Hi all,

A friend of mine has just been scammed with the white van technique, and we're trying to work out if Accoustic Reference LS-1000's are produced by the same company. They come in a brown box and have a bass, mid and tweeter. I was wondering if anyone in the SE of england knows where these get distributed from. I did manage to go to Dynalabs warehouse in Wimbledon but they're not selling this stock...

Any help appreciated.
Apologies if this doesn't relate to Dynalabs directly.
Thanks:)

Strength:

Sound is OK. Not the best i've heard, not the worst. Decent bass and tweeter.

Weakness:

I still feel violated.

I'm dying. I'd hoped to see some internet ad showing these speakers for sale for $1000 plus. Instead, to my chagrin, I find this place. Thanks alot! I feel much worse now.
I too fell for the fast talking white guys in the Dynalab van with all the right logos and explanations. They showed me the speakers and the warranty. When they came down in price from $1200 to $600 to $350 to $340 I was not only more suspicious, but contrarily, even more interested, especially after seeing them. Luckily my ATM would only let me withdraw $240, and they guy went for it. What the hey! Even if they sucked, I was out only modestly. After listening to them at home, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they actually worked and didn't sound bad at all. Considering the overvaluation of most electronics, these speakers would probably sell for $500-$600 at Best Buy. Although I still feel uneasy that I fell for such a potential rip-off, I think I got my money's worth. Now if I actually needed these new speakers, I'd feel even better.

Strength:

The speakers have no strenght at all. Clever marketing.

Weakness:

Worth $ 20

Why all the hazzle about Dynalab and the white van guys ?
Those "music lovers" are clever and have done their marketing homework. It is you, THE CUSTOMER, who is not able to distinguish between junk and quality. If you haven`t
learned YOUR lesson, why not let make them some bucks with junk ? Take a look on all those super sale ads on loudspeakers with great names selling 70% and more off.
Do you believe it`s different ? Believe me, it`s the same.
Even at the much reduced prices they make a profit.
It`s the same, but with elegant ad campaigns around it.
Working in the industry for a long time with stan-white.com,
I know what is fact and fiction.
A good tweeter may cost $ 1 or $ 100 and you won`t even
SEE a difference. Music is something very peculiar.
You shouldn`t handle it like a pair of street shoes
what you do when you look at the price first.
To reproduce music well, EVERYTHING counts, even different
glues will end up in different music reproduction.
Sharpen your ears, try to get back your money from
the white van guys and if not keep them as your
bad reference.

There is a way of turning this con round with a reverse con. I was scammed in London and bought a pair of Dynalabs for £250. The returns guarantee here is for 1 week and I took them back on day 3; they were willing to return all the cash as long as I had a receipt showing the purchase price. This is because they have to reclaim the commission paid to the van drivers who sold them.

However, they do not look to closely at the receipt, the comment when I asked for my money back summed up their approach, the boss (Ken) said "...you win some, you lose some...". The trick is to carefully change the purchase price on the receipt from £250 to, say £450 as I did. I walked out £200 better off. Lucky maybe, but its a good feeling to scam the scammers. Try it.

Scam

I was also scammed by "White Van Man" and paid $300 for my Dynalabs. However, it was because I was stupid, greedy and prepared to handle stolen goods. All those people who are slagging off the guys in the vans should really be wondering if they're any better themselves.

Incidentally, I can't detect a major difference in sound quality (although, there is a big difference in build quality) between my JMlab Cobalt 810s which I paid over $1,000 for and the Dynalabs. Maybe there is a bigger scam going on that we haven't noticed yet.

SCAM

I was amazed when my friend wanted to buy these speakers. He talked with these two guys in a white van for two hours. They kept changing their stories, and my friend was still interested in their "GREAT Deal/SCAM" I actually called the cops to get rid of the scam artists, so my friend wouldn't give into their tactics. Of course the police gave them a ticket, for soliciting, and sent them off on their way. He was actually going to buy two sets for $725.00. What a waste of money. GO BUY YOUR STUFF AT THE STORE, not from two guys in a van.

Speakers look great

Weakness:

everyting else about them

I was in the market for floor standing speakers to complete my home theater set up. Unfortunately fell for the scam and paid $600 for these things off the back of the truck. Thought I was smarter than this. Thank goodness for this website. I came home with the speakers and decided to check out on the internet. Since I did this within three business days I returned the speakers and got my cash back. You see these guys coming-RUN. Actually I kind of hope I run in to them again and they try the scam. I'm not into physical violence but these guys deserve it. I saw the sales credo in the office when I took the speakers back. I can't believe this isn't illegal. THey try to get these speakers in your hands any way possible. Their despicable tactics have to catch up with them sooner or later.I wonder if they have medical coverage for their employees selling this junk. Oh, when I went to the warehouse they were unloading a tractor trailer load of these pieces of crap.

clever scam artists.

being cheated.

I am a student and sacrificed my savings for these speakers. Money aside, it is the principle that hurts. I trusted these people, and all they could do was lie to my face when they knew I had little money. They did the classic follow me to the ATM etc. I feel stupid and ashamed, cheated, and incredibly hurt. I hope that these people will learn remorse and guilt for all the pain they have caused.

Don't fall for the scam. If you have, you have my sympathies.

Speakers were ok...they were hooked up to my sherwood amp and provided descent enough sound..

Weakness:

sales con that thrives on peoples stupidity..
not worth anywhere near the $1200 US claimed

Same old story...
what can i say if u get them for under 300 aus then keep them u wont get any better but if u paid any more- then im afraid use the 3 day refund. At any rate get evidence of speaking to them in the 3 days. Dont bother calling the fair rights tribunal , there just a waste of time, unless of course u need someone to just futher your feeling of stupidity. Just go there and request money. they will have a day for returns and get some written documentation and signature of u being there just in case. Then go back and get the money- they were friendly enough i guess and the money was refunded like promised..

moral of the story is - stoopid is as stoopid does
tell people to avoid occuerences in future and try to stop this scam.
