Strength:
If you can get a steal of a price, say, $750 and below you have a great deal! An excellent performer overall.
Weakness:
The cabinet really needs thicker walls, especially with a built in subwoofer. The foil rap simulated wood needs improvement. These seem to be a great speaker for the price I paid. I have a feeling that the RABOS system will help level out the bass responce. The bass extension seems to be good, but don't expect ultra bowel shaking lows. At the retail level these speakers should come with the RABOS system. I like the design of the cabinet, however the workmanship is just ok and the side and rear walls are far to thin. The face is perfectly thick and uses a sloping sides design which I like in a speaker. The speaker drivers seem to be very neutral and will not show the flaws of some recordings. The clarity is good, however I wouldn't call it high end. I would never ever consider paying the retail of $1700. At this price point I would prefer to look for a deal on NHT, Swan's Diva or Paradigm. Also, the Cherry finish is far to light to be called Cherry. In summary, they are very neutral speakers with the bonus of RABOS to help smooth things out, excellent for HT needs and pretty good for music. Another bonus...built in powered subs which can ease the budget and avoid the obtrusive "box" of a normal subwoofer. By the way, my ratings will be based upon the price I paid. Strength:
Good, really tight bass. They make a voice sound even more pleasing than it is in real-life, because they soften the raspiness. The 10" sub is not too far away from the midrange as is the 12" in the IL-60. Good clarity. Very soft mellow sound that warms up music very well. The subs are great. I like the tens in the IL-50 better than the 12s in my IL-60s. The IL-50 just has sooo much tighter bass. These things are also going dirt cheap now that they are discontinued.
Weakness:
Very soft mellow sound that is warm and spirited, but won't get harsh and bright when you want it to. You lose detail in comparison to the IL-60. The 3-way config. forces the tweeter to drop to too low of frequencies to cover the gaps. It really should be a 4-way. The IL-40 or the IL-60 are actually a better sounding speaker if you don't care about the sub. These speakers are great for the money. I don't see how you could beat them for an all around "loud" speaker. They sound fantastic for music. Similar Products Used: Klipsch RP5 and Infinity IL-60. |

Strength:
Great sound, heavy duty, well built
Weakness:
poor adjustment controls, manual poorly written Overall the Infinity IL 50 is the best set of speakers I have ever owned. The sound is oustanding, crystal clear. The subwoofer and main speker controls are hard to set, and the user manual is poorly written, not much help at all, but I purched these off ubid at a great price. Strength:
Amazingly smooth from bass to highs. Properly adjusted, the bass is nearly free from peaks, and quite natural sounding on acoustic jazz, classical piano. They tolerate recordings that are less than ideal and still let you hear the music in an enjoyable way. They have given me a great deal of pleasure these months, and look forward to more of that. They reflect every change of position, cable, amp or source, but are fairly forgiving of associated gear.
Weakness:
Gotta have the grills OFF. They kill the extreme highs. Most people will not get the best from them, as they are touchy as to position in room, moving one spkr 1/2" has made a real diff. in image here. Speaker wire and cable choices are important. You need wire that gives good detail, or they can sound a little restrained. They may be just a tiny bit soft at the very top (very wire dependant). They are worth working with!! This is a 2nd review, the 1st being not long after purchase...have had them over 6 mo. and have a better grasp of their qualities. I can now say that for a smaller room like mine, they are going to be tough to beat. Strength:
GOOD Sound, design, easy to operate and fits in any good music enviroment. The size is also good ...just the right size. Ratting the Product leaves me no choise as to give it a average rate due to the Malfunction. If this was not the case I would tip the SCALE in all aspects. Although Infinity have helped me out very professional and prompt wise, they made me pay for the repairs dew to the fact that the waranty only covers the US tewrotory and I am in Portugal. ( I brought them over from the US).
Weakness:
SUB WOOFERS POWER SUPPLY, I have had the same problem with the SUB woofer,as other owners, on both towers, although in Portugal I had the infinity REP talk to the US and they managed to repair it .....BUT its very anoying to know that this is a posible malfunction and that happens quite often. NOT GOOD for such a high performance Speaker that Infinity has put out. Funny thing is that the product is no longer on the WEB sight for Infinity....Does this mean that the Product has a malfunction and that they have detected it..... I would advise any future buyer to inquier about this problem. |

Strength:
Good look, sound, and design. I am just very desipointed to have found out that the power supply problem, has happened to others.
Weakness:
The electrical problems with the SUB woofer on the IL50, and some minor finishing details on the cabnet and floor stands, that in my opinion should be more detailed. Well to start off I have the Infinity IL50, IL 36C and a pair of IL 10. Good quality speakers, good sound and a good look. I had a problem with the IL50`s, namely with the SUB hoofer`s power, it just quitted one day and would not work again. (No power was reaching the Powered SUB). I had to take it to the Service center here in Portugal and had it repaired. Infinity gave me a great support, sending them the layouts for the repair to be done here in Portugal, and we, (Infinity US and their Representative in Portugal) all managed to get the repair done quicker than I expected, and a fairly good job. Although they charge quite a good price for their repair work. The fact is that, the US warranty is not valid for outside the US. WHY NOT? A few weeks later the same thing happened to the other speaker, once again the power does not reach the SUB woofer, but just this time its not permanently, some times it will work. I guess I will have to take it to the Repair Center.... NOT GOOD |

Beautiful Strong, and Clean mids and highs Even Better sounding, using the RABOS measurment system, purchased from Crutchfield for 60.00
Weakness:
Poor workmanship in cabinet design, and Subwoofer placment. Annoying resonace subwoofer sounds. Subs makes you feel like your are in forest listenting to birds talking, from all the resonance sounds, cauced BY poor cabinet desigh Not Bi-Wireable Well, I bought these speakers to replace my RP-3''s, since I am into more of the Mid High range listening, compared break your wall bass listening T he very first thing I notices was the subs made a strange high pitched clicking sound, when the sub hit lower notes, even a lower volume levels! I contacted infintiy''s customer support, and was litlle to no help in the situation. I was given the option, to drive them 85 miles to a service center, or contact Ubid! Anyway to make a long story short, I also purchased the RABOS, system for the speakers to dial them in. After going over the many lower freq''s, with the RABOS disk, I found out it was NOT the Subs making the noise but the Speakers cabinets themselves! They started resonating at certain lower freq''s! which was completley unbearable! I think part of problem was the design in these speakers In that how they mounted the sub, which were mounted just above the base of the speakers, which alloed very little space from the bottom of the speaker cabinet and the bottom of the subs!, wheras the RP-3, mounted their subs almost in the middle of the speaker, where the resonance, if any would not be noticed! The cabients are also not as sturdy as the RP-3''s, and the IL50''s even physically SHAKE when hitting certain lower freq''s! My temp fix, was to put towels under the front spikes, to dampen the vibration, and that seemed to help some, but it looks like I made a error in choosing the Infinity over the RP-3''s, and will be returning the IL50''s Similar Products Used: To much to list, stared buying high end speakers in 1980 |

Strength:
A good all around speaker and have a decent look to them (I have matching maple) fronts and center. decent sound. Good price on line
Weakness:
Loses some of the midrange being a 6.5 and a tweeter. IL 40 have 8" 4" and a tweet. I purchased these speakers about a month ago. I have them as fronts in an HT/Music system. They are connected to a Yamaha RXV1200 using the LFE output split to each speaker. Overall the speakers have been good speakers. I have used other Infinity products and have had fairly good luck with them. I purchased these because I did not want to have a seperate sub...let me rephrase that my wife did not want me to have a seperate sub. I have been happy with the sound quality and for the price I paid through u bid it has been well worth it. I have listened to the IL50 and the IL 40s and believe the range in the 40''s is much more distinct. IL 40s plus sub would be the way to go. The bass that these speakers put out is average, but I did not expect much out of a powered tower sub. I will say that the Infinity R.A.B.O.S system was a great help. $60 through crutch field. It took a awhile to make the adjustments, but did tighten up the bass. It was nice to plot the curve of your speakers and be able to get rid of spikes. one of the best things about the cd is to understand what different Hertz ratings sound like. Until you actually have a cd like this I would say most people would not know what 80hz sounds like. It helps you in adjusting the crossover points. the subs do roll off fairly fast past 35hz, but yamaha has the bass extension that adds 7db to frequencies under 70hz. I would not pay retail price for these speakers. Open box or get them on line through and auction. The interlude series is on their way out. none I am glad I bought these wonderful pair of speakers.I have never heard sound like this from speakers-unbeleivable!awesome sound listening to music-what really separates this speaker from others is the clarity while viewing movies. These speakers sound so close to reality with my Denon reciever. These speakers are a true blend of art and technology. |

Strength:
Damn do these speakers rock ! right out of the box , easy set up with the proper components. adjustable bass, and LOTS of it !
Weakness:
my earlier review was from when i didnt have the speaker , but it was being delivered. i saw the floor model at CC and it was ugly. now i know what it looks like and it is a beautifully made speaker! only weakness is the length,a little long for my taste, but it moves more air that way. first off let me say these are probably the best speaker in this price range for the money. I listened to many speakers when i was making up my mind like Linn's, paradigm monitors , snell and polk rt2000. nothing except the snell stood up to these. and snell costs about $2000 more. i was able to get a good price on these and I cant think of a reason not to get them. the maple finish goes nicely with the furniture that i already have. very highly recommended Similar Products Used: 20 year old cerwin vega's , Lame JBL's 312. |
