These speakers are really REALLY bad! This ad is a LIE! False advertising!
12-inch Polypropylene Cone Woofer
(It won't let me say this word because it says it is bad, so I will type it differently so it will let me type it) H o m o polymeric polypropylene is no longer used in credible high-fidelity woofer designs. The magnet is also too small.

3-inch Ferrofluid Damped Dome Tweeter
Not - It is reportedly actually a 2-inch paper cone tweeter with a 0.5-inch voice coil, and a paper dome that is just a dustcap.

3-Way Crossover Network With Break Holder Reset Switch
Not - There are just two simple capacitors, which does not constitute a "crossover".

Power Handling Over 250 or 800 Watts
They will reportedly fail if fed more than 50 watts of continuous music. One examined woofer and mid-range were found to be only rated at 60 and 35 watts by their respective component
manufacturers. Of course, speaker power handling claims are always a bit slippery. You can safely connect these speakers to a "1.21 jigawatt" amplifier, as long as you don't crank the volume above
35 watts. One buyer reports that one of his speakers "cuts out during heavy bass".

Sensitivity: 96 (or 98) dB 1w/1m
No better than 89, unless you only count the +10dB excessive peaks in the response.

Freq Response: 20/35/43 Hz to 20/22/25 kHz
With no dB tolerance specified, one could argue that as long as they emit some noise when fed all these frequencies, that perhaps they "meet" the spec., but they don't deliver the response normally
expected when such claims are made. Further, the frequency response charts (if any) on the box often bear no relationship to the performance of the products in the box.

Made in USA
"Possibly assembled in USA from US and Taiwanese components"
would be more accurate.

Digital Ready
So are your ears, and in exactly the same way.

Q.Do these speakers actually sell for $2000 list price?
A.No, and the "list prices" claimed at curb-side vary from $1400 to over $2000 depending on how the sellers read you as a "mark". Other than for the Omni Sound branded products, there is no "list
price" (try to find one on the net or at any audio store).

Experts who have autopsied white van speakers and posted the results in netnews, indicate that based on component prices, the volume manufacturing cost may be around US$100.00 per pair.

This was a real rip-off. I don't know how much it is worth but I'm sure I paid too much for it. The sound is only decent and after opening it up, I have to agree with the previous posts that the components inside are not as advertised on the box. Mostly cheap components.

Strength:

Umm... loud?

Weakness:

Not for the refined ear. Or any ear.

Something inside me told me it was a bad idea, as I sat by the cash machine with a twitchy kid standing behind me. These guys actually drove me to my place in their white van. I tried the speakers. I turned them up loud and handed him the cash. Naturally, I've felt like an idiot ever since.

Upon later listening, I realized they sounded horrible at lower levels. They actually didn't sound good loud, either, but I thought for 150 bucks, I could have some parties and not worry about people spilling beer all over them.

And that's what they've done for me for the past four years. Two or three times a year, I dig them out and run a Hafler 500 through them for several hours at a time. Instant dance club. They've been spilled on, knocked over, sprayed with a fire extinguisher (cigarette on that weird cloth covering), and they still keep the party going.

I would not recommend that anyone buy them because of the way their sold, but if you come across a pair in a garage sale, pick them up for no more than $50 and give them to your angry teen. They look mean, and they're loud. And when they die, just throw them out. Or use the cabinets for plant holders.

Strength:

looks like "THE REAL THING".

Weakness:

snap, crackle, pop goes the woofer.

Someone I know owed me some money and could not afford to pay, after chasing after the guy for a month , we then agreed on him giving me the Acoustic Studio Monitor series
3311 speakers he had purchased only three months before.
I hadn't even heard of the name so naturally I suspected it was either a real good set of speakers or a real bad one.
I hooked it up to my Onkyo amp. played with the hi-lo speaker adjustments on each unit. and much to my surprise it sounded pretty good. I figured for the fifty bucks he had owed me i got my moneys worth. That lasted about two , or two and a half years. One night while throwing a party at the house, all of a sudden the one speaker started smoking and we all heard a really loud "snap, crackle. and POP" noise , there went my speaker...(and the party was just about over.}
I tried to get someone to repair it , as always, I searched high and low for an authorized repair station, only to find out that no one had heard of the brand name.
I then turned to the internet and discovered this site and what other series 3311 owners had to say about theirs.
I guess these speakers turned out to be a bad one after all. Well considering the fact that to me they were only worth $50.00 , maybe it wasn't such a bad deal. I'm just sorry I Igot rid of my B&O towers and kept this piece of junk instead.

Strength:

looks like a real speaker

Weakness:

total scam

"Acoustics" might be a legitimate company, but these speakers are commonly sold out of the back of someone's van for around $200. (with the seller claiming they're worth $1400 along with some reason why you're really lucky to get them for less.)

They're a scam.

They're total crap.

Weakness:

They Sound like they are in a cardboard box

I to was approached by two (can't take no for an answer) fellows in the white van. After repeatedly telling them that i was not interested they put a pair in the bed of my pickup and insisted i try them out. Before i had a chance to remove them they were writing my license plate # and demanding payment. This happened at 2:00 in the afternoon in a busy gas station and they started to draw alot of attention from the station manager. He looked to be calling the Police and when they saw him on the phone they left mighty quickly.Anyways no Police showed up(don't think he called) and haven't seen or heard from then sense. This was over 3 years ago,i now use them for leg supports on a homemade bench in the garage.

Strength:

Good bass

Weakness:

Poor highs. No info on speaker manufacturer.

I purchased these in Baltimore from a legitamate company (Luskins) that was going out of business. Another company (I don't recall the name), however was selling all of Luskins remaining merchandise along with some of their own. I never heard of the brand Acoustic (if that's the brand), but the speakers were on display and sounded good to me. The salesman showed me a booklet that showed the speakers listing for something like $750, and when I got him down to $200/pr, I bought them. I had these hooked up to a Sony pro-logic receiver, and then to a Yamaha RX-795 and thought they sounded good, and had no problems even at loud levels. After reading these other reviews, I wonder if they are the same speaker that others are complaining about. They have plenty of bass and numerous people that heard them also thought they sounded good. I recently upgraded to Paradigm Monitor 7's and they do sound a lot clearer, especially in the high frequency range, but of course they also cost 3 times the price. For $200 I think it was a fair deal. I just wish I could find more information about these speakers. If anyone knows anything, please e-mail me. It seems like I'm the only one that feels that these speakers weren't a scam, although I can't find anything about the company that made the speakers. I wonder if I got ripped off...but for $200, I doubt it.

Great sound, even cranking 700 watts from a Crest Audio Tour Class amp! I got em' free fom my mom (MEGA AUDIOPHILE!), free is good!

Weakness:

Crappy 2 Capicitor "Crossover"

My mom bought these at a yard sale 2 years ago. We originally had them on an old Sony, then on a beefed up JBL, and now I have them on a brand new Sony Dolby Digital amp, and I can run them at damn near full power. I have had them up to 2 inches of travel (main woofer), and I even set off my neighbor's car alarm. Surely, if these speakers were crap, they would have shredded themselves. I think that these are the best speakers I've ever used.

Looks like a good deal

Weakness:

NOT a good deal

So, same story with me...this time in Boston. I paid $500 for the pair. I'm a computer consultant, and one of the guys in the van even carried them up to the fifth floor of my office...nice enough guy. When we went back down I noticed that the other guy in the van got a ticket for standing (high traffic area). So....when they left, I did a search on the net and found this website!! I immediately went outside and found the guy who ticketed the van...he gave me the licence plate number and I called the police. Within 45 minutes of the deal, they had a look out for the plates. The officer told me they've delt with them a lot, but the speakers arn't stolen...if they find them again, I may be able to get them on false advertising (they showed me a flier for a value of $1200 each) Anyway, thought it was an interresting saga..THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO POSTED....i actually printed out the website and gave a copy to the officer.
PEACE!

Strength:

They are better than nothing.

Weakness:

They're not better than anything else.

Apparantly, I too am an idiot who got suckered.... I bought these from 2 guys in a white van with a wad of cash saying that they got these speakers by mistake and they have a little diagram that they use to make it look like the speakers run about $2500. I guess I should have thought to myself how good could they be if they were willing to part with 2 more of these great speakers for only $120? Oh well, I guess they will do for now.
