This is the worst DVD player on the market...stay clear of this on. It skips and then returns to the start of the DVD making enjoying a DVD impossible.

Same here. Just over a year old and all of a sudden, I'm gettin the C13 error message -- i'm going to check to see if my warranty is still in effect (probably not). Count me in on the class action suit!!!

Strength:

Good Picture, decent sound.

Weakness:

C13:00 errors. "No Disc" errors

I bought my player 11 mths ago and have encountered the dreaded C13:00 error many times. I thought I was the only one having thses problems till I found this thread and saw how many people had same probs. Funny thing is the earliest reviews from the bottom page are generally good till you hit mid page when I guess most people find out the player starts to act up. I also found that it doesnt read dual layered disc too well either. Stopping, pixelating, and/or jumping to random locations on the DVD. JUNK imho.
I don't think I'll be purchasing Sony products from now on seeing how they could've made this piece of junk; especially lower end products. Be very wary of purchasing lower end sony DVD players.....read up on reviews and do your research first!

Strength:

Worked great! -- AT FIRST!

Weakness:

Will not read any DVDs...

Well, I guess I'm joining the club.
The player worked great for the first 6 months or so. I then got satellite installed and since a recent storm, that has been on the fritz. So, last night I decided to go out and get rent some DVDs. At least I've got my trusty DVD player, right? WRONG! None of the disks will read. At first I was getting a C13 error and now every dis just gets the NO DISK error. At first I thought that perhaps it was the discs, since they were rented and you know how that goes. But alas, it wouldn't read any of my own discs, which I know are not dirty! Needless to say I'm peeved. The player has seen no use in the past 6 months or so and before that it was flawless. It's almost like Sony inserted some sort of self destruct device. And the cherry on the cake is - my warrenty expired a mere week ago. If anyone starts up a class action lawsuit against Sony, I'd like to be informed.

Like many other people who submitted reviews, I had no problems with the DVD player for the first 11 months. I took it in for repairs twice in the 11 month, because it started pausing for no apparent reason at the end of some movies. The first repair they changed some len, which didn't help. I took it back two weeks later and was told there was nothing wrong with it. Two weeks after my warranty ran out I got the "No Disk" error spoken of previously and have been told that it will cost $150+ to fix. I don't see myself buying Sony anymore.

Strength:

slim design

Weakness:

can't read any discs

Opened it up today to find the now famous 'disc error'. I have tried many discs and it only reads 'disc error'. (this means that you can't play anything!) I suppose the only thing to do based on others repair cost is to throw it away. Since this was a raffle item I do not have any recourse. Sad thing is that I am about to buy the Sony 40 inch tv. It is not right to reward Sony.

Strength:

Was a pretty good player, at first

Weakness:

Skipping, freezing, c:13, no disk, etc.

I have had the same experiences as the other posters here, so no need to flog a dead horse. I'm asking for a little advice: do I take the player back to Best Buy or to a Sony service center? I'm pretty close to both, so if any of you have had good/bad experinces with either I'd appreciate hearing about them. I bought mine in May of 2001.

Also, could heat be a contributing factor? My player sits on a shelf right above my receiver, and does get a little warm. I can move it if that causes problems. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

BTW, I replaced my original Toshiba 2100 with this unit because my Panasonic receiver has optical inputs which the Toshiba did not have.

Strength:

nice features

Weakness:

Quit working exactly 2 weeks after warranty period

I thought I was alone in this stupid Sony DVD player problem. Much to my surprise, this "no disc" / C:13 error problem appears to be epidemic. I am so disgusted, I doubt I will ever buy another Sony audio / video product. Their reputation for quality is tarnished in my opinion.
