Strength:

Wonderful high ends with just the right touch of bass - perfectly matched w/ an older pair of 501's

Weakness:

Heavy but we are talking real wood and great build.

What treasure's to be found when you least expect......found these (dated 1988) models last weekend at a GoodWill store with some minor bumps and bruises but mainly quite intact and without any close viewable speaker damage. Asked the clerk if they were tested and said that one had a flutter sound in the left woofer....he also said he would bring the price down from $49.95 to (some might not believe) $19.95!!!!! He even helped me restle them into our car and when back at home and plugged in my 300 watt Yamaha and with much trepidation.......Perfect, clear with nothing but that excellent quality that older Bose speakers give. Beautiful crisp acoustics and very nice bass that their products lack in their newer over the top technology. Still can't belive I found such a great pair of excellance in a trift store! Highly recomend them if you can find them...I did! as of now I'm now driving them along with a pair of 501's from the 70's and with great balance.

Weakness:

very heavy - porbably 40 pds. each.

A big Boss fan, I have Boss speakers dating back from the 70's (still intact) and run 501s newer / old in the basement and for my surround in the living room. I just been yesterday at a GoodWill whilst visiting and low and beholod, a pair of 10.2 II that had aprice of $49.99.......not able to test them I asked a very cool worker there if they had anything wrong.....he said one had a bad rumble but the set was being marked down to ...get this.....$19.99 Sunday but he would mark them at that price being that we where 40 miles away - got them home and NO rumble or anything wrong - eee gawd what a briallint sound with any flaw cranked w/ 350 watts from my Yamaha amp. Would recomend them to any adiophile! Crisp clean acoustics with flutterless bass that fits perfectly well with my older 501's.

Shudder to think what a great steal I got that has such a beautiful sound for pennies I spent.

Strength:

Tougher than nails......20 years old and still rocking

Weakness:

4 ohms pushes you to high end of amps

Bought four of them in 1987. Mine are not the II. They still look and sound great. The cabinets are as nice today as they were then. The formica or whatever tops have endured beer bottles, baby bottles, ash trays and who knows what. I have gone through several amps, mostly yamahas. Burned up the last one I bought HTR 5890, twice before I dug out my Bose 10.2 brochure and realized I was running 4, 4ohm speakers through the amps. Funny the first two amps lasted years and they were smaller Yamahas. Have now fired these babies up with Denon PMA-2000 ivr integrated amp with preamp. Just like getting new speakers.
These babies need power and lot of it. Have added powered subwoofer helps to pick up the low end. Wouldn't trade mine for anything.
Bought at a small stereo shop close out sale paid about a 1/3 off as I recall
I have 2 nephews who work for Bose. Both want me to will them to them when I die. They probably will still be playing. I have played them hard for 20 years.
Funny I never realized they were 4 ohms

Strength:

Becoming easier to find on eBay & Craigs.... I want to get two to use for the rear!

Weakness:

Can't think of any cept for the open ports (I thought I had blown a speaker only to find out the kids had dropped about 40 toys into the right speaker reflex port).
As noted earlier in these reviews the connection pins are cheap but they work.

Got one of these from my then girlfriend for Christmas and needed to buy the other myself.... She was great that way until I married her but this is Audio Review and that's another story.

Anyway, I hooked them up to a JVC receiver with 80W per channel (front) and some 501's in the rear (@30W) but kept blowing the rear output transistors. Audio was pretty good with excellent highs and mid-range and "nice but lacking" bass. Kept this setup for a couple of years without the rears but had babies so they saw little use. Eventually put them in storage where they stayed until 2000 when I decided it was time for an AV system with 5.1 surround. I researched here and decided upon a Sony STR-DE845 receiver, SA-WM40 (modified) Powered Sub Woofer, JBL S Center, and some generic (white van specials) but decent rears.
Like I said the bass was always nice but lacked punch until I added that sub not to mention 100W per channel (front & rear). Considering the costs involved I haven't heard another surround system as good for twice the price. The 10.2's put my audio all over the room with ringing doorbells, phones and footsteps having me muting the sound trying to answer each one.

Strength:

Outstanding soundstage. Teak hardwood cabinet Timeless design

Weakness:

None. antique...no longer produced.

The Bose 10.2 is a fantastic floorstanding speaker. I cannot believe the crisp highs and booming bass. I bought them in 1988 and have never let them go. These bad boys need juice! I never truly got musical clarity-- crystal clear highs and booming bass until I drove them with a Dynaco Stereo 70 Tube amp. That's only 35 watts per channel. They are rated at 180 watts per channel. The 10.2 (1988 & 1989 models)are monsters!

Strength:

Everything. I actually don't mine the heavy weight. It feels very solidly build.

Weakness:

Nothing

I purchased the 10.2 new, they were the first mid-high end speakers I ever bought. That was alot of money for me back then but I wanted a good pair of speakers that will last a LONG TIME and I wasn't disappointed. The sound that came out of these speakers when I first hook it up gave me butterflies in my tummy. I still use them for my main speakers to this day and see no reason to replace them. It's a shame Bose stop making them.

Strength:

Clean highs ,deep tight bass, real wood veneer, good height 39 inches.

Weakness:

Last true good speaker with real wood made by Bose.

I have listen and owned a vast majority of speakers through out my years of travel. I must say that the Bose 10.2 series 2 is by far the best speaker that I've ever had the chance of auditioning. For the simple reason is that Bose now days the company not producing consumer loudspeakers like the did pre 1994 and prior.Today's audiophiles really don't know how to audition a speaker. One thing that audiophiles should remember,is that no-one hears the same, and there's no such thing as perfect speaker every brand of speaker has its pros and cons. What the Bose 10.2 series 2,do for me that no other loudspeaker company has done. The 10.2's gives me a smooth grounded controled bass sound,a very clear soft upperd-bass,the tweeters r 2 my liking, me these r one of the better speakers that Bose have ever produce in their 4 decades of producing speakers.my personal thoughts in this order the 10.2's,601's,and the 901's r the best speakers that Bose have ever made. I pray that Bose really take timeout go to their roots of making speakers like in the past pre 10 yrs,and b-4.To today's date. There R some very good speaker compaines out there on today's market,Paridgm,Swan,Axiom,M&K,Jbl,Klipsch,B&W,Pinnacle,DefTech,Wilsons, and Bic.My closing remarks,in reference on the 10.2's if U ever have a chance of coming across these speakers. Please take time out and do yourselves a huge favor an take a listen? If U know to listen to and listen for with this speaker I think you'll N joy the sound. 10.2 driver's 2-8 inch drivers 1-8 inch woofer,1-8 inch mid-bass driver and 2-3 inch tweeters,2-2inch rear ports per speaker.

Strength:

Good, tight, natural sounding bass. Highs and mids very clear and crisp. Superior cabinets that look great.

Weakness:

Cheap clips for speaker wire not binding post.

When I first heard these speakers at the speaker showroom there was a pair of Carver Amazings Silver editions next to them . I compared the 10.2's to a pair of $3000 plus speakers and the Bose blew them away. The cabinet design made with teak veneers still has no equal to this day.I then went and purchased them from the WIZ using their beat any price plus 10% of difference policy at that time. It is like a peice of fine furniture so the wife acceptance level was through the roof.My main music listening speakers are Infinities now but I have the Bose 10.2's hooked to the stereo/tv setup in the Sunroom and they still sound good. Best product Bose ever made.
