C13:00 error, "NO DISK" error, chapter skipping, eratic behavior, pixelated image, shall I go on?

Just like everyone else, it was great until about a month after my warranty expired. What a co-inky dink, huh? What bothers me the most is that I have stood by Sony for years (if Sony made toilet seats & tooth brushes I'd have them too...), and they refuse to stand by their product. You would think that they might be concerned about losing customers, but apparently they could care less. When I called Sony, the customer service rep almost had me believing that it was my fault! I would be happy if Sony would just acknowledge the fact that they messed up, but who am I to expect that? I'm just one of the thousands of suckers who got beat by a company that doesn't care about their customers. Imagine that...

Strength:

Not much

Weakness:

Unreliable. intermittent freezing, skipping, C:13 errors

I bought this product exactly 1 year ago based on reviews I saw here. Initially it was fine but about 1 month ago it started freezing, C:13 errors. I thought it was the Indian DVD's which were the problem. The Indian store guy was very nice he gave me a free DVD everytime I told him the DVD was bad. Then I noticed it froze on my daughters Disney DVD ( snowwhite) and also on a brand new Indian DVD which was taken out of shrinkwrap. The same DVD's were fine at the Indian store. I had egg on my face. Thank u Sony !!!
I did a google search and here I am. Just called the service center and plan to take it in tomorrow. My warranty expires 2 days from today.

Never had a pbm with Sony before. But this is unbelievable. So many people but no Sony response.

I will keep u posted on the service center details.
I am leaving to the Indian store to apologize.

Weakness:

To many to list do not buy this peice of junk.

What an absolute nightmare this product has been I am having the exact same problem it seems everyone is having the machine freezes at the end of the movie. I have had the machine in for service for over a month. The service center says they can not duplicate the problem. I have called Sony multible times they refuse to acknowledge the problem. I have writen a letter to the president of Sony I doubt if this will help. If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this nightmare please email at buddyz@yahoo.com

Weakness:

It doesn't work

I got the same C 13 errors just over a year after purchase. I can't say how shocked I was when I found this site and found this is a common problem. I will never buy a Sony again.

Strength:

Worked wonders until the freezing and finally "no disk" errors

Weakness:

Couldn't get 1 year out of the thing. Sony wanted to charge $220 to fix it

We really enjoyed the DVD player, minus the occasional skips and freezes. 8 months of use and the thing went bonkers. Wouldn't read a disk at all. Looks like we've had the same trouble everyone else has had with this model by Sony. Seriously disappointed, will not buy another electronic product made by Sony.

Strength:

Good picture quality while it lasted

Weakness:

C13:00, disk error, skipping, and hangs

Like many of those who contributed their complains about this product, I just wanted to let you know that this DVD player had great picture quality but a few months ago after the 1 year warranty expired it started to have problems like skipping and disk error. I thought it was just a dust problem so I loaded it with a DVD laser cleaner, but didn't help. And then last night it finally died, it will no longer recognize anything I load it with, even regular music CDs.

I bought it at BestBuy and since I trusted Sony products to be reliable, to my mistake, I did not avail of the extended warranty. I still brought it back to BestBuy and was told that the laser module had to be replaced and it costs about $100 and $99 for labor. That's like buying a brand new DVD player, and I that's what I would do next instead.

I learned my $284 lesson that is not to trust even the best brands known to be reliable.

Strength:

Fits nicely in the dumpster.

Weakness:

C:13:00 C:13:00

At first, it worked quite nicely and gave a great picture and nice 5.1 sound. Within a month or two we began finding that we were getting a lot of skipping and freezing after an hour or so of play. Then the C:13:00 errors started coming. Now, as we discard this P.O.S., it gives C:13:00 errors 19 times out of 20 when a disc is inserted. Avoid this thing like the plague.

Weakness:

It broke soon after warranty

Got a Sony DVP-S560D for Father's Day in June 2000. Worked well until September 2001, when it just decided not to recognize discs anymore...got the infamous "no disc" message. There was no warning or other minor problems...it just quit.

I went into the diagnostic menu on this machine and found that it had $150 to repair it?

Personally, I'm going to buy disposable DVD players in the future...

Thanks to all of you out there for helping me to realize, I'm not going crazy. This thing sucks. I use alot of sony Pro gear in my work, with few problems. However, after reading the last 20 reviews and wanting to throw my 560 against the wall for the last month Sony is now off my list.
