Strength:

Great Picture Quality, Supports CDR(If you have the right media)

Weakness:

So far None

Okay,

I have had this player since beginning of this year. So far everything is okay. However, the player did skip badly on a movie last week. I had thought it was the problem with the disc, now I am not so sure.

From all the review here, I am very scared.

For Canadians here, how much did Sony Charge you to ship the DVD player in to be repaired?

I will be playing alot of DVD to make sure that this is not a problem with the player.

For now, I give it an Average Rating.

Strength:

Brand Name

Weakness:

It breaks after a warranty

Same story repeated with me for DVP-S560D model. Afiter 14 months, while playing a DVD, and while using the fast forward feature, I got C13 error. Tried to play the DVD after cleaning and got NO DISC error. Player now stoped playing any DVD/VCD and CD and gives NO DISC error. Sony representative denies the defect with the model and gave me estimate of $176 to fix this problem.
I have lost the trust on Sony and decided not to buy any Sony product in the future.
DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL!

Strength:

When it works, it works great. Good picture and sound.

Weakness:

Won't play DVD's over PG-13. Get the error message that you usually get when you try to play a DVD from another Region. Tried re-setting parental controls. It is now at repair shop. Repair person is waiting to hear back from Sony as to how to do a so-called "internal hard re-set" to change all programmed codes in DVD Player. I'm a Sony loyalist, but my confidence has been shaken. Sony customer service (phone and e-mail) was a joke.

Buy with caution and only if you think you can fix it yourself!

Looks nice

Weakness:

Doesn't work

In follow up to my C13 read error problems with the S560D - SONY are fixing it now, it takes 2 weeks. Also, if you have this player and you do not have the extended warranty then BUY IT NOW. You can buy the extended warranty anytime before your 1yr warranty expires. In Canada, SONY quoted me $US 38 for 1 yr, $US 56 for 2 yrs and $US 101 for 3yrs (guess they expect them to totally fail in 3 yrs). Also, when I took it in, SONY said it was because my disks were dirty - ya right - all of my disks! Even the brand new ones just out of the box! Anyhow, they did not admit they had a problem.

The other thing SONY said is they DO NOT RECOMMEND the use of DVD cleaners - the only way to clean their DVD's is with compressed air (the kind you buy in a can at a computer shop).

Anyhow, good luck everyone with your S560D's (and S570D's and many other SONY models based on what I read in Audio Review). Keep giving SONY crap - maybe one day they will listen - and vote with your wallet - don't buy any more of this SONY garbage.

Strength:

I thought the name Sony was a strong point until I started having problems

Weakness:

Player freezes and I get the darn C-13 error

I bought this about a year ago and thought the world of it. It was a great player for the price and the design went well with my other pieces of equipment. After about 5 discs played I started having the movies freeze up. It was like I hit the pause button. The problem progressively got worse until I ended up with the dreaded "No Disk" error. I plan to call Sony and get a replacement. Has anybody had any luck contacting them?

Strength:

I used to think Sony was a strength.

Weakness:

Not any more. Should change there name to JUNK or POS or RIPOFF

Its all been said in the other reviews. 14 months after using it - it died. Seldom used. I figured it costs me about $5.00 to watch each DVD that I have played through this. Not acceptable. No more SONY JUNK for me.

I bought this unit the same time as all my other equipment. And it is all Sony, from the tv to the surround sound system. No MORE SONY.

There "aint no zero's, I give you a one".

All the problems people are having with this player i have not experienced at all. In fact, i have not had a single problem with it. It works beautifully, both picture and sound, and functions like when i first bought it....which was a almost a year ago now.

Strength:

Worked good for a year

Weakness:

Did not work after a year

I was satisfied with this model for about a year, although I can say that it was only used occasionally. The day after the warranty expired, it broke down on me. Yep, the "No Disc " Problem. I did'nt pay $159 for this to get to use it for just one year. Sometimes cleaning the laser unit helps, but comes back after a while. I don't expect this unit to last me another year...I won't be buying another Sony DVD player the next time....

Everything

After 13 months of use the " NO DISK " error showed up. Contacted Sony support by phone (after many automated email responses) and the tech all but said, Too bad so sad. There are no plans to recall, repair, nothing. After so many players with the same problem I would think SONY would do something. Perhaps a class action lawsuit would wake them up a little bit.
