UPDATE** 1 year and running smoothly. I must have lucked out! So far so good, thing''s have been going great since the day I bought it. No complaints here, but I will keep you informed. Good luck with the class action suit, hope you get Sony to open up their eyes and own up to their mistake! Cheers!

I usually don''t write reviews, but I just found out from searhcing all over the Web that I got a lemon DVD player. The "NO DISC" error seems to be real. I am hoping that SONY either recalls this overpriced DVD player or someone starts a class action suit. Back to doing my research. No more SONY for me.

Weakness:

Most break after a year of use; what else do you need to know ?

I just wanted to add my name to the list of people''s whose Sony 560 died shortly after a year of use. Good luck to any current owners. Anyone looking to buy a DVD player: STAY FAR AWAY FROM SONY! -John

Strength:

9-10 months with plus features

Weakness:

first time it locks up it''s as good as TRASH. or 11 months. (which ever comes first)

TRASH!! I had the unit for several months working fine until the Freeze up. I just thought is was a dirty dvd. Then it got worse and continued with even BRAND NEW DVD''s. OOohh Hellll NO!! My fiance purchased the unit Jan of 2001. It is now Feb 2002 and is currently in the shop. If they say it cost anywhere near $150 to fix it, they can keep. It''s not even worth it. I''m in search of a new DVD player ....any suggestions??? Bottom line...This DVD player is good until that first pause/freeze/screen lock up(what ever you wanna call it). Then after that....TRASHHH!! Trust me..and everyone else who are trying to warn you. 12 month warranty...13 month lifespan.

Weakness:

stops working after a year.

I''d just like to add my name to list of disastified S560D owners. After just over a year of use, I got the exact same C13:00 error everyone else has gotten. I tried using the lazer recalibration from the programmer''s screen that someone posted, but it didn''t help at all. I would stay far away from all Sony DVD players; as you can read from this board, the S560D has a life expectancy of less than 2 years. who knows how long their other players will last. Strength:

great up until about one year and problems arise. Good features.

Weakness:

Obvious flaw with skipping, freezing. It seems to start about 12-15 months into the player''s life. Same thing happened to me.. and I am frustrated. This is my first DVD player.. and up until now, it was a great purchase.. but I am thinking I got screwed now.. and not happy about it.

wow. I just started reading theses posts.. and although a couple of people here seems to be ok.. the overwhelming population is having the EXACT same problem I am having. like 90%.. Let me assure you... I have NOTHING against Sony.. I understand that problems arise.. but, this is an OBVIOUS flaw in this player.. because I am having the exact same problems.. and almost to the exact month.. about 12-15 months in. for me, it started when I one night rented the DVD for O Brother... right near the end.. the DVD skipped the final chapter.. I totally blamed it on the rented DVD then.. periodically, I have had more problems with brand new DVDs.. nothing yet made me think it was the player.. until about the third or fourth time.. I started wondering.. and I notice that many times, it seems to be at the END of the DVD.. does anyone else notice that too? it''s not that way all of the time.. but sometimes I can play three of the four shows (say the Sopranos) with no problems.. and then bam.. it starts near the end.. and it''s over at that point.. I cannot watch any of the rest of the DVD.. it seems to be getting worse with time..and the posts here only make me think that will continue.. I have the second season Sopranos DVD.. and it has been UNBEARABLE trying to watch it.. some discs work ok.. while others just freeze.. jump and skip.. and have a hard time tracking.. tonite, I was trying to watch the final episode.. and it won''t even track.. so, out of frustration.. I searched on-line to see if there were any problems with the player.. similar to mine... and behold.. I came across this site.. and I am amazed. this is EXACTLY the same problem I am having.. and now, I am PISSED. let me say, I am not out to "smear" Sony.. I have other Sony products that I am perfectly happy with.. but again, something is obviously wrong with this product.. and tomorrow, I am going to start looking into finding a way to get a refund for this.. or have something done.. b/c this is unacceptable sony.. you need to start writing these people (myself included) and apologize and find a way to fix this.. a recall.. some solution is needed.. do the right thing. Recall this player. thanks

I Purchased my player 08/31/00 at Circuit City, on 08/11/01 it stopped working. The player has had all the same error codes as everyone else has experienced, started with picture freeze, then C:13:00 error and finally NO DISK, the first time it broke it was still under warranty by a few weeks, took it to local Sony service center where it was repaired within a few days, laser pick up assembly was changed. After a service the warranty is now 90 days, 3 weeks pass the warranty the unit went down again on 12/04/01 with the NO DISK error, after hours on the phone and a irate consumer letter to the Sony Response Center they agreed to repair the unit, under the condition I send it to the service center in Fremont, Ca. I received the unit back 3-4 weeks later put unit back in entertainment center ready to watch new DVD''s I received for Christmas, Guess what unit came up with the NO DISK error, it was like I never sent it out for service, get back on phone to Sony a few days later they had UPS pick it up, this was the first week of the year 2002, today is 02/13/02 still have not received unit back yet. I''ve been w/o my home theater for over 2 months now, because of a my DVD player, here''s the topping on the cake I had bought an Apex DVD player as my first player, took it back a couple of weeks later and spent an extra $200 to upgrade to Sony. I''ll never buy a Sony DVD player again, all my other Sony products I have never had any problems with, your right about the Sony Response Center they all play dumb when you ask them if there is a history of problems with this model. Count me in for a law suit. Robert

I am really suprised by all these negative reviews...if i were paranoid enough, it would seem as if there was a deliberate smear campaign agsinst sony going on here! I have owned this product more than 15 months and i have yet to have a single problem, not even one! Machines are machines and yea some could go wrong, but that does not mean that the SONY brand is useles...jesus...what r u guys thinking...its one of the BEST out there!

I have had the same maddening problem with this DVD player. It played really well when I first bought it, with an occasional temporary freeze -- not enough of a problem to warrant servicing. But then it completely died in month 13 of my ownership of it. I briefly saw the C:13 message and now all I see is NO DISC. I have tried to contact Sony to get some justice. I happen to be a lawyer who is not afraid of suing them, if necessary, on principle. So far I have gotten a lukewarm response. The service person with whom I spoke claimed that she was unaware of a widespread problem with this machine, which I found incredibly difficult to believe. I encourage everyone who has had a problem with this machine to contact Sony *and* post messages on this website and others (for example, epinions.com). The more of a record we build, the harder it will be for Sony to pretend that this machine has no design defect. If others want to contact me directly with their own experiences with this model, feel free to email me
