What can I say? I'm a mug. After reading all the reviews the same story keeps turning up. Two people in a white van (a guy and a girl this time), excess stock etc. etc. No they are not worth the A$750.00 I paid for them.
No prescence and a very muddy bottom end. I only bought them yesterday so I at least can try to get my money back.
Although I have to say I've heard worse.

I would agree that the product doesn't merit $1200.On their website, they have a lower price of $999 delivered.
I would say it belongs in a $400-$500 class.
They have no review done by anybody.
They do have a pretty good bass but everywhere else it is mediocore.
Remove the grills for better sound. They mask the sound quite a bit.
They claim way too much claims that cannot be delivered at their price.
I don't like the fact that they are selling them off the van.
It makes the whole deal feel like a scam.
I paid $240 for mine so I won't complain too much.
Potential buyers, go buy something else.

Able to raise plants 96.25cm off of floor.
Best sounding plant stands in the house.
Great gift to teenager for size and SPL.
Those guys in the white van were really motivated.

Weakness:

Can't overwater plants before vacation.

Hey of course they're crap, but they're proudly abused crap by an appreciative young teenager that has yet to explore the long fickle road of the audiophiles' quest.

CAVEAT EMPTOR

These sound better than one would expect once broken in by my Krell. The Nordost SuperFlatline has also helped.
Let's face it, You Get What You Pay For.
And the less you pay for these the better.

Me

Well I paid these guys a visit today. All went very smoothly. I purchased the speakers yesterday and had the receipt so thought all was not lost. After reading comments below I decided to take along a rather large and well built friend for support.

As it turned out I'm not sure if it made any difference. I gave them the speakers and receipt and they gave me the cash. (Perhaps if I didn't have my friend who looked like he was just itching to take someone’s head off things might not of gone so smoothly but who knows) There were no unpleasantries exchanged and I had my money back within 5 minutes and was out of there.

I'm guessing that they expect a certain number of returns and just hand the money back to the people who make the effort of taking them back.

Some information of interest to anyone who gets done by these guys in Melbourne. They are operating out of a factory at Factory 5 / 51 Grange Road East Cheltenham. The guy I spoke to was Cameron. I found out when someone was going to be there by calling and asking for their address. The guy on the other end was a bit cagey, and asked if I was calling about an interview. I agreed. I was asked who I organised the interview with and used Cameron’s name. That seemed to satisfy the guy and he gave me their address and when they would be there. Very nice of them I thought!

Looks like these guys are ramping up in Melbourne so I’m guessing there will be a lot more people wanting their money back soon. The warehouse they were operating out of would have had a couple of thousand speaker units. It'd be nice if there weren’t so many suckers out there and these guys were stuck with the speakers and had to sell them legitimately, but I guess life isn’t like that.

From the look of these reviews my brain.

Well it looks like this scam is moving to more and more places around the globe. The same story as those above. I've got a receipt at least and purchased the speakers yesterday so will see how I go in getting a refund. After about 2 minutes research on the net I cam across this site. Pity I didn't think a bit more clearly when this great deal was offered.

I'll post the results of my refund attempt with as much details as possible so anyone else stuck in a similar situation in Melbourne has a starting point.

What can I say? We all make stupid decisions from time to time. I'll chalk this one up as a learning experience whichever way the refund talks go.

I've had a few mates scammed like this but these were the only Dynalab labelled speakers I've seen - the others being muddy sounding Omnis.

So anyway... having spent countless hours listening to them around in his front room, he announced that he need to sell them as he was moving house.

He paid proabably about $700 - 800 and was gutted naturally. But he offered them to me for 100 pounds (about $160 - 170 dollars and they now sit in my front room hooked up to the DVD player and they sound fine.

And they also make an attractive plant stand as mentioned in the above posts.

So my point is that they are by no means the worst speakers I've ever heard, and for the price I paid they are a perfect for the job.

The scam is slick and unfair (I actually had a mate call me mid-scam for my opinion and I told him to not buy under any circumstances and guess what... he was still convinced by the scammers!), but for $160-170 they're not a bad deal.

I bought a pair of these speakers via E-Bay for $50.00. I had read all the reviews but simply wanted a set of enclosures to rebuild. $50.00 is about all they're worth. I disassembled both speakers. Here is what they contain: enclosures are made of 1/2 inch thick painted particle board (not MDF), the drive units are stamped metal with no manufacturing name or number, they are not inletted to the enclosure, the wiring is inexpensive stranded hookup wire, the crossover units are about 3 inches square and are soldered to the back of the binding posts. There is no sound or wave damping material inside. There is no internal bracing. There is a piece of black cloth that covers the crossover to hide it from being seen through the bass vent tube. And that's all folks! These speaker are being sold over E-Bay etc. for prices upto $1200!!They are also being sold under different names and companies. Please see the following website to learn the facts about these companies and to protect yourself from these "bargains" http://www.scamshield.com/ScamAlert.asp

My bright new yellow Mazda RX7 is a magnet for every nut under the sun. These guys in a white van at the servo called me over, and told me they'd ordered 16 speakers, and had been given 20, and was I interested in taking a pair or two off their hands.

They looked legit with the company van and the paperwork & so on. I should have clicked when I offered $400, and they said they wanted $600, so they'd have a few dollars for themselves.

Anyway, I'm putting them in the back of the car tomorrow, Saturday, & heading off to Unit 13 / 98 Old Pittwater Rd, Brookvale, to try & get my money back.

I'll post again & let you know how it went.

In all fairness, I haven't tried them. Other reviews here seem a bit mixed, but they would probably be OK as part of a home theatre system. Or bookshelf speakers, if you had a bookshelf that big ! I suspect my 80 watt per channel NAD would probably fry the speakers, if the stapled together chipboard boxes didn't fly apart at the seams first.

They're probably not worth the $600 Australian I paid for them, let alone the US $1200 in the magazine the nice man showed me. (His name is Jay by the way, and he went to school in Western Australia with a girl who happened to have the same name as me, & his girlfriend is Caroline, a skinny little weed of a thing, & there was a second male in the white van, and the Dynalab logo is only on the passenger side so it doesn't face the street when parked. His rego number is (NSW) AKF-34U).

At $200 (Australian) they're probably a fair deal, but I think these salespeople are being stung $400/pr by the importer, Century Distributors, so I think they're getting ripped off as well.

My main problem is with the way these speakers are marketed. I was obviously lied to by the salesman. Don't kid yourself, he's a salesman. His only objective is to sell you these speakers. If he'd come straight out & said he was direct marketing, we could have done an amicable deal.

As it is, I'm hopping mad.

Hell hath no fury like a post-menopausal woman, scorned or not.
