Strength:

Some people might think that they look cool, might be good end tables.

Weakness:

Distorted sound, very low efficency, crap high frequency responce.

A freind of mine bought these things off some guys on the street for about $200 Canadian. He thought they were a good deal and bought them without thinking. After looking at them, I realised that anyone who knows anything about speakers could tell they sucked by just looking at them. 125w power handling? With those paper cones? Yeah, right. I hooked 'em up to a Pioneer and a JVC reciver, in both cases they sounded terrible. In my opinion, my little $79 Altec Lansing 3 piece computer system sounds much better.

Strength:

If you can bargain, a fair deal at best

Weakness:

Poor sound by some definitions

Again, I'll repeat the white van story, but with a new twist. As I was getting in my car, a guy comes up to me from the obligatory white van and asks if I want to buy a pair of "big" speakers that he supposedly snuck out of the warehouse. I had a fair amount of cash on me, but not quite as much as he wanted. I think I had somewhere around $75-150 or so. I must have been the last sucker of the day, as the van was empty except for the two I was intended to buy. He wanted a little more than whatever amount of cash I had, so he said, "I'll take anything of value you've got". So, I rummaged through my stuff, and wound up giving him about five CDs that I'd paid probably $25 for (record clubs). He went off, and I went off on my way, and I guess we were both satisfied. Who knows. Anyway, I didn't have much of a stereo system then (actually all I had was the cheapest Koss system I could find--REALLY bad), so they didn't get hooked up for a while. When I did, I was actually pleased with them. They have an acceptable quality of sound, and though they distort a little more than I'd like, they're not bad for something to start out with. None of my friends know anything about audio, and for the most part they seem to think they sound pretty good. So, I guess I can't complain too much--I didn't give him any CDs that I really cared about, and the speakers haven't given me any trouble yet.

Would I buy them again? Probably not, now being a little older and wiser. They put out decent enough sounds for what I'm looking for right now, but I'll probably upgrade to something "real" once I get the time and money. Good enough for a poor, starving college student.

I bought these from a thrift store still sealed in the box. I read the sepcs and decided that this was a great deal. I brought them home and hooked them up. They sound great! This was the best I've ever had. Yes, They aren't the best. But they are more than worth a couple hundred dollars...

Strength:

I've seen some people mention firewood as being the only good thing about these speakers. I wouldn't even go that far.

Weakness:

They suck.

I wouldn't call anyone stupid for falling for this scam. If someone doesn't know anything about audio equipment and is unaware of this scheme, it's easy to see why some people fall for it. These speakers might *look* like good speakers on the outside, but try taking a look at the guts of these things and even my grandma could tell you they're
s%@t speakers. I see some people write that they sound good and are good speakers for around $200. LOL. Either these people are trying to comfort themselves about being ripped off or they don't have a very critical ear.

Lower class components, power handling.

Yes, I got ripped off. I bought the speakers in a parking lot out of the back of an SUV. And yes the "salesman" gave me the company line about a mistake in the warehouse. He showed me a brochure listing the speakers for over a $1000 a piece. In hindsight I really should've known better. When I was younger I did have a couple of really good systems. All seperate components. One was Denon based system with JBL speakers. It sounded very good. The I went to a Nakamichi based system with B&W speakers. That one was too good. Too good because every little defect in recording or system components was revealed easily. Then after selling it all I did not have a decent sound system for many years so I guess I was "rusty". I should've known better when the guy showed me the mid and high level adjustments. I have never seen a high-end speaker that had those. So yes, I was the fool who was soon parted with his money. I paid too much, $300 for the pair. One thing I can say after living with these speakers for a while and from reading other posts is that it seems the quality of these speakers varies greatly. The speakers I got have decent weight to them, about 45-50 pounds each. The cabinents are decent, about 1/2" thick. But when I saw the wire connectors that is when I said these are cheap! they are the same connectors you find on cheap systems. They are not binding posts which you will find on high quality loudspeakers. They are a spring type that doesn't hold the wire very tightly. The speakers sounded terrible when I first hooked them up. Very ugly sound! But after playing them for a while the woofer cone started to relax and respond quicker. They actually didn't sound so bad and even started sounding decent. I decided to make the best of the situation since I figured I'd never see that guy again and these speakers were definetly an upgrade from the SoundDesign all-in-one 1980's 5 watt system I have. I had been meaning to get a decent sound system for some time and this pushed me to do that. I bought an 85 watt Denon reciever and Monster cable. Combined that with an old but good CD player I had. I played with those cheesy mid and high level controls and speaker placement. At moderate to high volume levels they sound good. But they distort badly when given the full 85 watts. I had to play with those level controls to balance the sound. A sign of a cheap crossover. So they sound OK but low-end definetly. With a little work they sound pretty good but not great as they are presented to be. The guy selling the speakers is a con-man but I am the fool. I could've saved that money and invested them in high quality JBL's which sound much better to my ear. What are they worth? Retail probably between 2 and 300 bucks a pair not 2000! Like I said though mine do sound pretty good. It seems others were not made as good. I also learned a great lesson too which is worth the money lost.

It's Junk!

My brother had a friend I never Like. The other day my brother called me and said that that friend had the great fortune of running into some lucky speaker deals in a parking lot. That friend bought two pairs, one on behalf of my brother. Price: $300 a pair. And here is the punch line: My brother in a vindicated tone of voice said to me, "That's the hallmark of true friendship, that they think of you when good things happen." I referred my brother to this site ...

Not the best speakers money can buy

Overall I can say I am happy with these speakers. I got them from the "Van" also. I payed $100 each for the two speakers and thats about all they're worth. I use them on my high current Onkyo reciever and they crank pretty well. I don't think its fair to compare these speakers to speakers that cost $1000-$2000 each when you are only paying on average $100 each for them. Just remember.. you get what you pay for. And if you were dumb enough to pay $200+ for each speaker without hearing them first then you got what you deserved. When prices are compared... $100 for a speaker is very cheap.

HEHEH A Little Shady

The elusive white van strikes again. HEHEH. I'm a broke college student. $180 for a pair of speakers that play tunes loud and fairly crisp. At $90 apiece hell some clown could get drunk and take a leak on em and I could care less. Anyways they play the music and if you are like me and do not sit around with a meter running tests on your speakers they will do fine. As for the jokers selling them they are bottomfeeders dont listen to there pathetic attempt in the sales industry Look at the merchandise and form your own opinion. Just be sure to laugh at the Dumba$$ idiot when he tries to convince you that they are worth thousands of dollars. HEHEH For under 200 bucks for both I have not been disapointed

THE NOTORIOUS WHITE VAN STRIKES AGAIN. The white vanians claimed them to be worth a 1000 but wanted to get rid of em for only 350. After finding out it was a hoax I checked the web and concluded them to be worth 200 (from a store who offered them). The speakers aren't that bad so with an overall loss of 150 I feel partly ripped-off.
