Strength:

None, now that its dead!

Weakness:

C:13 Disk of Death syndrome

Wow! These units are dropping like flies, including mine!

Man, that's just too bad too (for Sony) as I just purchased a PS2 and a new 675 receiver -- both of which are GOING BACK!

That's a shame -- It looks like I should have bought the Onkyo (which of course, I will now!)

I gave this such a poor rating since one of the factors is longevity. If I have to replace my DVD player yearly, that to me should hurt its rating!

Strength:

Picture was nice & the DVD player compact(which is probably the problem, no fan to cool internal electronics.)

Weakness:

Weaknesses? C:13 & the no disk problem.

Weaknesses? C:13 & the no disk problem what else. It started in November (2 weeks ago) 4 months after the warranty expired. Funny how things break after a year (it always happens.) What if the warranty card said the warranty covers 3 yrs or 36000 dvds played or which ever comes first life would be good & I would still be a 100% loyal customer. I am buying a Pioneer or Panasonic next definitely not a Sony. What a waste of $300.00 especially when I use Sonys broadcast quality Digital Betacam players & you can see the "Sony" quality of those $40,000 machines.

Pioneer DVD player which we use at the office (by the way its still going strong.) Guess what I an buying next.

Strength:

Sony name (or so I thought!)

Weakness:

Very short lifetime, poor warrenty coverage

Well, Sony got me on this one as well. At just under one year my player has also started having problems with C:13 errors and it just can't get throught a dual layer disk without stopping, pixelating, and/or jumping to random locations on the DVD.
I "was" a big Sony fan with many, many Sony products but spending $300 for a product with less than 12 months of usefullness is just nuts. Paying $150 to repair it given the current prices is also nuts.
Sony has blown it big time with this. They are going to loose a lot of business. I will be 'tilting at windmills' by complaining to Sony directly and through Planetfeedback, BBB, and forums like this.

Anybody else notice that the complaints on this forum went through the roof a few months ago? Back in 1999 - early 2001 most people liked these players.

Strength:

Successfully nabbed Sony $350 of my money for a defective product.

Weakness:

My own gullibility for thinking Sony had quality products.

And to think I actually thought my DVD player was just dirty!

My *wonderful* player is about 1.5 years old, and worked like a charm for the first year of it's life. About 4-5 months ago, it started freakin on me during the middle of a movie...it only did it once...but slowly progressed to the point where i can't watch a movie w/o it freezing up or completely stopping 7 or 8 times. I considered taking it in to get fixed....but I don't think it would be worth my time or money. Come on, I can get a decent new *non-sony* player for what it would take to get it fixed. Of course, I will be taking appropriate steps -- contacting sony, depending on response - filing with BB, and watching for a recall. But I will never own another Sony DVD player.

Strength:

For a year or so, it will actually play DVDs

Weakness:

Only good for a year.

I really hope I can disuade someone from buying this pile of trash. I had this fixed with about a week left under the warranty. They repaced a resistor. A month later, the dreaded c:13 error. And this is with new discs right out of the box.
Based on some of the other reviews I have read here, I seriously suggest looking at other brands.

Strength:

super crisp video, excellent digital and dts sound transfer and decoding

Weakness:

skipping, digressing, chapter searching

after about 8 months, failed to read new dvds without problems...skipping, digressing, chapter searching...c-13 and finally "no disc" no matter what kind of disk went in to the player. I am totally disappointed in Sony. I took my player back to Best But today and they shipped my player off to Sony for the one year parts and labor warranty. Im fortunate I guess compared to most of the posters here. But I will be watching Sony closly to see if they completely rectify this shameful situation by issuing a recall. If they don't, I will blatantly refuse to purchase another Sony product. ADVICE!!!! GET YOUR DVD PLAYER IN BEFORE YOUR YEAR IS UP!!! OR PURCHASE A 4 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY IF YOU CAN!!!YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!!! THAT"S A GUARANTEE!!! CMON SONY!!!! GET IT TOGETHER!!!

Strength:

When it works, it's great.

Weakness:

Player intermittently stops playing DVD's. I thought it was a media problem. However, same DVD's work on other players. Furthermore, the player doesn't stop in the same place. It is a design flaw. Poor error correction.

Design flaw. Bad product. Will never trust Sony name again.

Strength:

Good features, and Good picture......until the C 13:00 error

Weakness:

Only lasts one year

I just wanted to add my name to the list of very unhappy Sony DVD users. The player worked great for the first 9 months, then I started to notice freezing. I thought it was just the disk. Then last week the C1300 error, and no disk message started. Again I figured it was another previewed dvd, but then I started to read these reviews. Unfortunately I purchased it just over a year ago, and no extended warranty. It still works for some dvds, but usually doesn't make it through the whole movie. I am just waiting for it to die on me, like everyone elses I've been reading about.

If anyone has any news or information about how to fix the problem without having to pay for it, or info about a class action lawsuit, please email me. Thanks

Too bad for Sony, they just lost a future customer who is about to purchase a reciever, speakers, and a new DVD player.

Strength:

none

Weakness:

No disk errors.

I stared getting no disk errors 8 mounts after purchase. Now a year later it will not read any dvd or audio disks. I did not over use the unit, I only played about 10 movie disks over the past year. Also, alot of chaper freezing and chapter skipping, even when using a brand new dvd. I got screwed with this purchase, we need a recall on this item.
