Strength:

Bass, Nice highs

Weakness:

Heavy

Believe it or not, I still own these puppies and now use them as my surrounds. They have been pumping out sound for 12+ years and still going strong. The bass is outstanding on these and the highs are nice and not harsh to your ears. They are however power hungry. The more the better. My last amp fried after 15 years of use so I just recently purchased a harman kardon receiver with 55 watts per channel. It drives them ok, but I can tell they want more juice. Maybe ill get a 100+ watt amp just for my surrounds :-). Anyway these have been a great speaker and will probably last an enternity.

Outstanding Bass, Room Filling Sound, Full Range

Not sold anymore

First of all, I have read many reviews that inacurrately describe the Bose 10.2 Series II. They are the top of the line .2 series from Bose that feature two 2" tweeters, 1 8" side-firing mid-range and an internal 8" woofer in an acoustimass chamber. They are by far the best Bose speakers that I have heard...even compared to the infamous 901s. I have owned the 501 Series IV, 401s, 601 Series III, 301 Series III and now own a set of Acoustimass 10 Series III (for space reasons) but will never give up my 10.2 Series II as they are the best floor standing speaker I have ever heard. Bass, Full Range and no dead space...these speakers are from a time when Bose truly cared about sound. I wish they would go back to that time. I am willing to part with one set (looking to put them on ebay soon) as I just have too many speakers in my house (but it is so nice!). If you want a pair of solid speakers these are the ones for you...you will not regret the purchase! I purchased my first set in 1994 and have been thrilled with them since.

Strength:

They drive the music into you body, great for knocking things off of the walls.

Weakness:

TOOOOOOOOOO Heavy. I wish they consumed less room and really the 901's are a little more hearty in sound. They did not make them very long and finding used ones are almost impossible.

I have owned the 10.2 speakers since 1991, and they have been flawless ever since. I have equiped my entire home with Bose (2.2, 4.2, lifestyle and of course outdoor models) The 10.2 through an Onkyo still rock to this day. You can not even compare them with the "cubes".

Strength:

Good deep tight bass, crisp high end, attractive look, can be found nowadays relatively cheap (my value rating reflects this, not the retail price.)

Weakness:

Still lacking a bit in midrange (but not NEARLY as bad as the terrible present-day cube systems), spring-clip terminals.

The 10.2 Series II's are probably one of Bose's best designs and are suprisingly solid sounding for Bose- they actually compare favorably with my Paradigm Monitor 9's. It's really too bad that Bose decided somewhere along the line to forego true loudspeaker design in favor of their ridiculous mass-market appeal sat/sub systems (and the natural sound reproduction problems inherent in these types of designs.) Apparently Bose became more interested in PR and marketing than good sound, causing many folks (myself included) to fall out of favor with them. (Of course some people have always disliked Bose, and others will always swear by them.) Anyway on to the 10.2's. I was very surprised by the deep tight bass these things put out, even with 2 high frequency drivers per speaker and a relatively small woofer area working against it (which shows there was a time that Bose actually took serious considerations when designing speaker cabinets, port volumes, etc.) The high frequencies are crisp but not bright, and in some cases are actually clearer than my Paradigms (though not quite as dynamic.) Add to this their attractive look and these are actually quite nice speakers (though I think their retail of $1299 was pretty ridiculous- even back then you were still paying for the name.) All in all suprisingly good speakers- if you are a Bose basher nowadays like myself and have a chance to hear these, you may be quite impressed.

solid construction, powerful sound

Weakness:

Right out of High school I worked for a whole summer to save up enough to buy these speakers and I've never regretted it. Very well made, intelligently engineered and superb sound. In other words, these things ROCK! I would highly recommend the Bose 10.2 series II to anyone who wants a crisp, clear, powerful sounding speaker. They are apparently hard to find these days but if you are looking to pick some up for around $400, you're in luck because I'm selling mine. E-mail me if you're interested. I thought I'd offer them to enthusiasts first before putting them on e-bay. They work perfectly and have been stored in their original boxes for the past 3 years

Strength:

Chest compressing bass, phenomenal soundstage, excellent sound.

Weakness:

You can't find them very often because people hang on to them. Idiots at Bose stopped making them in favor of those crappy "Lifestyles" things

I can't believe some of the things that people have said here. These speakers blow the doors off of some brands that cost twice as much. I had a special room built in a house a while back to showcase their incredible sound. Bass? Are you kidding?? I cracked a basement window with these! Movies sound like you're there, music ROCKS. 10.2 Series II speakers hit notes that concert stacks have trouble with. I'm not going to post this five times like some of these lame-os to try to affect the ratings, but if you are considering buying some of these, consider the IQ of the reviewer. For the money, these are some of the best speakers out there.

Strength:

Great sound....bass, midrange, and yes, the tweeters as well!

Weakness:

No longer made

A friend told me about these speakers in the pawn shop. After he refused to look them up online, I went and purchased them just for the heck of it. After reading the reviews here, I brought them home and hooked them up to my Yamaha HTR 5280 receiver and I was blown away!!!! Any of the crap you've read here about "muddy" or "not enough" base response is a total lie! Maybe if your receiver doesnt put out enough power, but if you can kick out 100 watts, you're in great shape. I dont even use my subwoofer now and I have yet to turn my bass knob past the half way mark. I only use the bass extension to show off to "the boys". I moved my former mains (Marantz SP1250)to the rear as stands for my Bose 161 surrounds. Maybe one day i'll find a better use for them, but until then, the Bose 10.2 series 2 will remain the big dogs in the front. These are some very well made speakers (mine are dated 1988) and considering I was planning to buy some 901's in the future, i'm totally amazed and totally satisfied with these speakers. If you're fortunate enough to come across a pair like I did, definently pick them up.....you wont be sorry!!!
