Weakness:

Not a Loudspeaker but a worldwide sales con!

Conned by two guys, wearing Dynalab shirts, in a white Dynalab van.Stopped in Cobham village, Surrey, they had also sold in Esher & on their way to Weybridge.
Overstock, rush to get rid of extra speakers, showed copy of Loot magazine showing ad, speakers bought at £1800, selling for £1200-it must be part of their scam.
I am claiming the World Record price of £640,for speakers worth £50.Police unable to help, suggest Trading Standards Office.
Unable to gain access to Dynalab building Friday evening, will try again next week for refund.

Strength:

Lots of Bass

Weakness:

Treble fell off; Sickly Smell; Poor Quality

To add another (lucky) tale -
I fell for it and I felt really stupid when I found this review page.
"These SDA 2.8's are excess stock, don't tell the distributor the price etc."
They set up at a service station (Drummoyne Shell) with an ATM, and will accept the withdrawal limit (with feigned but convincing reluctance).
I took them home and hooked them up. The bass was strong - in fact I had to turn down the bass on the graphic to test the high range.
About ten minutes of playing and one tweeter stopped working.
I took them apart to investigate. The spade connector had fallen off.
Inside, they are as cheap as the outside (about the same quality as my AUD$200 Wharfdales. Tiny wires, slip on spade connectors, but they do have a pcb with two inductor, two capacitors and two high wattage resistors. I did not analyse the filter, but it probably is fourth order butterworth as in the specs. There was some black baffling inside for damping. The cases are just particle board, and the screws are already pulling out.
Well after two days I rang the Distributor (Century Distributors) and could only arrange a meeting at his convenience. I bought them Monday lunch time and rang Thurs morning and he tried to claim I was late on his Three Day refund policy, and I said they are faulty and Thurs morning is less than 3 days after Monday ...
He arranged a meeting for Tuesday and I got my money back with no comments or hassles. I only missed one day's work and had to drive two hours each way. When I was there he wouldn't let me in the office - it appeared someone else was having hassles with the same speakers.
My feeling is that he wants to be "legitimate" even if his "agents" engage in misleading and deceptive practices, so he honours his refund policy. ("you win some, you lose some" was said by another reveiwer")

So if you find out soon enough that you have been scammed go for the straight refund, otherwise try for Fair Trading on the grounds of deceptive conduct.
If you are stuck with them, then you may be able to improve them. If you only paid about $100 each, then you porably did OK.
Contact details for Century Distributors are in an earlier review.

Strength:

The white van was very clean

Weakness:

Every sound that came out of the speaker including the loud and unrefined bass

This very professional looking white van approached me at a restaurant and the 2 guys gave me this high pressure pitch. The speakers looked good and the guys initially started at $1200.00. I laughed and started to walk away. Then they lowered to $675.00 and I didn't turn around. Eventually they worked their way down to $200.00 and I told them that I would give them "$120.00, take it or leave it". They accepted. I got them home, hooked them up to my all Onkyo system and they sounded like crap. Even though I paid only $120.00 I feel as though I was ripped off. These speakers are worth about $25.00 a piece and that is retail. I took these apart and figured out that these probably costed them about $15.00 a piece.

Stay away from Dynalabs.

I have compared these to other speakers. What probably gave them the best run was a $600 set of JBL's, but even the JBL's started distorting at high levels and the highs were not as clear as the Dynalabs. I don't know what you are doing with these speakers but you gotta realize they are not stand alone speakers, they're home theatre. I use them as my fronts in my living room and for the money they are the best I have found.

They get ya with their flashy AD!!

Weakness:

everything

Well these stupid guys came up to me while i was driving and the second i stopped they asked me to check out these speakers. they looked okay but i was not interested. at first they wanted to sell me these pieces of crap for $800. but the truth of it is the're worth about $25 bucks and probably cost $10 to make. watch out for their ad, it gets ya. i was thinking, hell sell these things on Ebay. well when i found this review page i instantly went for the REFUND! if you get lucky (like i did) you should go for the refund. you have 3 days. hopefully they won't try anything tomorrow when i take the speakers in for my $250.00 refund. I feel sorry for anyone who falls for their scam. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD OF THESE SCAM ARTISTS!!!!!

If you need a grounding on this topic, take a look at http://www.audioreview.com/reviews/Speaker/product_7192.shtml

These clowns are back in full flight, today targeting punters in Sydney's Northern Beaches area (not far from their Sydney "headquarters" in Frenchs Forest). It seems that their ploy at the moment is to ride the back of "Olympic Hype" to snare some sales.

I spotted a Dynalab van in a carpark off Oaks Avenue at Dee Why this afternoon. I did a few laps of the scene, taking snaps with the digital camera as I went and these can be seen at http://go.to/djpix.

It was clear that the punter (pictured in the blue jeans/green jumper) was being hoodwinked by another one of their "great" stories. I parked the car at a safe distance, left all my belongings and valuables inside and approached the rear of the van for a listen.

Today's story (from when I got to listen in):

"....as I told you, I'm not going to stand here forever. These are left-over studio speaker sets from a job we did over at the [Olympic] Stadium. If we can get rid of them now, at cost, we won't get toasted by the boss. You know they're worth over $2000 a set, but if you want to take them now, you can have them for $800...."

I was furious. I'm not normally confrontational, but the adrenaline kicked in, and I spun around to interject. I cut in between the sales twit and the punter. I asked if I could speak to him for a second.

We walked about 20metres from the van (as the Dynalab guys looked on) and I told quickly and quietly that he was being told an age-old story and about to be sold some overpriced speakers. The punter wasn't overly convinced when we broke away and returned to the van.

I watched, again, from my car. The Dynalab guys were showing some sort of paperwork to the punter. Moments later he started walking up to Oaks Avenue. Before he could leave the carpark, one of the Dynalab lads chased after him. Following another 5min conversation, the punter walked on and Dynalab twit returned to the safety of his van.

I caught up with the punter, Vaughan(*), outside a shop on Oaks Avenue. He told me that he knew what they were up to. He said "I know that they are probably selling them without their boss' knowledge....the stupid guys shouldn't have made such a mistake..... I'm going to ring their boss to dob them in...."

Clearly missing the point, I painstakingly explained that that _was_ part of the con. The story WAS THE CON. We had a few laughs.... he counted his blessings.... we shook hands and parted.

Meanwhile, around the corner..... no sign of the van. The Dynalab team was off to find another victim! From London to Hobart and everywhere in between - BUYER BEWARE!

To the anonymous poster who insist in using my name. Here's an idea. Why don't we just stop this going back and forth. You don't like the speakers, I do.
My advise to those who have just purchased these speakers is simple and fair. Ignore the people trying to convince you either way on this site. Listen to the speakers, decide for yourself, and then decided whether or not to return them. Anyone who tries return speakers they just bought without even hearing them is foolish.

Strength:

bass, highs

Weakness:

not magnetically shielded (I think of getting supplies at a hardware store to do it myself)

When I first saw this page I panicked thinking I too had been taken! I called the office and asked about a return. I told the manager I had seen this site and knew the scam, he told me to hold the speakers for a few days, listen to them, and then if I wanted to bring them back I could. I then hooked them up and was actually impressed! While I think someone would be crazy to pay $1195 for them, I think they're worth my $300 (and the $20 for beer money.)

How long have you got?

I too was simply stupid and bought these from the infamous white van in Sydney.
The two English chaps actually gave me a receipt, which is obviously worthless.
Has anyone in Sydney managed to return these speakers to anyone or anywhere and got any money back?
Live and learn.

Just an all around joke.

Please note that any postive review or even neutral review of these products are done by "Ray" or "Dan". These must be the managers at the Jam Enterprises. I must admit that Ray was right when he says that the buyer did not have a problem with ripping off the manufacturer, but when you find out that you are the one scammed, then all hell breaks loose. If you were an honest person to begin with you would have never bought anything from these white vans. They sale trash but they will also give your money back when you have your receipt. No questions asked. Live and learn. Luckily I saw these reviews before the 3 day cancellation period. If you still have time TAKE THE JUNK back. They will give you your money. This must be how they keep it legal. Oh Well. Beter Luck Next Time.
