Strength:

Exceptionally sweet and smooth highs and mids, excellent full-bodied bass, bass filter in amplifier, finish and grille options.

Weakness:

None--just a few annoyances.

I had a chance to compare the IL-50s to Polks and Definitives in different stores. To me, the IL-50s had a warm, full-bodied sound that made the others seem relatively cold and strident. At a third dealer, I heard Boston Acoustics VR 965s (but no IL-50 there), and they also seemed relatively cold-sounding. So, the IL-50 was the winner hands down--had to have a pair no matter what! (The matter is the cost.) Clarity is exceptional and the bass is phenomenal: in turning up the bass, you don't get more boom, just more bass. And it can be thunderous. My room lights actually dim a little on heavy bass hits. There is simply no weakness in these speakers.

At home, the speakers sounded great right out of the box; no breakin appears to be needed.

Infinity sells a kit that you can use to tune and level out the principal bass peak caused by your listening room. That's a great concept. Unfortunately, the kit costs 60 bucks. Maybe I'll get one when I recover from paying for these. It's a shame that the dealer doesn't have one to lend out.

Styling is pleasing, if not the most attractive I've seen. The cabinet comes in three shades of simulated wood grain and three grille colors are available (extra cost for two of them, however). The cherry finish was the best match to my red oak entertainment center. There's no black "sock" enveloping the cabinet, so the speaker doesn't look like a scratching post to the cats!

A few minuses: the red/green pilot lights are overly bright and annoying. The silvery base stabilizer looks like a handlebar moustache and limits you when positioning the speaker right next to a cabinet. When idling, the amplifiers stay slightly warm, so you know they are wasting some electricity.

One "problem" is that I can now hear every flaw in a CD. On one recording of the Vienna Philharmonic, environmental rumble now is evident, and I can faintly hear someone far off shout "bravo" at the end of a movement. We'll just have to ask recording companies to make better CDs now!

Strength:

have a decent full sound

Weakness:

its a powered speaker. not worth the money

These speakers are not completely terrible, but they are deffinetly not the best choice. The main problem is that the IL40's which are a step "below" these speakers in the interlude series have much more vivid midrange sound. The only thing that this speaker can do better than a pair of IL40's is in the bass response. But if you buy a pair of IL40's and then add a nice subwoofer (which will have tighter bass the the built in speakers) you will gave spent just about the same amount off money but have an far superior sound quality. I have never heard a pair of powered speakers that I like and these are no exception. In almost EVERY speaker line a companies best pair of UNPOWERED speakers coupled w/ a good subwoofer if the best sound they can offer.

Strength:

great look - full sound from hi end to low end

Weakness:

none

they are in and i love them. these speakers crank - not just for home theater but the heavy rock music i listen to as well. low end to hi-end they fil in all the gaps. i have a frequency cd that pitches the speakers from 40hz to 150k. there are no gaps in these babies. the price was right on line - i think i was a little un easy at the full retail price. but use the internet - i got my set on line at www.sounddistributors.com and paid $1350.00 - with shipping at $150.00 by truck - i still saved a bundle. check these guys out at www.sounddistributors.com and save some money. these are a 5 star speaker in my case.

Strength:

home theater

Weakness:

playing music.loose bass, unrefined mid and treble response

After hearing these speakers in a home theater setup I got them and after first listening to some dvds I was impressed with their bottom end,the subs really did a great job, for example on Terminator 2.But when I listened to music, anything from Korn to the Eagles to Andre Bocelli ,I was horribly suprised to find that it seemed with each CD I played I had to adjust treble and bass parameters on my Onkyo 878 receiver and the sub bass was loose.I experimented for three weeks to try to find some happy medium, but could not.Especially with heavy rock and "alternative" music,it really was a depressing ordeal. The speakers look great, are great for movies, but I'm left scratching my head in the music department.I sent them back, got my money back, and purchased klipsch RP-3's and could not be happier all the way around. And I only paid a grand flat and saved some money!

Strength:

LOW END!!! clarity, open and honest speakers. Best speaker for the $$$

Weakness:

None so far.

I got a good price on these suckers due to an employee deal. But I would have paid full price. I have listened to lots of movies and music 7.1 channel snell systems and a 7.1 infinity prelude system (both over $10K) and I would take the Interludes over both of them. I used the Infinity RABOS eq system, and using a computer based RTA, the system is +/- 3dB all the way down to 21 Hz! Totaly honest! No external EQ used besides the RABOS.. I have the IL-25 center channel, and IL-10's as surrounds, and watching DVD's is amazing! I dont use a sub, I just steer the LFE to left and right, and there is more low end than needed. Music sounds great, however, these are honest speakers. If the recording and mix is good, it will shine, however if too much compression or weird EQ was used in the recording, the infinity's show that. I personally like that, being an audio engineer, but if your looking for a speker that makes everything sound good these are not your speakers. If what you want is clear, defined, un-hyped audio, and amazingly tight *LOW* low end, then these are for you!

Strength:

Speed, price, openness, bass detail, RABOS, wife likes they way they look!!!

Weakness:

Circuit City sells them, a bit closed in when compared to the megabuck products and not capable of extreme dynamic swings...but for the $$ who is complaining!

These speakers are STUPID good for the money! It is a shame that Circuit City is the main retail putlet for them since they are absolutely lost there and the local guys haven't the faintest clue what they have on their hands. (they were utterly lost when I went in and asked to purchase a RABOS kit). This speaker simply cries out for top notch electronics and setup to demonstrate what they are actually capable of. They are matched with an Edge Audio M-8 and a Theta Casablanca in my current system and they sing. They actually replaced a $14,500 pair of Genesis speakers in my sound room and haven't left since. The Rabos Kit is an absolute must and when employed gives them insane low bass detail. No, they don't have the sheer power the Genesis did (solved that problem by purchasing two IL-120S subs to go with them), and they don't quite reach the effortless dynamic limits those speakers had...but they are so close and so cheap that who cares! They also look gorgeous and my wife likes them (score!). I'm thinking of checking out the Intermezzo 4.1's, but don't feel the pressing need to change them out. Highly highly highly recommended!

Strength:

Quality of sound, performance of the built-in sub woofers, style and value for money.

Weakness:

Having only had them for about a month I am yet to find a feature that I am not happy with.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert when it comes to sound systems and I have made my share of mistakes in the past buying packaged surround sound products. This time I did my research and put together a neat package that delivered the level of expectation I had for the money spent. Coupled with the IL50 front speakers, I added the IL36 center speaker, a pair of US1 speakers for the rear and an Onkyo TX DS797 reciever to achieve a great surround sound system.
The IL50's make movies come to life, with enough bass to vibrate the room and a level of sound quality that should meet most expectations.
The only other thing I have to add is "DO NOT GO CHEAP WHEN IT COMES TO THE WIRING" good speakers deserve good cabling, I used the Monster Z series and am convinced that this is in part why the IL speakers are performing so well.

Strength:

Good sound, good bass from powered sub's.

Weakness:

Power supply problem on both speakers after 10 mths.

I'm writing this basically to let everybody know about the Power Supply problem in my IL-50's I had, also about CC's warranty repair service. Last January I decided to update my aging Stereo System that I had bought overseas. I checked out alot of different speakers, JBL, Klipsch, Yamaha, Pioneer, Polk etc. After listening to these speakers at CC 2 times, I was sold on them. Good quality sound, plenty of bass for DVD's, etc. They performed flawlessly for 10 mth's. Then I started to have problem's with the Sub's turning on. First the left one & a few days later the right one. I returned them to CC for repair. They called a week later and said they had them fixed. They said they had to order parts from Infinity. I thought well that's cool, went to CC to pick them up, but guess what, CC's repair people had them all scratched up. I raised a little he--, and asked for new speakers, was told they had to send them back to repair before they could give me a new set of speakers, go figure! I still told him I wanted new speakers, if he couldn't give me any satisfaction I was gonna call CC corporate office and see what they say. Well, the next day CC's Business manager called and said they would give me instore credit on my speakers. I went back to CC and got a pair of IL-40's, and a Velodyne sub, CHT-12. I was afraid to get another pair of IL-50's with the Technical problem on this set, I didn't want to go through this again in 10 more month's. I'm glad I didn't. These IL40's with this Velodyne sub blow the 50's away, for music and DVD's. My whole house rocks now!! With the 40's I've gained another mid-range speaker,(3-way versus 2-way), plus the separate sub makes all the difference. The sub's in the 50's can't match this Velodyne! These are pretty good speakers for their price range, but Infinity needs to get their Tech. problem fixed on the sub's amplifier. I'm going to rate these speakers 3 stars for good sound, but with a Tech. problem, I honestly can't go any higher.
