I just bought this system to replace an Aiwa system that quit working. After hearing it briefly at a friends house and hearing it at two differnt stores, I was sold. Not experienced in audio equip and not researching it first, I think I made a big mistake, not so much the sound quality is bad, but the price for the quality you get. I have tweeked on it and it sounds pretty good for a casual listner. If I were big into sound quality, I would be pi!!%d off. I will let bose slide this time, but next time around I will do my research. This 900.00 system is a great system if it were only priced at 200-300 bucks. What got me was high crisp sound only heard for a couple seconds at the two stores and passing through a friends house. Its hard to take a good listed when a sales man is at your feet and talking. If this system was priced lower, it would get a 5 star from me. So I have to give it a 2.5

Strength:

Good for TV and movie DVD's. Has good sound for sound effects.

Weakness:

The bass is not good at all. This set is more expensive than it should be.

I first bought a Bose system going with name recognition and because I was impressed with the demonstration at one of the Bose outlet stores. I had the set for about a month before I decided to listen to other speakers. First of all, I noticed that the bass left something to be desired. If you have a Bose system plan on getting an additional sub because the one that comes with the set is not very good.

Many argue about the sound being too bright, and others about not enough highs and lows. The fact remains that it is very comparable to other systems. Unfortunatly, it is comparable to other systems that are much cheaper. After looking around and listening to other sets, I would recommend that unless space is a real commodity, look and listen to other speaker sets because you will save money on other systems which are cheaper and sound just as good, even if you do not recognize the name.

I bought the Bose Acoustimass 10 speakers from Sears for $799.00. They obviously had a misprint in there advertisement, but made it good. Well, it didn't take me long to realized something was missing. Hmmm could it be Quality sound, I believe so. Anyway my 10 year old pioneer speakers sounded better than these pretty things. To make a long story short and several dicussions with the district rep from sears they took them back. Anyway I replaced the bose with some B@W 600 series all the way around and the difference is phenomenal. Bose better sound through advertisement!!!!!!! Before you buy Bose look around for better sound!!.

This bloke from The UK must be joking. Bose is very overpriced, and many Ht products deliver a much better experiance than the "omission" sound of Bose. I am not a critical listener, but I can hear a great difference in the grainy Bose.
the whole messis highly overpriced.
Other satellite systems just kill this Am-10 junk hands down. This, for less money---hundereds less.

Randy,
Would you please tell us where you auditioned, and what brands/systems did you pass on for the Bose? Everyone has different tastes, but it's rare that someone still selects Bose after truly listening to what else is available in the same price range from many other widely respected speaker makers. I don't mean to insult, but please elaborate on your findings. Thanks. (rating of 3 since this isn't truly an actual review)

First of all to all of those Bose bashers- calm down- it's a speaker. I love my music and my Bose does just fine for my use. But for all of you losers out there who don't even own a Bose product, I think you should shut your mouth. Bose has very well thought out concepts. I do agree they could put more quality drivers in their speakers, but who are we to make the descisions for Dr. Bose. Dr. Bose is a very smart man, no other single man has done so much for audio known to this day. The speakers do what they do, don't they? I'm not going to kept up in a room all day deciding if that sounded right or not. That's just plain laziness. I've been more than satisfied with my Bose in my home, my two Benz's and I plan on buying two 701's. For those who will get that emotional over a speaker, GET A LIFE. One more thing- those who have so much to say about speakers they don't even own- try listening to them in big open rooms and they make a total difference compared to the small room in the electronics store where you worship the product you probably can never afford and scrutinize the ones you can.

The only thing I can say is I like my BOSE speakers. They are out of the way and they sound great. Maybee the windows in my living room do not shake from the base but than again I have no hearing loss.

I can say the drivers in Bose cost that little because I can get off the shelf retail at Radio Shack, and [other places] the same drivers like so:3" whizzer cone: $4.95 4.5" full range $9.95.
Bose has little electronics in it's simple crossover, and few materials they stamp out. The biggest thing they pay for is marketing.
If Bose was a startup making the same products, they would be priced equal to [lack of] quality: about 80% less than they are now.
There was a 301 Kit on the market that sold for $19.95 each! How does that beat $300/pr!
Bose gets 1 star for sound quality

I could tell that Bose products were substandard from the first time I had the misfortune of hearing them. In my younger days, I wandered into a record store that used them for their house system. Shortly thereafter I wandered into another record store that was using Celestion Model 5's or 7's in its house system. What a difference! Extended, airy highs! Deep, solid bass! Sound that seemed to come from thin air rather than tiny boxes!! The system I own now crushes any Bose product I've heard. One speaker for Bose.I'm proud to post this review and condemn another Bose product to the Hall of Shame where they all belong.

Costco are selling these speakers for $900. I decided to listen to them. They sounded horrible!!! There was no bass, no mid, all treble. I couldn't believe they are selling these for $900. After that, I listened to a magnavox mini system($150). It did not have a subwoofer but sounded way better than the bose AM-10.
In Conclusion, I recommend these speakers to all of the bose freaks out there. Or to those rich people who are willing to donate their money not to the poor but to bose.
I would rather listen to my clock radio than listening to this.
