Bose's best tower speaker for home audio

I have owned a set of Bose 10.2 Series II for about 5 years now and continue to be very happy with the product. I am pleased with the combination of the tweeters and midrange as well as the bass that makes up the speaker. The 701's were the supposive replacement for the 10.2's but they lack any of the bass that the 10.2's possess. I believe that if you can find a pair of 10.2's at a reasonable price (below $400), buy them. They may not be a super high end speaker but the are the best if not one of the best speakers that Bose has ever made (in my opinion to include the 901's)(I have listened to all of their speakers from the 901's to the 101's and the 10.2's blow them all away). Listen for yourself, close your eyes, ignore your phobia for Bose and just enjoy a good set of speakers!!!

I'm submitting this review to counter the poor review given by "A distrubed citizen." Either distrubed continued to buy every Bose product even after he decided they were crap or he's rating something that he doesn't really own. I'd advise him to stop posting falsified, biased reviews and to break out that dictionary he's such a fan of and learn how to spell retarded, disturbed, revelation, and addict.

Thanks
Daniel

These are the best spk at this rate, if u want to buy a spk of same quality u have to spent atleast three to four times more.
The speaker sounds very natural , and has a very tight bass , the hi frequency are very great.
i love these spk sooooooooooo much.
planning to buy another pair if i come across.

I purchased a pair of Bose 10.2 series II in 1989. The pair was used and some idiot had removed the sub-woofers apparently for use in a car. I contacted Bose and purchased replacement woofers for @$300.00pr. These are by far the best speakers that I have ever heard. I have a friend that deals in high end audio, he has been trying to talk me into selling them to him for years now.
Bose hasn't had anything worth owning since they quit building these monsters. I've been watching E-bay for two years hoping to see another set for sale, but apparently everyone who has them dosen't wanna let them go!

I am also writing a this to counter a poor review by "jeffer peefreely". These people get the chance to write something and post it on the internet and they go and write something pathetic like that. Anyway, My cousin has similar speakers and they sound very good, very loud and they are also very clear.
Older Bose towers, floor standing, and bookshelf speakers sound better than the new ones though. I noticed that the older ones produce a more acurate reproduction(flatter range) of music than the new subwoofer and sattelite configuration that is becoming more popular today(i prefer a little bit of midrange too!)

I don't know what the hype is about. Sure, it's a good LOOKING speaker, but they possess the Bose sound. There STILL isn't any high reproduction. Maybe this is due to the lack of real tweeter. There is no LOW bass, just a real thumpy midbass that tries to compensate and fails. This is a designer speaker up there with B&O concepts. However, the sound is 1 star. It cannot be greater than 1 star for 2 reasons. 1: It has cutoff to giant, critical slices of the audio spectrum. 2: It is GROSSLY overpriced for what it is.
It is NO DIFFERENT than if I were selling a Ford Escort for the price of a Lexus. There is NO COMPARISION in quality and performance, yet it is inserted at that high price point.
Bose is a gimmick, it is NOT fidelity.

Best speaker Bose ever made!!

Weakness:

average sound at best

I was called over to some guy's van and he claimed he had a set of speakers to sell cheap. I know what you are thinking, oh it is that good old White van speaker scam. I thought that as well, but I though I would at least check it out. It turns out that they were an old set of Bose speakers. They were sorta banged up and have seen better days. The guy ask for 250 for the set. After talking him down to 100 dollars, I loaded them in my car. I hooked them up and they work. Well at least I did not get ripped off. I recently bought an old Sansui 771 for 20 bucks at a garage sale, so I thought I would use the 10.2's with it. With some custom speaker wire( 16 guage zip cord with pins) in hand, I hooked them up and fired up the radio. The 10.2's and the sansui amp make a great garage radio set up. The sound it about average, it will not get any praise from anyone, but it does its job. I was using some old radio shack floor speakers but the surrounds were shot. The 10.2's are on par with the radio shack speakers in terms of sound quality. Not the greatest speakers in the world, but they sound better then the newer bose stuff.

I wish one of the 8" woofers was a 10" for even more bass!

I saw these at a local pawn shop and talked the guy down from $180 to $160 (including tax). I also bought a Carver m-400a (200 watts per ch. rms.) for $27 and these speakers rock! I put the amp on the preout out puts on my Harman Kardon AVR 30. I am running the H/K receiver amp on a pair of Bose 301 series II that I bought from a different pawn shop for $50.00
