Strength:

Good reviews when purchased, great picture/sound, & loyal Sony customer.

Weakness:

Works fine until 1 year passes.

Please add me to the lawsuit list. This was my first DVD player (DVP-S360D) and was very pleased with it. My player failed one week past the 1 year purchase date (and warranty) I also have been trying to sort out what was causing the C13 error (nothing left to clean) and went looking for a reason for the "No Disk" error online tonight. Luckily I found this web site. I see I'm not alone. In the market for a new DVD player. Thanks Sony!

Strength:

dvd has the great sony name!

Weakness:

it doesn't work "no disk" error. this is a faulty product and should be recalled no matter what the age of the unit..Listen us Sony.." you are not the only ones that make neat stuff anymore, try playing your quality card or loose business."

I bought the unit while I was building and entire complete sony home theater. the dvp-s560d was the first dvd player I'd ever bought and never understood why it would skip chapters, I thought it was something I had set wrong, the problem was a board I had to have replaced about a month after I bought the thing.. it worked ok for about 1 year until I started getting c0013 errors..and now the "no disk" error of death.. I have to replace this unit now and it won't be with a sony.

Strength:

Sounds/Looks good, when it worked!!!!

Weakness:

It's broke, after 9 months...

I was happy with this unit, even during the freezes... until
last night... The apparently all too familiar "NO DISK" message... I was amazed to see the amount of people having the same problem at close to the same time. I have a lot of other Sony equipment, but after this (The service center said too bad...) I will never buy Sony again... Given the size and reputation they have/had I can't believe they won't recognize this as a manufacturing/engineering problem. Come on Sony, recall this mess and save face.

Strength:

Good Video and Audio.

Weakness:

C13 error and jumping/freezing on tracks.

I bought this DVD player on SONY's name and on features. NOT GOOD. I have all sony video setup which worked great till this DVD player arrived...
My player still works, but on almost every DVD I get freezing problem. If I eject and re-insert then I sometimes end up with C13 error. Sometimes cleaning the DVDs helps, but it is getting worse. I find problem to be worse on non-hollywood movies. I think this DVD players laser has sever alignment issue.
Contacted SONY by email and got an auto reply..nothing more.
I believe SONY needs to take responsibility and restore it's name by taking care of it's customers.

Strength:

Good Picture/Sound

Weakness:

C13/No Disc

Same story as others: Skipping and C:13 error started to appear after 6 months, and finally NO DISC showed up and the unit ceased to function after 17 months. I Will definitely report this to the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org), hoping to generate some third-party pressure on Sony. Maybe somewhere a lawyer will listen.

Weakness:

As others a very weak product not worthy of the Sony brand name.

Being a big fan of Sony products 2XTVs,ES Receiver, digital 8 camcorder,CD-writer,etc.. I purchased it back in July 2000.

Within the 1st 6-8 months I got a visit from the C:13, skipping, image problems and no disc/insert disc. I took the unit back to a Sony Service Center waited over 1 month!! to have them address the problem (pickup component).

Now the problems are back. I'm out of the warranty period (just) and after talking to Sony Support (waste of time) am left with ill feeling towards the company and it's stand on quality products. They said I could pay the $180 to have it corrected with a 90 day warranty on that work. I told them that was a worthless option and why invest good money after bad.

I'm now concidering my options and looking for either a quality product that will last, or a very reasonable product that I don't mind the smaller investment once it's outside it's warranty.

If Sony had respect for it's consumers and want to keep us happy/loyal they better recall and correct this problem soon. As it stands I'll not buy Sony again and that is not just DVD players, Digital Camera, HD TV, DVD writer were all planned purchases that would be theirs, but not any more.

Strength:

It was great...for the initial 13 mos.

Weakness:

C13 error, skips, freezes and no disk message

I'll tell you what. I love the net. I was totally flabbergasted yesterday when this thing went haywire. I thought I was alone until I found this site.

Count me in on any suit or legal proceedings. Sony has lost another loyalist in me, and I'm spreading the word about this crappy piece of equipment.

Uh, it's black?

Weakness:

Reliability, durability and any other synonyms.

Same old story. Stuttering, the dreaded C:13, random jumps, freezing. Started freezing real bad so I performed the auto adjustment procedure. Now it doesn't work at all, no disc error. Stopped working about one week after warranty expired. I think Sony has a little calendar/clock in there and when you first turn it on it starts counting. When it hits day 366 the laser blows up. Sony is complete jerks about it too. They deny there's any reliability problems, but just look at this and various other models. Seems that other brands are having reliability issues as well. They probably use the same basic transport. Shame because I thought the picture quality was pretty decent. Oh well, off to the shop to get a new one, I'll tell ya this, it won't be a Sony. The short review: worse electronic device I've ever owned.

Strength:

Great picture and sound

Weakness:

Quality, 'NO DISC'

I too got suck into expecting top quality equipment and support from SONY.

It work great for 18 months, not being used very much. Then one day with no signs of anything going wrong got the "NO DISK" message. Called support and they were no help, was told it would cost $180 to fix. Now I'm shopping for another DVD, but not SONY.
