Crappy speakers sold by people without conscience

Confession: I sold these for a day!

Must have been 15 years ago... Just out of High School I answered an ad for "commercial audio sales." I think it said something about selling soundsystems to nightclubs and such. Anyhow, sounded good to a 17 year old trying to figure out what to do with his life. I called and, without any real phone screen, the guy said "be at X address by X AM. He also said "bring a friend"... I did.

My friend and I showed up at the non-descript warehouse in the Washington DC area. The first thing I noticed was the fleet of unmarked white minivans out front. Next, upon entering the warehouse, I noticed hundreds... thousands of speaker boxes. These were all the same speakers. there was no other audio equipment. They were all marked "Atlantic Sound model XXX?" Anyhow, I still though this could be a good thing... "maybe this was the speaker warehouse and the amps, etc were someplace else."

The first clue I had that something was awry was the passing of the bong. Yes, this circle of 17-30 year old guys were firing-up before they hit the trenches. Even at 17, this struck me as a bit odd. Furthermore, it struck me as odd that they'd do this right in front of the 5 or so new "recruits." These recruits, myself included, were people they had never met or really talked to before. I though this to be an interesting way to start a new career.

I started asking questions re: the job, the equipment, etc. They were, of course, not answered. They all just said "you'll see when we get out there."

Going "out there" was quite the experience. Draftees were teamed up with an experienced driver and sent out to scour for sales. We loaded up the trucks and disbanded. As I was riding off with this driver I didn't know where we were going or what we'd be doing. I still assumed we'd be selling to bars, etc.

Finally, when we got to our designated neighborhood, the driver spotted a car and asked me to pull it over. I flagged the guy down and the driver got out and ripped into his pitch. I just sat there looking dumb... actually, I was in shock. I couldn't believe what was taking place. I was now ripping people off. Read the rest of these posts to get the pitch, speaker quality, etc.

Anyhow, as my car was back at the warehouse and we had travelled about an hour from there, I was stuck. I rode around with this guy all day. We would up selling all of our speakers.... I think twelve pair.

At the end of the day, the driver said he had cleared something like a thousand dollars. He gave me ~$200. Not bad for a day's work when you're 17. This pay was especially sweet since all I had to do was flag down cars and look dumb (I job that wasn't a stretch at 17).

At the end of the day, I was just too freaked out about ripping people off. I decided to bail on this career opportunity. Two months later I was earning ~$690 a month working for my uncle Sam. My buddy continued on with Atlantic Sound or whatever the company was called for quite a while. I'm sure he was earning my monthly salary every day. I wonder where he is now.

Great Sound

Weakness:

I wish I bought all of them

These have got to be the best speakers I have heard. I was about to buy a whole new stereo system when I ran into two guys. They had extra speakers (which I understood because I work for a delivery company myself) They wanted 500.00 for the pair. I was just pricing a whole new system which was around $3,900.00. So I thought I would use this for my old system in my bedroom. The guys offered to hook them up in my house before I paid. We got there and they sounded awesome ! The tall guy knew everything about systems. It turned out I bought all four and kept my old system cause it now sounded awesome !!!These guys saved me almost $3,500.00 . I have never heard a better sound in my home Ive got them hooked with my TV. We smoked a bowl together then they left. If you guys are out there I want to say Thanks Guys ! Keep up the good selling !!!!

Everything

First of all let me say that I feel sorry that so many people have been ripped off on this scam, but what do you really expect..
My story.. About five years ago I was working for a local Best Buy store in the St. Paul area. While working as an audio sales person I would often receive calls requesting information on these "Accoustic" speakers, but I had never even heard of this brand until a month or so later. One day I was coming in to work and was aproached by two white guys in a white full size Chevy cargo van. They attempted to sell me these Accoustic speakers although they would not take them out of the box, and did not have a demonstration model. They fed me some kind of line that they knew the truck driver that was delivering these speakers to a retailer. They said that the vendor had shipped more than the store had requested and that the truck driver kept the extra and sold the speakers to them. They told me that the speakers sold for $800 retail. I asked them where because I have never heard of the brand, they told me that they were only available in other markets (sure). As soon as I got into the building (this all happened in the parking lot) I called the police and told them everything. The police came and the van left. For at least one more year I received calls about these speakers and even had people attemting to return these to Best Buy claiming to have lost thier receipt..

Apparantly everything

Well, lucky me, I just got a killer pair of speakers for $220 on my lunch break. Or so I thought, until I got back to the office to check on my new purchase. I couldn't find anything until, behold, this forum. Looks like I also got suckered. Well, what can you do? As far as the dudes that do the scam--well, it sounds like a script comes with the dogcrap speakers, because it was the exact same schpeil that everyone else had, all the way down to the "gotta get back to the boss, but want to get rid of the speakers before I do." Punks. Oh well...

They suck

The only action we can take is to put the company "Acoustic" out of business. Enough of us have gone through this to really put a dent in these guys, and possibly get our money back. This is clearly false advertisement and someone is printing these lies we were showed.

Great scam story

I had been scammed like the rest with the same story 2 guys white chevy van. There has to be a great network out there can't figure out if cops have caught some of these guys why haven't they been nailed yet.
Honestly though I didn't think the speakers sounded that bad. If I'm not mistaken they are rated for 3 ohms vs the 5 ohms that new equipment uses. This could be causing people some of the problems I'm reading.
Didn't think I would let myself get the con job. These guys sound very convincing, man I wish I had wrote the license # down.

well guys, there's not much for anyone to do. just spread the word about these guys and hope for the best...
yep, hope for the best...
the best being of course these guys die as soon as this message is posted by some elaborate torture device like cutting their legs off while you stuff their bodies full of doggy doo until they choke as they see their legs bleed, and bleed... then when they're in hello down under, burning in eternal hello fire, satan laughs haughtingly through some wonderful acoustic 9901 speakers (let's hope satan resonates with some bass). also, have satan use their still pain-feeling heads as golf balls.
well, this is a lesson for us all, not fully known until now. this scam feels like having your balls served during a thanksgiving dinner, i know, but keep your head up and be a better person for it. know your role. THE ROCK SAYS!

WOW!!! I'm just like every other story here. These guys stopped me going down the road. Fake brouchure . . . the whole scam of their order was doubled by mistake . . . all the same stuff in every other review here. The good news is . . . you don't go to jail for buying these. They don't prosecute idiots for buying overpriced junk off the street. I paid $220, probably worth half that. What a scam. I knew better and still did it. Downtown Austin, Congress Avenue. They were sold as having a 300 watt amplifier built into each one. Those bustards!
