Strength:

DTS, zoom, component outs, cool looking start up screen

Weakness:

To noisy when playing a CD or DVD, no optical out, for some reason the signal is very low when playing it through a Pro Logic reciever, i have to turn it up to hear it at normal listening level, any clues as to why?

This DVD is great, it has excellent picture, great sound (When connected to DD or DTS reciver that is). I dont know what all the fuss about the remote is, i think its an ease to operate. I really like the enhanced black level and the way it lets you dim the front light to enjoy the movie without a distracting timer blinding you. I should have recomended this player to my friend who bought a Emerson DVD player, poor guy, he got ripped :oP

Strength:

Excellent picture and sound.

Weakness:

Of course, the remote just sucks.

This is undoubtedly one of the best products I've ever bought. uBid for $208.
However, I've had several problems with discs.
Happy Gilmore hung at the end, when he makes his shot over the fallen tower. Had to x2 past it.
Just got a movie called 'Six string Samuria' from Netflix (online rentals), and hung in several places. Couldn't even skip past it, had to go to next chapter. But, the movie sucked anyways. My Matrix runs flawlessly though.

Also, some discs have had weirds things happen, like a skipping and or a 2-3 second burst of French.
But, this has been with rentals from Blockbuster.

So, do I have that statistical 'bad' unit, or is it the discs? Is this at all common?

BTW, this has only happened maybe 5-6 times over about 20-30 movies. But, if the consensus is that I should replace it, let me know.

Strength:

Excellent player, excellent value. Paid $199 at my local Kroger foodstore, with $50 in store coupon.

Weakness:

1. Remote is confusing. 2. I have not been able to access foreign language tracks.

I am very satisfied and would definitely make this my first choice if I had to buy another one.

Remote (Tiny but adequate)
Weighs about 6 lbs. (build quality??)

This is my first player which I have owned for 3 months. I have viewed about 25 movies with never a problem. The zoom feature is nice as well as the auto power off. The picture looks outstanding on my 5 year old 27" Zenith. Sound is outstanding through my Sony STR-DB830. I love this player and feel it is one of the best buys out there.

Bought it as an open item at best buy for $204 with tax, picture quality seems as good my roomates sony 530 DVD Player. Having a bit of trouble with sound though, using a sony str 435, a prologic receiver, only have 2 speakers hooked up to it, but I have to have the volume pumped all the way up to play dVD's at a reasonable volume level. If I play a CD in the DVD Drive it plays fine, don't have to turn the volume half way up. Anyone have any idea what this could be? 4 STars for quailty of picture, 5 if the darn sound would work corectly...

I just bought the new 2109 DVD player. It is awesome. I went to 4 high end dealers who all use the new 2109 as their demo for dvd. Their is nothing else that even comes close. It makes my highly rated panasonic vcr seem well- like a vcr! Even in prologic I am hearing sounds out of movies like Waterworld that I never heard before. Ac3 and Dts is that much better yet. Of couse the picture is outstanding. I am connecting video with super vhs plug as my TV doesnt have the component jacks. My cd's sound just as good as my Sony es cd player. The Sony 7700 dvd costs a grand and isnt any better. The only drawback is the remote isnt backlit but i dont use it anyway as i use my mutltibrand remote. Panasonic is due out with the 320 to replace the 310 very soon so I cant comment on that one. But for under 300 bucks why buy anything else.

The long awaited fourth generation DVD player from Toshiba has arrived. The price point is at entry level, allowing consumers to enter the DVD realm with the least amount of money for the greatest amount of enjoyment. Just got this unit yesterday from Good Guys for $299 and an additional $40 for the only available digital coax cable they had, the Monster Interlink. Why the coax and not the optical you ask? For one, the 2109 ONLY has the coax output, a bit different from the CES press release in January. But it seems to work admirably nonetheless. The picture is sharp and not a single audio drop as reported on the earlier 2108 either. DD separated fluidly on my Yammy 2095 connected to an Infinity OVTR 1 system but the dts was awesome on the last cut on the Eagle's Hell Freezes Over. The remote is small and lacks a backlit feature (as press released) but when you feel like playing with it instead of just watching a dvd disc, there are three speeds of forward and back scan, three levels of zoom, an adjustable black level and the usual features standard on all similar units. So far I'm quite satisfied with this unit and would give it a five star rating at this price point. For the extra hundred bucks and another month to wait for the 3109, you can get the digital optical output, dual trays (for I don't know what or why), two sets of analog outs (2109 has only one set)and the fancier remote. At least that's what's advertised. Oh BTW buyvideos.com has it for mail order at $249. Enjoy.

Strength:

Good picture and overall function. Has plenty of additional features that are cool.

Weakness:

Noisy, kinda slow.

I actually was very impressed with this player at first. The picture quality is great, sound quality is good even with out a digital out. The zoom, repeat features are all nifty. however ever since i've bought it it has slowly stopped working. At first it would not play some cds. If i cleaned them then it would work. Occasionally it also would not reconize DVDs. Now I cant get it to play any music cds (about 1 out of 20 work) It still playing DVD's for now but for how long I dont know. I'g going to buy a cd changer now so hopefully I wont need a ned DVD player as well. I gave it 4 stars becuase for the price i paid it was great. However overall since it doesnt play cds i give it a 3
