The holiday season is upon us and these guys are trolling around the Penn Station area of NYC. I remember coming across these postings a few months back and was quite amused when the driver of a white Chevy Astro van (NC Plates ) was stopped at a light and asked if I wanted to buy some surplus high-end speakers. I brushed them off because I had a train to catch, but instantly recognized the scam.

I just wanted to give a sighting report and warn people in the area that they are here.

Strength:

They look like good speakers but haven't tried them yet.

Weakness:

I'm finding out now that I've been ripped off...

Well it looks like these guys are peddling their stuff here in the Minneapolis, MN area now. I just bought a pair of these speakers two days ago from two guys in a white van at the Holiday gas station off of Excelsior and 11th Ave in Hopkins. They showed me a display card showing them priced at over $900 each. They said that they had gotten too large a shipment and were trying to make some extra cash by selling them before they got back to their boss. I was going to get their number so that I could call them later on but he said that if they still had them when they got back their boss would keep them. I'm a DJ and could definatley use them and also was thinking that I could turn around and sell them for profit if I needed the cash back. And so I ended talking him down to $200 for a pair of them (My dumb ass even gave him another $20 on top of that feeling I was getting such a great deal). Well, I searched all over the web trying to find out just how good a deal I had gotten and now I find out that I was swindled by some cons. I haven't even tried them out yet. The guy said that they were self amplified which I found to be untrue when I open the box. I just figured that he was a dumbass and didn't know what he was talking about and let it slide still thinking I could make some bank selling them to a used musical equipment store. Well now I know who the dumbass is. I'm going to bring them over to my studio tonight and try them out. Hopefully they don't sound as bad as some of the people here seem to think. If you see them anywhere around Minneapolis try to get whatever information you can (license plates, names, phone#, etc..) and email it to me. I would like to track these guys down to get some kind of a refund (all my money back, and maybe a couple more pairs of cheap-ass speakers on top of that to not turn them in!).

Weakness:

ME buying the F#@$#%$ things!!

Well I'll join the list...
It happened to me yesterday. I guy "named" Larry approached me at an REI in Bloomington, MN and gave me the same BS story the rest of you have heard. I gave him $200 and drove off feeling great until now. I pulled one out of the box last night and hooked it up. JUNK! They may be worth about $80-$100 each but they are not the deal I thought I got! I should have known when I looked at the connectors and the paper midrange and lack of a post hole on the bottom -- if they are truely intended for "DJ" speakers.
I did manage to get his pager number which I am sure will turn out to be fake. I will be tracking this guy immediately. He was in a red minivan, had dark hair, 6ft tall, Oakley sunglasses, and a goatee.

Ok, I got ripped off too. We need to try to do something. I'm in Winter Park, FL (Orlando, FL) The guys said they worked for World Wide Sound in Melbourne, FL. I was from Melbourne, FL so that kind of worked out for them, cause they actually even gave me an actuall address in Melbourne of their business. My email is punkchance@hotmail.com If anyone has any info about any scammers in the Central FLorida area please email me ASAP. I'm only 19, and only bought the speakers cause I THOUGHT I could resell them and make some money since I need money. Well, I lost $500 instead. I'm really pissed off. That is A LOT of money. If anyone has any ideas on what we could do..set up some sort of website to organize getting this guys locked up, beat up, etc... PLease email me..thanks..if you have any info at all...email me..pleeeeease.

Strength:

actually has very loud tweeter, although low quality sounding.

Weakness:

they are just pieces of sh*t!

About 20 mins ago, I was on my weekly money order run to 7-Eleven for an eBay purchase when I pulled up to the parking lot. I was approached by a guy that came out of a white truck saying that he had 2 extra orders of this speaker and he had to sell them to me or else his boss would get p*ssed or some bullsh*t (this stupid board makes you search through your whole posting and remove all the profanity, how annoying). He showed me a fake pricetag saying $895 dollars which looked pretty real at the time. I only bought 1 cause I had almost no money on me. I paid only $60 + 2 12" subwoofers I happened to have in my trunk. They were brand new still in box!! I lucliky only paid $70 for the 2 woofers, so I paid $130 total for the 1 speaker, pretty cr*ppy. I am SO lucky I didn't have any more money on me! I'm 17, I just quit my $5.50/hour job at the movie theater (as if i weren't broke when I had the job, lol) and I have NO money. I left so f*ckin happy thinking I was gonna sell it on ebay and make at least $500. I was thinking about the new racing rims I would buy for my car. So I went home right away, looked it up on ebay to see what others were selling it for, and I saw it listed for $100 for a pair with NO bidders!!! I was devastated! I then looked it up on Yahoo and naturally came across this page. I am still gonna sell it on eBay to see what I can get for it. At least I am aware of these scams and will never get caught again. Oh, and what really makes me mad was I didn't even have enough money to buy my d*mn money order after that!

INFO ON SELLERS:

Van: White (I didn't really notice the brand, but i think it was a ford)
Guys: one guy said he went to some South Florida College. He commented on my Quiksilver t-shirt and asked if I own a dirt bike. (Quiksilver dirt biking?! lol) The other one just sat in the van, was very quiet, and didn't say much. I remember him having a Quiksilver hat on. (i'm a quiksilver enthusiast) The guy said I owe him cash if he ever sees me around again, trying to make me think I got a good deal.
Location: 7-Eleven at Teeca Plaza on Boca Raton Blvd (2nd ave) in Boca Raton, FL. If you live in Boca and have been scammed or have seen them, email me metallica_62@hotmail.com!!

Boka speakers... These were also kind of a scam. I paid like 35.00 for this "500 watt subwoofer" and it was this little tiny P.O.S. computer speaker with tiny woofer!

I feel for the exact same scam in Hammond, Indiana. Approached by two young males. The driver was taller and had a slight English accent, 20-25. The other was a skinny little f*cker (skinny enough so that my hand could ft around his godd*mn little neck). Was shown a catalog that looked legit and even a pink receipt. I Didn't have enough cash for a pair so bought one and agreed to buy another later. Was given a bullsh*t number. In retrospect I got what I deserved, but I still hate those two. I'd like to take this big piece of sh*t and throw it at their heads.
