Strength:

Efficiency, great on vocals/horns, tight bass
Efficiency, great on vocals/horns, tight bass

Weakness:

If any, maybe a touch to bright

I can't seem to stop buying new CD's. I love to listen to the KLF-20s! The only problem I'm having is at high volumes the bass makes my CD player skip. I have the sub turned down during CD playback so it isn't causing the CD to skip. Just the KLF 20s. I have them spaced about 8' apart with all my components in the middle. This is driving me up a wall!! Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions to alleviate the problem? Other than that I am totally satisfied with the 20s. For $1000 you can't beat them.

While I consider myself an audio enthusiast, I knew nothing about GOOD stereo equipment (including speakers) until a couple of months ago when I started my quest to buy some new equipment (and finding this site was a blessing). To cut a long story short (to read the long story ... check out my A/V web site http://www.rittinger.com/stuff/rons_av.htm)I purchased the KLF-20s mains, KLF-C7 center, KSF-S5 rears, The PhaseTech Octave 1.0 sub ... all connected to my Yamaha RX-V995 receiver.

When I heard the KLF-20s in the showroom they we're being driven by separates and when the sales guy cranked up "Wherever I may roam" by Metallica ... my GOD it was frightening. The room filled with awesome power and the speakers cranked out the most ferociously sweet sounding music I'd ever heard (if you consider Metallica sweet). Everyone knows these speakers are great with an under powered receiver/amp but when connected to separates (or in my case 100W x 5) ... they ROCK !!! But then you're saying, "What about soft music at moderate to low levels" ... the final demo in the showroom was Sarah McLachlan. We boxed them up minutes later.

I compared speakers by B&W, Polk Audio, Infinity, Paradigm, NHT, PhaseTech and the Klipsch blew them all away. Note: The B&W did have a slightly better sound (and I do mean slight) but when performance was compared during HomeTheater and loud rock and roll ... the Klipsch were by far the best bang for the buck.

Strength:

great clarity,great bass,excellent dynamics

Weakness:

a touch of glare and brightness. needs a larger room

When I first brought these speakers home and set them up I was appauled by the way they sounded. They did sound like a PA system. So for 2 weeks I played them constantly even when I wasn't home. The speakers really began to warm up. LP after LP revealed a clarity and sense of dynamics I have not heard from many speakers and I've listened to a lot of them. Pitch, power and pace - these speakers have them in spades. One word of caution, be carefull what auxcillary equipment you use with them. My Adcom equipment is a bit on the warm side, so it compliments these speakers well. Also choose your interconects and cables well. SOme of you have said how great the imagining of these speakers are.Well try them with Monster Z series cables in place! The image expands across the room and out the back door! The room seems a lot more crowded now, what with all those performers in there. Be carefull as to quality of the recordings you listen to. These speakers are very revealing and somewhat bright on the top end. If you put on a bright sounding recording, they will drive you out of the room. This especially true of classical recordings. Did I say these speakers ROCK! THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN. I would be interested in hearing from others as to which cables and equipment they are using. Good listening!

Strength:

Dynamic, great bass punch, open sound

Weakness:

Build quality, can be a little bright sounding

As a previous owner of KLF-20's(and a month listening to borrowed KLF-30's) I can attest to all of the positive attributes that have been said in the many reviews made for this speaker. I love this speaker as much as anyone but I must say to my ears the new Klipsch Reference RF-3 sounds even better. I don't mean to put down the Legend series as they are a great speaker, but I have found that imaging, transparancy, soundstage, detail retrieval, and bass articulation are a step beyond the Legends. And they cost less also! I couldn't believe that the midrange sounded more accurate on the 2-way Rf-3's than the 3-way KLF-20's. They don't play as low but with a sub it isn't a problem. (I needed a sub with my KLF-20's also). Don't let the smaller size fool you-listen for yourself-that's all that matters in the end no matter what anybody says.
My equipment : Parasound Amp and Preamp, Onkyo Integra CD player, MIT, Straightwire, and SilverSonic cables, Velodyne 12" sub.

Just bought a pair of KLH 20's yesterday. I had choices of NHT, B&W, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics and Klipsch. The Klipsch definitely sounded the most accurate with good bass but were a bit bright. Fortunately when I got them home the brightness wasnt there. I attribute this to a very accurate, clean and powerful power amp (Carver AV-705x Premiere) and an Audio Control EQ (C-101 Series III). Classical, Jazz, Rock, and DVD home theater were all quite impressive. I definitely recommend these to up and coming enthusiast. Their sensitivity is quite high at 100 db's, power handling is 200 W/CH (800 peak) and there impedance is 8 ohms. You dont need a large power amp to push these but it definitely will sound much fuller if you do. The KLH 20's were a steal at $1000/pair. I'm sure any of the other speakers I had to choose from would have sounded great but not as beefy and full ranged at this price. I highly recommend the Klipsch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased these speakers after several lengthy auditions of speakersin the $1500 and under bracket for use in both music and home theater
settings. Besides Klipsch, I auditioned Energy, Polk, Atlantic, and
several others who didn't make the first cut.

Of these, the Energy (C-6) and the Klipsch (KLF-20) became the finalists
due to their clarity and accurate sound reproduction. I felt that the
C-6's had a little richer sound in the midrange and better imaging, but
the KLF-20's had the crispness and detail that I wanted. The bass is
tight and accurate, with a smooth transition to the mids and no
discernable crossover. The mids and highs are incredibly detailed - no
other speaker in this price range comes close. As a side note, don't
bother listening to the KLF-10 - there's simply no comparison.

My current setup is a Yamaha RX-V795 receiver and a Yamaha CDC-675 cd player
(digital interconnect). I was worried that the "natural sound" of the
cd player would cause ringing or make my speakers overly bright, but this
hasn't happened. The music I listen to is a broad mix of pop, rock,
alternative, folk, and classical - all of which is easily handled by
these speakers. Acoustic guitars and female vocals are a real treat
with these babies.

One word of caution: these are bright speakers and might not be to
your taste. Listen before you buy.

This is one fine speaker, they have a well balanced sound. Bass is strongand tight, midrange and highs are very clean but not overly bright. They
image pretty well and will play at silly levels with no strain at all. I
am using a rotel (200WPC) amp and straight wire cables and it sounds great.
In the past I've had several other klipsch, polk, definative tech, vandersteen
ect, none match these. They are going to replace my van 2CE's in my main
listening area. Bravo to klipsch, a job well done.

I think the Klipsch KLF 20's are the best speakers I have ever heard. My friend has Martin Logan speakers and they have great imaging, but the also sound like someone turned the treble all the way up. The KLF 20's speaker have a great balance between grunting bass, great crisp mid-range and clear highs. If anyone thinks that Jenson speakers have more bass than Klipsch, than they are running it with some Technics 50 watt reciever. I have a Yamaha RX 975 reciever and it is the best system I have ever heard. I can't even put the volume up as much as I would like because people two houses away have heard it.

Strength:

very sensitive, able to play any type of music you throw at them, play loud enough not to have to turn the volume up

Weakness:

needs special attention to placement(like any other speaker)

theres nothing about these speakers that i dont like, even the most discriminating person can really appreciate the spacious sound of the k-20's ive audition'd several speakers revels, boston acoustics, sonus faber(which are awesome speakers)but since music is universal i listen to many of different types and the k-20 i can honestly say outperformed them all. i mean how many speakers can actually play hard rock through them and give u such a live soundstage then play jazz and sound just as good i think with these speakers ur getting the best of both worlds. If your looking for a pair of speakers in the $1000-$1500 range auditions these speakers im sure u wont be dissatisfied one of the best investments ive made
