Strength:

Good sound, complete system (cabling)

Despite of all the negative comments about Bose I listened to several similar systems but Bose rocks!! So I bought the AM 10 which is powered by my Pioneer VSX-908 and I am really pleased with it. My DVD's sound really GREAT and also my normal music sounds very good. They are indeed expensive but as I was able to throw out those large speakers it was money well spent. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Bose without hesitation.

Strength:

Sharp, crisp highs, and headspinning sound reflection. Compact design, speakers are easily hidable

Weakness:

Very little bass and even less midrange.

I purchased the AM 10 system primarily for their reflection for dolby digital. However, although I knew that their was very little bass, I did not realize the complete absence of midrange which makes listening to any type of music through these speakers next to impossible. For strictly movie watching, they are among the best I've heard. Their precision is quite amazing when you consider the compat design of the speaker. One major problem I do have when watching movies is that the center channel is the same as the surround speakers. As a result I find myself wanting something a little deeper for voices. As for the bass, I think that it is undisputed that this system alone does not provide enough bass to listen to motzart, let alone The Matrix. Therefore I have added a velodyne 10" sub which more than makes up for what the AM10 is missing. While this has solved my movie watching problems, I still needed quality full range towers for my music listeng. Therefore, I have recently added a beatiful pair of polk which fill the gap nicely. However, I now find the bose system well overshadowed by my additions. An average listener would be extremely pleased with this system (with the addition of some kind of sub-woofer) for their home theater needs. However, someonewho is looking for that room filling, body penetrating sound should probably look elsewhere. Something that I had to learn the hard-way. As for all of the price whining, I dont feel that they are overpriced. For their size, the sound quality can not be challenged by any speaker on the market. That is the technology that you pay for. If size is not an issue, then they are not worth the price.

Strength:

Size, Design,

Weakness:

Bass, Pricing

Ok some reviews are right the bass produced with the AM10 is very poor. But indeed an active sub-woofer solves this problem.

The decision to buy this system for most people is the size, i didn't find a simular system with this design.
So compared to what!!!! is this bad or good?

The pricing is "overdone".

Movie / DVD experience is great!!

A friend of mine serriously regrets his Bose purchase after he heard my much cheaper NHT set-up. He wishes that he could get rid of his Bose garbage and start over.

I take exception to the review directly prior to mine, labelling Bose Am 10's as mid fi junk. This so called speaker is no where near good enough to be considered mid fi. Junk yes; mid fi, no way.

Strength:

cute, easy to set up, does not intrude into our living space

Weakness:

base when using dolby digital, however sorted when you buy a cheap active sub woofer

if you are in to dvd and all the bits that go with this one purchase (amp, speakers and big tv. these speakers give your room a bit of class and give the normal person just what they need.
one thing is you do need to buy a active sub (cheap is ok) to give you the bass when watching dvd as bose have nothing to pug into your lfe channel.

Strength:

None really, there are other sattelite systems out there that are tiny and sound much better.

Weakness:

too many to list

A few years ago I was looking to upgrade my speakers in my ht setup and went looking around, people told me to check out the Bose Acoustimass, and before listening, I went looking for more information online. I had this nagging doubt in the back of my mind because the speakers I had at the time were ones I got after I returned a set of Bose speakers that were given to me by my (well-meaning) father for Christmas.

Okay, this was before any dealers in high-end audio equipment sold products online, and the local dealers made me feel like I was getting bent over and... well, you get the picture. So I went to a "super"store, I know, unforgivable in the eyes of the true audiophile. Well, I ain't a true audiophile I've come to realize recently. After auditioning some PSB's, Dynaudios, Linns, etc. I've decided that I am firmly in the Home Theater group over the true music-loving crowd, and that is who this system is really marketed to.

Well, I listened to the Bose, and decided at the time I liked the Eosone sattelite/sub system better, so I picked that up. Since then a couple of my friends, and my dad have bought this Bose system, and I have to say that I made the right choice. My friends notice that my system sounds much better than theirs, and I won't let my dad listen to it when he comes over, because I don't want to hurt his feelings (again, after returning the first set of Bose he bought for me).

I really want a prospective buyer to read this review and realize that I am not flaming the company. The system just doesn't sound that good. There are other sattelite systems out there that sound better and cost less, most have been listed here. I also don't recommend the Eosone system. The sub on the Bose is more like a regular woofer, and the sub on the Eosones has to be set very low or it begins to distort very badly.

I want to finish this review by saying that if you are looking at one of these sattelite/sub systems, you should base it entirely on the size of your room, not "Gee it sure would be nice to get rid of these big speakers hogging up the floor space". Unless your room is so small that it is physically impossible to move, I think you will be happier in the long run with full size speakers.

Two last additions: I have not found one of these systems where the Subwoofer was worth anything, and center channels are very specialized speakers, while timbre matched, since all 5 speakers are the same in these systems, I've found that at least with my own system (and others) one of these sattelites is just not good enough to be satisfying in the long term.

Good luck, hope you didn't read after making a purchase of this system.
