Wow, i started hating my sony dvd player almost the day i got it, glad to know im not alone, this page is like a support group for people who have yet again been given the shaft from a major electronics corp.
Ive been using sony products for years, my reciever, my cd player, speakers, camera, tv, etc. I purchased this dvd player with confidence, Sony prodcts have always done me well, but not this piece of junk.
13:00 errors all the time, it has nothing to do with the disks, ive played them elsewhere and they are fine.
Like an idiot i did not fill out the warranty, thats why i always bought sony products, you did need to wory about the warranty, they were tough.
The year i got out of my dvd player is exactly 6 months more than i got out of my mavica camera, guess whats wrong with that, C 13:00,
My brand loyalty has ended.

Strength:

5.1 Digital Decoder on-board, component video output, optical output, low-profile design.

Weakness:

Suspected optical failure, long loading time, no mp3 decoding

I purchased the DVP-S560D thinking it was a superior product above the other consumer electronics DVD players. It had many features and full capability with my existing home theater. Within several months of owning the DVP-S560D it started giving me the C:13 error and eventually the "no Disc" error. It didn't matter if I just unwrapped the dvd or it had a few minor scratches on the disc.

I am currently attempting to have the unit repaired by a factory authorized sony service center, but very seriously considering eBay'ing the Sony when I get it back, in favor of some of the higher reviewed products.

System generates a good image, but often gets hung up with marred disks (i.e. the typical Blockbuster junk). It has broken down twice (gives "no disk" message when disk is actually inserted and ready to play). The first time was out of warranty by 2 months, and cost $90 to repair. The same failure occurred again two months later. Much worse reliaility than I'd expect from a Sony product.

Weakness:

C:13 + "No Disc" problem + Customer Servise

Absolutely the same scenario as already described by many on this site.
I bought the 560D primarily for its brand and compatibility with the other Sony products. After about a couple of month it started skipping and freezing. Unfortunately I was thinking that something wrong with the rental discs, but then it just stopped recognizing any discs at all.
I have called Sony customer service. First of all they told me I can ship it to them for a repair which will cost me more than $200!!!!! When I asked them about the warranty they send me to Sears. Meanwhile, the warranty had expired.
I will never buy another Sony product and will avoid buying electronics at Sears. I think Sony has to be taken to Court.

C:13 error on any DVD even brand new ones

Crap. Can't even get through a DVD any longer. I get the C:13 error every time. I bought it on 1/6/01. Sign me up for the class action suit.

Glad Sony doesn't make a car or airplane.

Will not buy another Sony.

Strength:

Good picture and sound. Thought the Sony name would be one.

Weakness:

Tits up after fifteen months- deadly no disc. Sony customer service - phone push button of hell

If you see this model anywhere - run away. I thought like many that the initial skipping and freezing were problems with the DVD and not the player since they were so inconsistent. There are a lot of DVD players with similar features and the only reason I went with this model was due to the Sony Name. That name should be easy to avoid in the future.

Strength:

Good picture quality when it works

Weakness:

Does not recognize many DVDs. So it is nothing but a $250 CD player now.

This device worked nicely for the 10 motnhs. It is almost as if the player knew when the warranty was up. Started getting "C13" errors. That is when i do not get "No Disc". Even when i finally the DVD to work, it would stop after 2 to 2.5 hours. It seems to have problems mainly with DVD movies that are more than a couple of hours in length. I guess these would be what are called double layer DVDs.

Bought the device for the Sony name. What a shame. Never ever will trust a Sony product. Amazing how a bad product turns one sour to a company. What is amazing is the lack of acknowledgement of the problems from Sony. There are rumblings of a class action here on the review board. Count me in if there is one.

Dual S-Video outs, component out, features

Weakness:

C13 Error; skipping, freezing, erratic behavior

Have had this DVD player for almost a year now. At first I was very pleased with the picture, sound and features. Then a few months ago it starting skipping disks (see previous review) and at times the dialog would go out of sync.

Later on certain disks completely froze with the dreaded C13 error.

Possible Fixes
Thanks to the reviews on this website I'm not going to even bother to waste my time by trying to get Sony to fix it. So while am saving for a new player have discovered some possible interim fixes.

Lipsynch problem: Restart the disk from the beginning.
Skipping chapters: Clean the disk with a soft damp cloth and retry.
Freezing/C13 Error: A cold boot seems to solve this problem --so far: Unplug the player and restart.

To date these little fixes have worked so far and to date I've not encountered any more skipping and freezing.

Will update my reviews as I learn more. Good luck !

It worked about about half a year.

Weakness:

No long works. A $240 + paper weight.

Well, I don't have to tell you what happened. I wrote sony about 4 days ago hoping they could help, but they did not write back. Now I know why. They were too busy spending my money after selling me this junk. I been screwing with this DVD the last three days. Cleaning disks, running the lean cleaner. Trying different connections to my Phillps amp/tuner. I guess I should of came here first. The day I bought this piece of crap I was about to buy a Pioneer, but the guy a best buy steered me to this piece of crap for less $$$.
