nice box, subs look like they could handle decent load if the magnets weren't so small

Weakness:

yeah i paid 260...they're in austin and san marcos in a black suburban or yukon...two other people i know have been approached before me (didn't say anything to me until i came home with em) i really wouldn't say that the con was that great. it sounded feasible but i just figured it was a weak cover for stolen stuff. in that respect i feel i got what i deserved.
honestly i've never taken apart a compression horn style speaker like that but my god, that magnet is paper thin!
i'm going to put in the crossover described by jim (thanks) and maybe replace the tweeters. i have listened to them some but don't have a system capable of driving these with any reasonable power yet so i can't really comment on the sound.
i am going to write to the PO box and make up some complaint to see if the company even exists. if it does, i believe that they hold a great deal of responsibility. sound is somewhat objective but i think they could be put out of business for false claims. all i know is that sunrise, florida DOES exist because the town has a couple pages on the internet. i'll post if i get a letter in return.
if you get the pitch, tell them to load up a pair and then take the f*ck off with em. they're worth zero dollars at least

Has anybody thought about getting a Private Investigator to get the persons Info from their license plate? I'm thinking about doing this and then paying them a visit at their house. I can't wait to see his face when I'm standing there on his front porch with the speakers next to me. I figure, hey if the cops can't do nothing about it, somebody has to!

To all you scammers, you guys must have no conscience whatsoever, you probably all sleep like babies at night. Hope you all achieved your lifelong dream of being con-artists and scamming peoples hard-earned money. Atleast I know what real sincerity means and you don't and probably *never* in your whole life will. You're negative actions will catch up to you in the end. You only get back what you give out in life and if all you're doing is scamming other ppl, there is nothing *good* involved there.

My roomate was hit up for these about 20 minutes ago in a parking lot at Home Depot. Luckily he called me so that I could look these up for him. The plate number here was WUV 45Y. Unfortunatly for this guy my roomate's father is a deputy, and the police are now looking for this plate.

A pair of fools are trying a similar scam in San Antonio, TX. However, these guys are bolder. They're calling all the Disc Jockeys in the phone book. The story they gave me was that one of the guys was in jail due to a DWI and needed bail money. I decided to research and thanks to the WWWeb and you guys' postings I'm getting off lucky and not buying them.
These fools didn't think about Caller ID, so I got thier phone number. Unfortunately, I don't know if they are the main scammers or some guys who got taken and are trying to get thier money back buy scamming others. IN any case, they are trying to scam DJs in SAN ANTONIO, TX.
I'll be calling the cops on these SOBs. If they turn out to be the main scammers, ... Chalk one up to us good guys.
If the police arrests these fools, I'll post it here.

Strength:

Still here after all these years

Weakness:

the $200 "mark-up" I probably paid

I can't believe this scam is still going on after all these years. I was scammed in 1989 for a pair for $300. It was funny cause I remember it completely, I offered $200 and the dude was reluctant like, "alright $200 each". "ummm, no dude $200 for the pair." And somehow I got up to $300. The two were doing the good cop, bad cop trick. My guys were only going to sell the first pair this cheap so they could get enough money for a hotel room to put the rest in so they could come back for them after work.

Anyway I get to my apartment all proud and begin to tell my roommate the story and he stops me after the first line and finished the rest of the story for me. DUMBASS!

The good news is that was nearly 12 years ago and I still have them (who else would want them) and they have been just fine for bedroom speakers. Just scratch off the AR sticker and pretend to your friends that they are something else.

Well pretty much the same story here...on my way back from picking up my lunch, couple of guys in a minivan pull up next to me and ask hey do you want some extra speakers for your house? I said what the hell let's take a look, pulled into a parking lot.
Gave me this story about them being contractors for some clubs and the client ordered 4 speakers and they got 4 pairs instead so had 4 extra speakers.
Wanted to sell 2 because he had $26 on him, came from Denver and needed to get a motel room to stash all the 'extra' speakers in so he could bring back 2 and sell them. Said that before when this happened they gave the extras to their boss and he kept them.
I was thinking hmmm so this has happened before? Yeah right.
So I look at the box, it says Acoustic 9901 and even has some cheesy 'cd audio' label on it. Showed me some paper on it which showed retail price and some fishy looking specs. I said I never heard of them and then he got kind of defensive and said they've been around for 25 yrs!!
He was saying they're 300 watts! I kinda rolled my eyes.
He said this is what they use in all the clubs and titty bars, blahblahblah. I said hmmm I've never seen these in any clubs I've been to.
He said they were worth like 750 retail each and the reason he asked me was because I looked like a cool guy who would help them out.
I looked in my wallet (I had about 200) and said I could give him $20 for the pair.
He wanted me to take a trip to the ATM to pull out more money, I said I didn't have time but he could leave them in my car and I would keep them for him so he could drop off the 4 ordered speakers.
I was curious to look these up on the net because they looked cheap and were very light and even carpeted. They did not look like $750 speakers.
To my offer he said no offense but I don't want to leave 3000 worth of speakers with someone he didn't know.
They were pretty persistent and the guy became belligerent and was like don't waste my f***ing time.
His veins were bulging and it looked like he was all drugged up.
Well instead of getting his ass kicked he decided to drive off. So I thought ok it's over.
His friend then came out as they were driving off and said come on man how much can you give us for them?
I just declined and proceeded back to work.
This is quite a clever scam I must admit.
