Strength:

compact size

Weakness:

lack bass, clarity

After reading many reviews on this website I have to write my opinion of the Bose Accoustimass 10. I bought this set for the Bose name. After spending all day running the wire through the walls and installing the Bose speaker brackets on the ceiling I finally listened and discovered the weaknesses. No bass, no clarity. I felt I had been robbed.
The Bose name needs "better name through research" I bought a subwoofer which helped, but I feel I shouldn't have had to do this. I am looking to purchase a digital receiver which will have more watts/ch so I am hoping this will improve the sound of the Accoustimass 10. Otherwise, Bose needs to be researching to improve the system as a whole and introduce it new as the Accoustimass 20. They need to have hook ups on the bass module so wiring can be connected easier instead of the RCA plugs (on the Accoustimass 10 bass module) and the computer plugs (on the Accoustimass 15 bass module).

There are better sounding systems for around $1000. Bose, wake up before your good reputation becomes sour by the poor products you are producing. Get back to hi-fi!

The nuts and bolts, does not snap when unsrewed

Weakness:

nothing that resembles musicality. it's just a noise box

If I had only come into the house of shame I'm sure I would have thought twice about recomending these speakers to a friend who wanted something compact for her small living room. But after a few hours of auditioning in her little apartment it sounded nothing but disgusting. Dave is more than right. Sadly enough most of us just don't realize the awful power of marketing. The respect I had for Bose is gone. They like Bang & Olufsen are keen on making the most amount of money, boasting about how esthetical presence. B&O
is reasonably good in producing TV's and Audio Equipment but none of it's products are worth the price they call for.
To anyone who is considering buying Bose I'd tell them to forget Music. They are an insult!!!!!

Some people comlaining AM10 has no bass, and some people suggesting add an aditional subwoofer, I'm wondering if they missed out to turn receiver's "Subwoofer Out" OFF, because AM10 uses LFE (Low Frequency Effect) from 5 speakers that connect to its subwoofer. Try Modonna's Immaculate Collection DVD, I feel bass is very weak from her earlier songs, but bass improves when play her songs recorded in later years in the same DVD. Especially, bass is always fine with TLC CDs and si-fi movies, like The Matrix. So I think media "source" is important too.

I have been using Bose Speakers for quite some time. I upgraded to the AM10 II about 2 years ego and I have to admit it's a great speaker system. I paired the speakers with a Denon 3300 and wow!. It's incredible that you can get so much sound out of those speakers. The sound is very clear at all levels. The bass is not as deep as I like but I went out and added a JBL sub to the system and problem solved.

It's a great system for both Home Theater and Music. There are way too many people in this site that criticize Bose but don't know the technology behind the speakers or have ever listened to a bose system for more than 5 minutes.

If you own one, enjoy. If you don't.. Then listen to one in the comfort of your home.

Great for movie watchers.

Weakness:

Bass in music.

Well I have heard all of the negative reviews for Bose and a lot of them are people who think these are loudspeakers like JBL floor speakers or something. If you use the connections on the back of the Sub your sound quality is worse. So what I reccomend is that everyone who diden't hook these up to their reciever, do it. Then buy a digital DVD player and watch Saving Private Ryan.

If you listen to music I would not recommend these. Mostly becouse the forgot the midrange diver! and the Bass is so low I think more comes out of the 3/4" tweeters on my JBL surround speakers!

LISTEN, DO BUY BOSE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. BOSE WAS NEVER MEANT FOR EVERYONE. THE AM SERIES SERVES A PURPOSE: THEY'RE SMALL, SYTLISH, AND DECENT (NOT GREAT) SOUNDING. IT IS, AS A MATTER OF PHYSICS, IMPOSSIBLE TO GET FLAT RULL RANGE SOUND FROM 2 1/2" DRIVERS AND A SMALL BANDPASS BOX FOR BASS. ERGO, DO NOT SLAM BOSE BY COMPARING THEM TO OTHER SPEAKERS WHICH ARE NOT REALLY COMPARABLE. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER SPEAKER THAT IS OF THE SAME SIZE AND AESTHETICS AS THE BOSE AM SERIES, LET ME WHAT AND HOW IT COMPARES TO AM BOSE. MEANTIME, STOP THE INVECTIVES.

I just moved from a concrete walled room to the usual
wood-wall room in CA... big difference... The bass sound
has all but disappeared, even if the bass module is
positioned near a corner or facing the wall. The shuddering
and thumping effects are gone.

What to do now... pour concrete or get another subwoofer?

The last reviewer said "IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER SPEAKER THAT IS OF THE SAME SIZE AND AESTHETICS AS THE BOSE AM SERIES, LET ME WHAT AND HOW IT COMPARES TO AM BOSE. MEANTIME, STOP THE INVECTIVES."

Take a look at the Energy Take 5 system for $800 retail (can be had for less) or the Boston Micro 9000 at around $1200 retail (can be had for less).

Both of these systems are small satellite speaker systems with a subwoofer. The build of the Energy's or the Boston Acoustics is much noticibly better than the Bose. The sound quality is so much better than the Bose with either of these systems. These speakers are the same size and same aesthetics and around the same price.

What people have been saying all along is true - for the price, you can do so much better than Bose.

Strength:

Size, clarity, and spacious sound

Weakness:

After proper tuning, none!

Let me start by saying that these speakers are not for everyone. If you are a true audiophile, which most people are not, do not buy these. But, if you enjoy music and movies in surround sound, then these may be for you. They are not for people who want to hear only bass, like that found in many rap cd's, they are for home theaters. There size is unmatched. Many people complain about not having any bass or mid-range, but I think that they did not take the time to tune them. Turn your bass boost on and they come alive. Listening to them in a big store does no justice for them. They are meant for a small to mid-sized room, not a concert hall. Many people do not realize the cube's clarity and spacious sound. The way the drivers are positioned allow for sound to exit the speaker from all directions, not just forward. It makes the music more spacious. The Acousitmass module produces a clear bass by using air, not electric. I have listened to powered subs, and their bass is force and unclear. With all the speakers properly placed, you can not hear the speakers, just the sound. I listen to orchestras a lot, and I can close my eyes and hear every instrument in it proper place in the orchestra pit. You just can not match these speakers.
