poor sound, questionable sales tactics

One of my good friends got caught by the white van, paid $200 and called me to discuss his "good deal." I went over to his place to see what he bought. We hooked them up to his stereo system (misc. components run through HK AVR25MkII - decent receiver, plenty of power). Since I'm not the audio nut he is it surprised me when the speakers sounded about the same as my inexpensive bookshelf system. The speakers were loud and that was about it. We both agreed he got screwed (especially after doing some internet research and finding this site - thanks). Fortunately he was able to track these crooks down and get his money back (although that took a week of excuses from them on why they couldn't make it out to see him - he finally drove the 60 miles to their place and delivered the speakers himself).

Moral of the story - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Tell your friends to be on the lookout for these characters, and tell them to save their money and buy from a reputable dealer.

What's with the poster below trying to imitate me and say I used to work for the company? It's pretty sad that upset buyers have to lower themselves just to influence other people about the deal. Who is the real scam artist here?
I stand by my first two postings! While I must say Dynalab certianly has an unusual way of moving their product, I see nothing wrong with it. Sure they're a little mis-leading but what salesmen isn't? I realize I might not have got as good of a deal as others but when wheeling and dealing is involved, not everyone is gonna pay the same price. As far as how much the speakers are worth, I have compared my Dynalabs to other speakers in the $400-$700 price range. I have to say that none of the other speakers I heard really out performed the dynalabs, and since the dynalabs can be bought for less and still have a 5 year warranty I have to say the dynalabs are my favorites!
Bottom line is, this is a place to review speakers not the salesmen.

Be afraid, my friends, be VERY afraid. A friend asked me to hear his "deal of the century." Two guys in a legitimate looking white van with a "Dynalabs" logo on the side offered him $1200 speakers for $300. They showed him an ad from "The Absolute Sound" "proving" the MSRP was $1200.

Seems their distributor made a mistake and they wanted to share the good fortune with him... Yeah, and I have a bridge in New York to sell. Something about speakers with rubber speaker that the "salesman" demonstrates by bouncing his fist off of leaves me more than a bit skeptical. Steer clear of this scam and invest in real speakers that didn't "fall off the back of a truck"

If you see that white van ever and they try to con you tell them where they can stick it. Those two guys in that stupid white van should beware i would like to have all of my money back, luckily i have a receipt, we'll see what happens. (what's up jiff) Tell all of your friends to be wiery fo these conmen. good luck to all that got scamed. do not buy these!!!!!

I must apologize for trying to manipulate this forum by giving fabricated reviews. These speakers are 100% pure junk. I used to work for the folks that sold Dynalab speakers and I was fired for no good reason.

Cheap, boomy, low efficiency

Yes, I got burned as well. On a brighter note, they have agreed to refund my money but only after a very rude exchange over the phone. It appears that they have received other complaints citing this website as evidence of their product's inferior quality. After mentioning I knew all about them as a result of the internet, "Dave" got very hostile and threatened to hang up. He accused me of wanting to return the speakers purely based on other people's opinion. I can tell you, that I did try the speakers side by side with a 15 year old pair of Boston Acoustic A100 Series II's which recently had the woofer surrounds repaired by yours truly. The BA's were considerably better sounding despite years of heavy abuse. The Dynalab's were muddy and put out much less volume than the BA's.

Deep Bass, and clear highs, great for front surround speakers. Cannot find a deal this good in stores.

Why give these guys such a hard time? Do you harrass places like BEST BUY, HH GREGG, or CIRCUIT CITY when they pull bait and switch scams. (You know, put an ad out for a product just to convince you to buy a more expensive product once you are in the store.)
Even though you may not like the way they sell the speakers, don't critize them until you hear them? DON'T TAKE THEM BACK WITHOUT HEARING THEM!!!
I paid $450 for mine and I LOVE THEM!!! I plan on going to the warehouse listed on the receipt to buy another pair!
After doing a little research I found out that the company is legal and listed with the Better Business Burea.

Unimformed Buyers

This is my third post on this speaker and would like to add a comment.
I've follwed this story for a while now. I've read the reviews, I know a victim, and seen the little article in WhatHIFI Magizine's Awards 1999 issue. (the article was telling about the scam and also the was a short review. Neadless to say the rated them as trash)
I always look for this van! Just once I'd like them to try this on me. I rehearsed many times how to blow holes in there sales pitch. I never did see a van anywhere.......Until yesterday.
I was in a HIFI store and I glanced out the window. Low and behold the van drives buy. My wife was in the van and I rushed out to proceed to become a victim.
I seen the Dynalab van on the other end of the parking lot stopped. The van is a newer nice looking van with a really big Dynalab logo on the side.
We drove over by the van and circled around and seen that he already had a perspective buyer. What to do.....hmmmm.
I pulled up and asked for directions to a HIFI store. I wanted to buy some speakers. The I said " Hey, are you selling some?" The 'salesman' said "no"
Well, I was stumped......what to do...
Finally I looked at the buyer and just said, "Whatever you do, don't fall for this scam and buy those speakers"
Both their heads perked up right away and the salesman started freaking out talking a mile a minute saying there worth $1200 and so on.
My Wife(who also is aware of this scam) opened the door and said let me out, I'll set them straight!"
She got out and then I parked and walked over.
From that point on things escalated into an arguement. I don't know what was said but he was talking a mile a minute and tried to not let me say anything. He was also shaking very badly. I noticed a big scab on his cheek, maybe he had already gotten his butt kicked.
He pulled out a magazine and flipped to a marked page and showed me an ad. I've seen this ad before because I read HIFI magizines quite often. The ad was for a HIFI store that deals in very expensive equipment. There were names like Bryston, Wilson Audio, Cary, Dunlavy, Etc.
There right in the middle was Magnum Dynalab. In the layout of the ad, they had to kind of offset the word Magnum from the word Dynalab. I told the Buyer that this is in fact MANGUM Dynalab and it is a company that deales in Power conditioners and stuff. They have never made a speaker. Actually they should sue, if you ask me!
As soon as I pointed that out, this guy tried to cut me off and started ranting and raving again.
About that time a man pulled up in a truck (a very big man). He yelled over and said that he had bought a pair of those the other day and wanted a word with the salesman. Was the salesman in for another scab on his cheek? I didn't stay to find out.
I was able to talk to the buyer for a minute in private and he thanked me for helping him out. We both left.
Man that was great, I'm gonna have to do that more often!
Do your part and spread the world, or do like I did and stop a sale. It will save somebody from being ripped off and will make you feel good too.

Me.... For falling for this scam

I fell for the exact same scam! 2 Guys in the truck called me over in the middle of a parking lot, they had some "excess inventory", showed me the magazine, etc.

The only thing that is unique to my story is that after the transaction, the guy tried to bum $10.00 from me! I guess they were hoping that I was so happy with my "Great buy" that I would just give him some money.

You may not believe this, but I NEVER go for this type of thing, but the guy was VERY GOOD.

I read these reviews the next day (thank you, thank you, thank you, Audio Review) and I called the number on the receipt the next day. My speakers are still in the box (un-opened). Believe it or not, the guy called me back and it looks like I will get my money back....stay tuned.

It's my own fault for being such a moron, but someone should stop these crooks. Hopefully, this web page will help others from being scammed.
