Strength:

Dual Rca Video and audio outputs, Sony quality video reproduction, built-in decoder, S-video, and component video outs, and more...

Weakness:

No digital zoomm, doesn't play CD-R's

I have to say that I purchased this DVD player almost two years ago, and I hyave to say this is probably the best purchase I could've made(besides my KLIPSCH speakers). It's quick on the load up, very quick on the scene changes, I have never had a problem with it reading any of my disc, I never hear it working, and the picture quality is absolutely astounding. It seems to me that this product became worse down the line of production, but for me, I have NEVER EVER had a problem with it. I wish I could help those that are experiencing faulty problems. The only possible thing that I would suggest to try is to clean the "Laser" but that is about it. Good luck on the repairs and happyu listening.

Well, I also received a "NO DISC" error after about 6 months. I returned it to Circuit City and they repaired (good thing I bought the extended warranty). Now I am getting the C 13:00 error. Still plays DVD's now, but what lies in store for me???

Strength:

Great DVD player when it works! The volume on the remote actually works with my SONY receiver...

Weakness:

Froze up, C:13 error message then /'No Disk', and there is a website like this where hundreds of people are very upset with it!!!

Like the last hundred and fifty reviews of this product, I too owned the DVD player for around 14 months (barely out of warranty). I've played very few movies on it, I take good care of it--rarely turning it on. It is in a well ventalated cabinet...

It froze up one night. I currently am awaiting on an email from the Sony tech support, but judging the previous reviews it won't do much good.

I'm waiting for a recall or a class action suit...

In short, by a cheap panasonic -- it works, no stress, and disposable!

Everything

After 13 months of use the " NO DISK " error showed up. Contacted Sony support by phone (after many automated email responses) and the tech all but said, Too bad so sad. There are no plans to recall, repair, nothing. After so many players with the same problem I would think SONY would do something. Perhaps a class action lawsuit would wake them up a little bit.

Everything was great for about a month then...

Weakness:

The dreaded C:13:00 and NO DISK problem. After about a month of no problems, the DVD player has problems reading my DVDs which I can't watch at all. If for some reason it does play, it freezes up and gives me the C:13:00 signal.

As I have been reading the reviews on the SONY DVP-S560D, all I could do was nod my head in agreement. I have been having the same problems with the dreaded C:13:00 and the NO DISK problem. Prior to seeing this website with all of these comments, I thought the lens was dirty and went out a bought a lens cleaner. Now I know that there's a problem with the DVD player itself. Luckily (or unluckily) for me, it's still under warranty and I'll try to have SONY fix it for me. If there's still a problem, I'm going to buy another brand. Anyone have any suggestions?

Look at my earlier review

The dvd player froze on me for the second time in 13 months and had missed the one year warranty by a month.

I took Ken advice (Thank You Ken). Talked to Sony Customer Service Personnel on the phone (The number is on the sony website). Told them about this site and about all the disappointed clients. Told them about my expired warranty. They gave me an event number and asked me to go over to the auth. service centre for an estimate. The agent asked me to ask the auth service center to call her back with the estimate. Now California law dictates that (??) one need s to physically inspect the problem and give an estimate which would cost ~ $49. I called up Sony - and told them that I am mailing it to thier own repair site. I sent it in the packing (Thank God I had saved it) with the note with my details, problem, event number taped to the dvd player so that it does not fly out. I also wrote the event number outside of the package and sent it out in priority mail with acknowldgement (costs you 35 cents extra but you have the proof that Sny has received it). Then Sony Service Center gave me an estimate of $176 for the repair (The best mid range dvd player Toshiba SD2700 COSTS $159 incl of S&H at OneCall.com - They are an authorised dealer of Toshiba on the net). I called up Sony Customer Service and told them about the estimate. They gave me an Accomodation Number and said that Sony will pay for it :) I called up Sony Service Center and gave them the accomodation number. I should be getting my DVD player back by this weekend (15 days turn around time).

This DVD player model might be a lemon but I had a very good human experience with Sony on this repair / warranty expired issue. Try to stick to the same Customer Agent you talked to - It worked for me. This Agent returned a call in 15 minutes.

You guys have a great day ...

I had the same problems others have mentioned: "c:13 error", pixalating, freezing-up and jumping back to the begininning of the disc. After finding this website and seeing others had posted this was a common problem, I called Sony. They said take it to a local authorized Sony service center and it would be repaired for no charge (I was still within my 1-year parts and labor warranty).

After 10 days I got may unit back. The service ticket says "replaced optical assembly" part number A-6062397A.

So far it's run perfectly for a couple of weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it to keep working.

My unit stopped working 1 month after the warranty was up. Is this planned obsolesence or what???? I got the same error message as everyone else here. I had planned to asked Sony for a replacement, but from what I've read here, I won't waste my time. No more Sony's for me!!!

No disc error,C:13:00 error and slipping tracks

I Purchased Sony DVP S560D DVD Player in
July 2000.After 8 months I started getting problems with the DVD Player.
It will get stuck in the middle of a movie and give a C:13:00 error.I
tried cleaning the discs but it happened for even brand new disc. Then it
started not recognising DVD's.It will give no disc even when DVD's are
present. Since it was under warranty at that time I contacted the sony
customer service and was asked to take it to a sony repair center
nearby. After waiting a week I got it repaired and it seemed to be
working fine for a while. Now after the warranty is over I find that the
problem has recurred and is so troubling that it gives C:13:00 error and
no disk and it is now impossible to watch a full movie with this
player. Checking out this site I noticed one funny thing the problem seems to start only around the time the sony warranty expires! Isn't that just great!!!
