen to them the speaker seems to stop making any music and the air all around it seems to start. And, what I feel their best quality is... The piano sounds like a piano, the violin sounds just like a violin, and a girl singing sounds exactly as she was recorded...

For reference...my system consists of:
Marantz cd-67se
DH Labs inter
Pass Son of Zen amp
Home made...
And of course...Paradigm Studio 60's

highs, lows, and in between.

Weakness:

none yet

I was able to convince my local dealers to let me have the
Paradigm ref 60v2's, B&W CDM7se, and monitor audio silver 5i's at home this past weekend. I had narrowed my choices
down to these by listening to several others in stores. I found that the 60's and the CDM7se's were almost indentical in my living room (driven by my new Onkyo TX-DS777). The MA silver 5i's couldn't keep up (they are very nice for the money, but don't have the punch, warmth, or overall sound quality of the others. Too bright for me, and nowhere NEAR the low end of the other 2). SO I was down to 2...
I then bi-wired the 60s and the CDM7's, and felt that the 60's responded better to this. They really tightened up and put off an incredible soundstage. The B&w's were not far behind, but for the money they should have been way ahead.

Verdict: I chose the ref 60s, they have it all as far as I can see. For the money, I couldn't do better. Give 'em a listen.

Casual Listener

Strength:

Rosenut wood veneer with brass feet is gorgeous. Bass extention seems very good.

Weakness:

Having hard time integrating a sub-woofer

I really like these speakers, but the Denon 3300 receiver I'm using doesn't quite result in the rich, smooth sound I heard in demos where the 60's were powered mostly by separates. Being only a casual listener and becoming an enthusiast, I can't see (or hear) much difference from one speaker to another. For example, my $400/pr JC Penney/MCS speakers sound pretty comparible to all the above except for being waaaaay too bright sounding (sorry if this example demonstrates a lack of audio understanding). Here's some observations I did make though:

NHT 2.5's sounded much fuller and had a more pleasing sound than did the B&W 603's I demo'd side by side. All other demos were in different shops not side by side. The most impressive speaker I heard was the PMC TB1 and it's slightly larger brother, TB2?. These speakers gave meaning to the audio term I've seen, "accurate". The bass response of both were amazing from the 4" bass drivers. The Tb2's were astounding (but they were $2200). The TB1's were so revealing that they were overly bright with my listening material (Lisa Guyer teamed with Barry Goudreau from Boston fame). Monitor Audio's had the very same "accuracy" quality of the PMC's, and I had actually ordered a full set of MA's, but the dealer never came through (Audible Images in Riverside, CA....Mark Owston is the owner, and he's now out of business, but from what I know, he's being investigated for some crooked behavior). The Def tech's and Paradigm's had a very similar feel to me, and because the wood veneer is so damn good looking, I went with the Paradigm's.

For movies, I'm pleased but I just can't get any sub-woofer to sound really good. Explosions are only so-so because I have to keep the volume so low because of excessive sound from effects like the very beginning of Independence Day - the constant earthquake sounding rolling of sound. That's not a very good description, but I hope you know what I mean. Movie theaters also have too much of this type of sound, but in my small room, it's too much.

Any suggestions on a good sub-woofer would be appreciated. I've tried the Paradigm PS-1000 v3 and RBH TS-10A. The RBH tightens up the bass on music, but I'm not sure it sounds any different for movies. I'll be trying the Paradigm SW-2200 soon though. I would really prefer something smaller like the RBH though for asthetic reasons.

The P 60's are definitely nice, but I'm withholding giving them too many stars because I believe as good or better at the same price is possible. I'm not yet convinced that the speakers mentioned above are any better than the Polk's or Infinity's you can buy at Circuit City. A side by side test needs to be done first.

A final note, I believe someone on a budget can find and be extremely happy with lesser speakers than the above. But for those of us that never want to settle for "PEP Boys specials", all of the above are more than satisfying.

Strength:

Amaysing clarity, spacial definition and stage.
Bass goes way down to 20Hz and goes way up to 18KHz.

Weakness:

None, period.

Now that i have enjoyed them for 6 months now, they only sound better.
I would have imagined to get "used" to the sound, or at least
be less impressed as time goes by...

I was wrong.

Most reports of a month break-in are correct. I took me
2 1/2 weeks but with constant and fairly loud listening.
I have NO problems with bass and these speakers! Using
Bass Mekanik from Pandics (a car bass test CD) i CLEARLY
hear bass right down to 20Hz, so i am OK for upright bass
or pipe organ. In some instances, i even has to lower bass
gain. I would suggest this: 1" from back wall, 3" from
side wall if any. Aim them perpendicular at your sides
when in listening position. In my case, positionning was not
an issue.

As for voices. I truly dont beleive that ANY speakers can
reproduce voices like these! Even in-breaths are hear
and air wizzing on the lips as Sarah sing Angel(Surfacing).

Clear and crisp highs all around. From the triangle from
Lorrena McKennit songs to cymbales from U2's Exit.

Other components:
Yamaha 1992 RX-360 (getting old...Xmas is comming!)
Yamaha DVD-S795 as DVD and CD (great also!)

Listen, LISTEN not just hear and you will be convinced...

Good for home theater AND critical music listening

Weakness:

Having to deal with the Paradigm Dealer Network

Want to feel drawn into your music collection? Where becoming involved doesn't necessarily mean cranking the volume up to ear-splitting volumes? Look no further than the Paradigm Reference Studio series. From the 20's on up through the 100's, I honestly don't feel that there are better speakers for the money. And if you're a home theater aficionado, you get the benefit of being able to match the Paradigm Studio/CC, one of the best center channel speakers I've ever heard.

After burning these speakers in for a month, I couldn't believe how lush these speakers sounded. The Monitor Silvers sound precise, but quite simply can't match the enveloping, encompassing sound put out by the Paradigms. From musical bass all the way through the smooth highs (even with "bright" electronics, such as Yamaha), you won't find a speaker that matches the sound of these Canucks.

Mate these speakers to the DH Labs T-14 Biwire interconnects, and prepare to hear some seriously hi-fi sound at a very modest mid-fi price. And keep in mind that when Home Theater Magazine instructed their readers to go buy the Monitor Audio Silvers without so much as an audition, they hadn't reviewed the Paradigm Reference Studio/60's.

Strength:

Remarkable clarity and range for the price!

Weakness:

Might consider subwoofer for home theatre...

If you are looking for a full range speaker system in the
$1,000 price range, please do yourself a favor and audition
the Paradigm Reference 60's. I found nothing to compare
with their crystal clear midrange and highs as well. Some
may want a touch more bass for home theatre or heavy rock,
but for me (blues, jazz, pop, classic rock) they cover all
the bases just fine, thanks! In fact, I have found the bass
to be rather startling coming from such a modestly-sized
speaker. I would recommend you have a fair amount of quality
power for these (somewhere in the 100 watt per channel range), but you can get by with a tad less if the budget
won't allow. The light cherry laminate is also very nice looking indeed...my wife called them "pretty" the first time she saw them, which suprised me greatly! Check them out!

Strength:

Build quality, finish, price, midrange, pretty much everything i look at in a speaker. EXCELLENT highs, warm mids, accurate bass for the size.

Weakness:

Bass is a little weak, but we are talking about 2 6" drivers..one for the mids and the other is the bass driver. Really show weaknesses in your equipment.

First, let me say that I am hooked on the Paradigm line. I feel that they offer the best bang for the buck out there. I think there are other lines and manufacturers out there, but to be honest I like the sound of Paradigm gear better than most b/c of the smooth and warm midrange.

I got my 60's in the real-wood light cherry veneer and love them. Prior to the 60's I had the 40's in laminate paired with a Velodyne 12" FSR-12. I think I like the 60's better, but I do miss the real low notes. I think if someone wants a 100% music system and is looking into Paradigm I would look into the 100's...I just couldn't afford them in the real wood, and that one a criteria I wanted.

Anyways, price is excellent, sound is even better. The highs are very delicate and accurate, but sometimes a little rolled off and/or shrill. I attribute this to my amp. I am using a Sony STR-DA777ES reciever that is really nice, but when cranked hard isn't the cleanest thing I have heard. This will be soon fixed with either a Sherbourn 5/1500A or the Odyssey Stratos amp. More than likely I will go with the Stratos b/c of the reviews, the build quality, and the customer service Klaus brings to the product line. Anyways, The sound of the 60's is very fast, accurate and warm unless you really crank them in my system..and since I doubt many of you will crank your speakers in my system, no worries. Just save up and get nicer gears.

I really love using the 60's with SACD. I think this is an awesome combination b/c of the midrange and air both the 60's and SACD bring to music. The 60's are also EXCELLENT Ht speaks. I use them in conjunction with the Studio CC (AWESOME CENTER--best I have found in that price range..$400-$500), and the PAradimg Atoms for surronds b/c I listen primarily to music and I have a smaller place and couldn't justify spending $500 on a pair of surrounds (20's).

I highly recommend these speakers. They are an excellent value for what they bring to music and HT. In my opinion they are also very beautiful speakers with the real wood veneer.

A few other pieces of gear I HIGHLY recommend is:
MSB Link DACIII
Sony DVP-S9000ES cd/DVD/SACD player
and my favorite so far in my system is the TMC White Label interconnects. THese are so awesomely neutral and quiet..excellent price too.

Thanks and cheers.

My gear:
Sony STR-DA777ES (soon to be paired with the Stratos for 2 channel)
Sony CDP-80Es 5-disc changer
Sony DVP-S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD player
Monster Power 3500
Studio 60's
Studio CC
Atoms for rear
Liberty ULTRA CAP 2 bulk THX cabling for the front 3
Stealth SCR silver ribbon interconnect from 80ES
TMC White Label from SACD (9000ES)

Thanks and enjoy...still wish I had my MSB LinkIII...but SACD had to come.. :)

Strength:

Tight bass, clean high end, great sound.
beautiful to look at.

Weakness:

none once i found their proper spot in my listening room

these speakers were a big upgrade for me over an old pair of celestion bookshelf speakers i had.
i have them paired with a paradigm pw 2200 sub and the combination is great for both music and home theater.
i was less than thrilled with these speakers until last night when i began experimenting with their placement.
i had originally put them about 8" from the back wall, about 2 feet from the side wall and had them angled in towards the middle of the room. their faces were flush with the face of the sub and the results were not what i had expected for the money.
then my wife took an overnight trip and the experimentation began. i pulled them out about 2 feet from the back wall, pointed them straight forward and left the sub where it was and had found the sweet spot.
having read all the hoopla about proper speaker placement, i should have made this move long ago because the difference really was spectacular for both music and movies.
i highly recommend these speakers and strongly encourage buyers to take the time to find their proper spot. the pay off is huge!
