Strength:

Great highs/mids

Weakness:

Lows make too much noise

Bought these and at first thought they sounded great. I then decided to give them a real workout. Put in Armageddon DVD and cranked my system. They sound good but on scenes where there is a lot of bass, they vibrate too much and it sounds awful. I have plenty of power going to them also. I like my old Polks better. I am using a 2200 Paradigm sub as well which is great for bass, best buy of my life. However, the 60s didnt cut it overall.

Strength:

Very detailed. Crystal clear highs. Image well.

Weakness:

Maybe a little lacking in bass, but if you have a sub, it's no problem.

I originally purchased the Monitor 7's which gave me the highs that I was looking for. While in the store, I also heard the Studio 60's which were nicer but I couldn't afford them. After about 6 months, I started getting tired of the Monitor 7's. I noticed that they were a bit fatiguing to my ears which could have been due to a combination of my Yamaha Rx-795 and Paradigms. I decided to upgrade to the Studio 60's and I haven't been dissapointed. I'm hearing things that I haven't heard before. I've had these for about 4 months now, and I can listen for hours and not get fatigued. The highs are incredible and the midrange is also outstanding. I also purchased a pair of Studio 20's for the rears and the 60's blow them away in the midrange which I wasn't expecting. The bass is still pretty good, but I use a sub anyway. If you're looking to spend around $1000, I'd check these out.

I went through several months of auditions trying to decide on speakers for my home system before settling on these paradigms. I had a pair of NHT 2.5i's for a couple of weeks ... they didn't interact well in my listening room. Bass was waaaay to boooomy and could not be fixed wherever they were placed in the room. Then tried NHT 1.5's with a subwoofer. Didn't sound right. Auditioned a pair of B&W CDM7SE's at home. Those were very musical but didn't seem to have the bass extension I was looking for (especially considering their price).

I was lucky enough to find a Paradign dealer that let me demo a pair over an extended weekend. I listened for 4 days and they blew me away. The Studio 60 V2's seem to have it all. Great bass, very smooth response. These were significantly less expensive than the B&W's (which list for $1800) and to my ears are much better. Real wood veneer looks outstanding too. If you're on a budget you should be able to find the laminate versions for under $1K which is a bargain for this type of quality sound. They also seem fairly immune to placement. Against a wall or pulled away they sound fantastic. I was originally worried that bass wouldn't be deep enough given the smaller (~6.5") drivers. This was not the case. Unless you have a very large listening area they are probably all you need. Find a local dealer that will let you try them out at home and prepare to be impressed. You will not be dissapointed. Paradigm really know how to build in great sound for the $$$.

Strength:

Uniform imaging from lows to highs, love the low midrange details of timpani strikes, etc. Very balanced. Great finish, and a nice piece of furniture to have in the home.

Weakness:

Can't think of one yet, but had initial tweeter distortion on one speaker the first day, which my dealer later replaced and the problem went away.

Excellent Product.

I have loved my Paradigm Titans and they blew me away for the details they provided at a price which couldn't beat back in 1994. Now, I have a bit more money (read, I'm out of college) and can upgrade my components. Of course I kept Paradigm in mind for their value and pricing, though justifiably I paid more for these top of the line/series models than the Titans.

I read everything I could find on any reviews on the Reference series. Then finally, I auditioned the Studio 40's and then later the 60's. I chose the 60's for the bass extension, but also because they are floor standing and I didn't have to buy stands.

Mine are probably not broken in yet, but already the details are amazing. HDCD and high bit rate digital recordings are excellent. These speakers can show the limitations of poor recordings vs. better ones. Guitar stums are aparent, as well as complete echos of organ Cathedral music. Female vocals can also be piercing.

When I got the speakers home, I noticed on the first CD I put in and tried, on a track of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata first movement, that I was getting tweeter distortion (or "artifacts", as my dealer coined it) on piano, tinny notes above a high "e". Other high, but rich sounds like a high French horn also made this one tweeter distort. The tweeter was replaced free of charge, and the problem went away and I am happy, but I was disappointed until it was corrected. Who knows what could have happened to the tweeter during installation or transport? But my dealer responded quickly, ordered the part and replaced it. Even offered to come to my home, but I opted to take it in and have them hear the same problem I had had.

My system:

Receiver: Denon AVR-3801
CD:Denon CDRW-1500 (with HDCD) using analog out as my receiver doesn't decode HDCD.
Mains: Paradigm Reference Sutdio 60's
Center: Paradigm CC-170
Surrounds: Paradigm Titans (for now)
Back Surround (for DTS-ES) Paradigm Atoms (for now)
Subwoofer: Paradigm PS-1000

Okay, I am a Pardigm and Denon freak. I may upgrade to less integrated and more expensive components, but for my current small apartment, Denon does wonders for handling A/V needs in one tremednous, and easy to use package. The Paradigm Reference Studio 60's are icing on the cake, and give me the kind of sound I've always wanted. As a music major with a demanding ear, listening to Classical music a lot... I am really happy with these babies.

Strength:

Everything!

Weakness:

None

There is nothing better under $2,000. One would have to spend thousands of dollars to out-perform these speakers; even then I don't think the difference would be dramatic. The bass is wonderfully robust and tight;the mids our magical; the highs are liquid and brilliant without being harsh. This is how it sounds without them even being broken in yet; I can't wait until that happens. I contemplated the studio 80's, but there wasn't that much of a differenc to me. There was slighty more bass, but I have the ps1000 subwoofer for home theater. A sub is not needed for music listening unless you listen to rap or something similar. These speakers compare to speakers costing twice as much and a destined for classic status. Paradigm must once again take a bow.

Strength:

great, tight bass, clean mids, smooth, detailed highs, nice finish choices for those on a budget

Weakness:

a little flat front to back in mids

After narrowing it down to the Studio 60s and B&W 603s, I decided the only way to compare two speakers from two different stores with different accoustics was an in-home face off. And the winner? I have'nt made the final decision yet. I will say that both speakers delivered the quality, but in different ways. I ran out of time to run the B&Ws through my "Frank Black" test ( the Studio 60s SHREDDED!)but on quieter more instrumentals like jazz, accoustic guitar, piano etc., I'd give a slight edge to the B&Ws. Their more laid back style conveyed a more holographic sence of space. I still loved the Paradigms but they seemed a little more immediate; plenty of width, but maybe not as much depth. I might give the Paradigms the edge in dynamics. Lots of punch and pop without fatigue. They still sounded great two rooms away. Both speakers had no problem with a narrow sweet spot-I could stand or move side to side without the frequency response collapsing.
All in all they are slightly different sounds for different ears. I think the most important thing when making a choice is to narrow it to a couple and do an in-home comparison if your dealer will allow it. Both speakers sounded different in my room with my gear, and by the way, better than in the stores (I did'nt believe the salesman until now). Since I have not parted with the cash yet, I'd appreciate any thoughts from someone who has done a similar side by side comparison .
P.S. I'd like to thank the fine people at Stereo Plus and Performance Audio here in S.F for allowing over night trials! The snobs at some stores won't.I guess a mere $1100 sale is'nt worth the hassle to them.

Strength:

Clean Sound, Great punch, Huge Soundstage, Very accurate, Clean powerful Bass

Weakness:

none period !

I spent over a year listening to all speakers in New York city. Speakers are the hardest buy indeed and it can drive an audiophile crazy !! Anyway after listening to almost every speaker created on earth including some that costs over 20k (JM Lab Utopia) I ran into these speakers and instantly fell in love with them. Although I already bought the Paradigm Studio 80' (old version) I must say I regret sometimes not buying these speakers. Not that the 60's are beter than the 80's but since my living space is small It would make a better speaker for me. Although I listened to expencive speakers that I cant afford I must say that Paradigm deserves every reward it recieves because they put to shame other speakers costing much more. B&W CDM7SE was one of my favorite speakers costing around $1600 pair and other than the Studio 80' I didnt think I would hear a better speaker in this price range but I was wrong. The Studio 60' is the best darn speaker in the world for under $1500 period! Clean neutral sound with huge soundstage, Fast tight bass with good extended lows for its size ( Not SUB bass but drum bass) It can also provide good sub bass but a Sub is needed for those who want to crack the wall. The highs are extended, sweet, airy, and very clean. Its not the smoothest highs I heard (liquid dome tweeters only) but it was never edgy, harsh,or bright, and it can handle anything you throw at it. This speaker has dynamics that were unheard of even on speakers costing way over $2000. You will not hear a more dynamic speaker under $2000. It can play very loud and clean without any distortion. I dont own these speakers but I would love to have them anyway. There are other great speakers out there but for this price range you are simply waisting your time, I already waisted over a year and I can honestly say that these speakers sound much better than most speakers I heard costing over $2500.

Strength:

Clear and natural sounding-virtually no coloration. Tight bass with lush extended highs.

Weakness:

Requires serious break-in time.

One can not truly appreciate these speakers until they have ample break in time. The studio 60's really start to shine after about three months of moderate use. I don't see how they can get any better, yet with every passing day the sound get's sweeter and sweeter. I love these speakers! They beat any and all other speakers in and around this price range. The studio 60's are a good comprimise between speakers that are too laid back and those that are too forward. The best way to describe the sound is natural. The recordings sound as they were meant to souond-good or bad. Bi-wire these with DH Labs silver sonics and you will have the best sound for your dollar. The bass response is amazing, but be patient; the bass definition really makes itself known after the break-in probationary period of 90 days. All in all a perfect all around performer; it accurately produces the subtlety of classical and jazz to the demand of electronic dance pop; a rare find.

Strength:

Works well when you have to have a home theater and music system - works well with all styles of music

Weakness:

No glaring ones

By far the best bang for the buck you will find. The only give-away to its modest price is fit/finish. But to match the sound quality and get awesome looks, you'll have to pay much much more than its asking price. Very detailed, very smooth, and won't offend. Ideal for systems that are used for both home theater and serious music listening. Anyone who complains about the lack of bass must not have enough juice running to them or put them in too small of a room. Just because they are modestly priced doesn't mean you can use low end equipment to run them. Sony and Pioneer stuff won't cut it for these. They scream for a ballsy amp and decent cables, and a healthy sized room to really open up. The investment in these areas is well worth it if you really want these to shine.
