Strength:

Played DVDs

Weakness:

C13 error started about 1 month ago around the anniversary of the 1 year after purchase; today it failed completely witha no-disc error.

I still use 12 year old Sony products; no problem there. But it looks from this piece of junk I am stuck with and the various threads going on, that Sony's qulaity has been going steadily downhill.

Strength:

Looks good, but..............................

Weakness:

won't play DVD's and CD's 85% of the time and counting up.

I posted here last July and this player is literally on its last leg. No matter what we put in it, new or older dvd's/cd's, it never failes to freeze or skip. We also keep getting the dreaded C:13 and no disk messages. Looks like we all got taken by sony on this model, and yet I hear they still have not taken notice to such a wide spread and consistant problem. I smell a lawsuit brewing.

Anywho, I just orded a new Denon Player after test driving one at my local audio store, and have gotten rave reviews about it. Of course, I wouldn't pay the store's outrageous price($1200.00), thus I went on-line and found it for more than half the aforementioned price.

Looks like quite a few folk, including myself will be leaving sony in the dust.

Poor quality

And I thought I was the only person with the C:13 error...
Ha!

Well, like all of you, I have it too. There is something wrong with the drive unit and I will take part in any class action lawsuit, so count me in as a supporter.

Hello,

I talked to Sony service center today and I found that they didn't recognize this problem. They asked me to send them fax of receipt(already warranty finished 3 months ago) to extend my warranty but they seem to extend only warranty for part.

So, I am going to collect information from you who have C:13 error and No disc error in SONY 560D DVD player. I am not the right person to file lawsuit to Sony but I will collect information and handover and help if there is someone to file. At least, we can talk to Sony with collected information.

Could you send me these information if you want to join?

1) name (if you don't mind)
2) e-mail (it should be real to be contacted.)
3) When did you bought?
4) serial number(it is on the back of the player)
5) When did this DVD stop with No Disc?
6) Did you fix it? If yes, how much did it cost?

And, if you know any other good site to post this message, please let me know or just post this. My e-mail is vestago@mac.com.

Thanks

I can not BELIEVE what I am reading. I am thankful I am not alone. Out comes the C:13 code only a week ago, then some freezes here and there. Today, "NO DISK" - Bye Bye DVD Player !! After 18 months, and (of course) no extended warranty, we are S.O.L. ! Maybe an executive would like to come to my home and explain to my 2 year old son why he can't watch Shrek on DVD. No worries, Sony lost my business in the future and we are pushing for a recall, or perhaps a class action suit. Happy Holidays Sony.

Strength:

Looks great, and when it works---great picture and sound

Weakness:

Same thing as everyone else---C13 error, skipping, runs hotter than a Pinto in the Arizona Desert

OK...After reading the other reviews, I'm considering myself lucky. My player is crapping out on me now (C13 Errors, skipping to beginning of chapter/beginning of disk, picture freezes, etc). However, I'm lucky....I've had the player 10 and a half months!! Yes, it's still under warranty. Hopefully I can get it repaired....then it'll fail, then I'll try one more time...then give it to my kids.

I think I might have lucked out because the Navy bought Sony in bulk, and my player might actually have sat on the shelf for sometime.

For my fellow Military members...AAFES and NEX all have Pioneer and some have Denon. Do not waste your money on any Sony product...Pioneer is costs less and is a better product.

Ok thank god I'm not the only one to have this problem with the sony. I must agree with everyone on this thread. Sony s560d model sucks. I got the "no disc" error and the c-13 error after just 6months of use. I even sent it back to get it check and they said there was nothing wrong with it. No more sony dvd players for me.

I have the same C:13 problem everyone else has described. It started just after the warranty expired and initially I though it was my disks. But now it can't even play brand new disks. I haven't called Sony yet, but I am going to try today. If any thing positive comes out of it I will let you know. I rent VCR tapes because I have no faith it will work.

Strength:

Great Value, Solid All-Around Player, Doesn't Lack Features

Weakness:

Sound is only accpetable.

I have to say that I believe we were on the early end of this unit's production and have not had ANY problems after years of hard use (I believe we rented about 120 DVDs last year and own a substantial library). I have used this unit outdoors in damp conditions for a nighttime "deck theater" and have not experienced the least bit of trouble (I am still puzzled by the other reviewers who all had problems). The value (overall features and quality per dollar) of this unit is tough to beat. For people just getting into DVD the unit packs all the pre-requisite onboard decoders for dolby digital, etc. Sound is just a little bit dull for me, and I've tried it through several receivers/amps, often with a dedicated CD player running through the same equipment (even my "watch me not care" friends noticed a difference).

Having said all that, I recently picked up the NAD T550 DVD player. It has few features relative to the Sony, but overall video and especially sound (even out of the box w/o burn in time) has been a welcome improvement. I still would say that this is all the DVD player that 95% of people ever need at a very reasonable cost.
