Strength:

When it works, it works beautifully

Weakness:

Doesn''t work...

Just had this "C 13:00" and "No DISC" error crap start yesterday. I am extremely upset with this. I could understand if it slowly went bad as sometime components do (like VCR''s) but mine just died in the middle of watching a DVD (actually special features of one). Of course, this all happens after the product warranty expires. I believe I bought the extended warranty, but I recently moved and I can''t seem to find the papers anymore!!! I strongly encourage all of you to not only call Sony and argue with customer support about this but to also write to the email listed a few posts down so we can all be heard at the same time!! I can''t say I''m entirely optimistic about this whole thing, but I seriously hope that Sony will at least offer free repair at it''s service centers for this problem. I know I won''t pay 188 bucks to repair a $200 player!! I hope none of you will either!!

Strength:

Worked great for about 3 months.

Weakness:

Being produced by Phony. I mean Sony.

Same problems as everyone else. 13 months old and C:13:00 then onscreen digital boxes, freezing, jumping to previous scenes. Finally, when a DVD is loaded, I get the infamous NO DISK or INSERT DISK. Thanks Sony, for joke. I should say JUNK.

"SONY RECALL PETITION" I am writing this message about my dvp-s360 and its vast problems, this applies to the sony dvp-s560 as well...as i have read we are all in the same boat which is why i have organized a group to do something about it, i want everyone to send me an email about their problem and contact info, just an email address or your name, redundancy is very effective, so if you think others have already written you still should definitely write...HERE IS THE EMAIL ADDRESS SONYRECALL@hotmail.com ...this address has been made to compile all the statements of each and everyone of you...enclose a contact address, or i will use the email address you send to me...i will compile all the emails about your problems with the dvp-s360/dvp-s560 and i am going to make a case out of this...all of these emails will be directly sent via registered mail to sony''''s front office and we are definitely going to see results, i''''ll see to it...let''''s get these emails sent quickly so we can get this problem fixed asap...we can do it...send your name too and/or anything else you think will make OUR case stronger...thanks...somehow, everyone''''s sony dvd players are resulting in c 13:00 and NO disc errors at around the same time...this is not by chance. Something must be done, let''''s get together and make this work. Thanks.

I bought this dvd player as my first piece to a pretty decent system that I have put together over the years for a poor college student. It was working fine for the last year and a half or so untill a month or two ago. Now I can watch about half of a movie then it starts flipping out. I could fix the problem if I could get ahold of the service bulletins and a schematic, so if anyone could help me out with that I would be greatly appreciative.

UNRELIABLE!! 13 month product

Had the unit for 16 months with little use and the C13 error, then the dual layer error, now No Disc error. Did the calibration and fixed the dual layer error then 2 weeks layer, NO DISC for everything. My future was read by these reviews. Contacted Sony, after 3 people & holding for toooo long, they would take $30 off repair of $188.00. What a deal.

Strength:

Looks like the rest of my sony gear.

Weakness:

Doesn''t play DVDs ;)

I have experienced the same C:13 problem as all of you with this badly manufactured device. I am very upset at the way Sony has handled this and would expect that a company with such a respected name in electronics would be quick to rectify an obvious mistake. In any case, there is evidence that this problem is known by the manufacturer. The following information may help people either seek compensation from Sony or repair their unit themselves. I plan on trying this repair on my unit, but am awaiting the parts, so I have NOT tested these instructions. You may do so at your own risk. I would appreciate an e-mail if anyone tries it before me. In any case, it does confirm that Sony knows about the problem. Maybe it will help you negotiate with their customer service department about a free repair. There are two Sony Service bulletins regarding our problem: MDP0068 and MDP0069. Among other things, the bulletins state that the fix for this is to replace surface mount fuse F402 by a short (i.e. jumper wire) and surfance mount resistors R416 & R418 need to be changed from 150K to 82K (part # 121684411). Check resistance between pins 21 & 22 of flex cable to optical pickup assy. If resistance is less than 6 ohms, replace pickup. Note that surface mount soldering is not for the inexperienced. Ground yourself AND your soldering pen. Use a LOW HEAT pen (nothing more than 10-15w) to do the repair. If you are unsure you can complete the repair, take it to someone who can. Otherwise, you may overheat and ruin other components. I hope this all helps. Please let me know if it does or does not. I am trying to obtain actual copies of the service bulletins which I plan to post for everyone. I hope I am able to provide some help to others with my same problem.

Depressing to look at!

Add me to the unhappy customer list! If anybody''s had luck with any other fixes besides calibration, please post it. Mine still has the jitters. Check http://www.agoraquest.com/viewforum.php?forum=37 for more support. I would love it if someone could email me the schematic.:)

Strength:

Worked fine for a year.

Weakness:

Almost useless now

This player obviously has a design defect. Mine worked flawlessly for about a year and then started locking up at random or stopping and going back to the start of a movie. At first it was intermittent but has become progressively worse. Sony should step up to the plate and offer full refunds or free repairs.

Strength:

A very nice paper weight Excellent for target practice. Incredible dust magnet.

Weakness:

A lousy DVD player.

Worked great for 6 months. After that, the skipping started. Soon to follow was the dreaded C:13 error. We all know what happens next, "No Disc". Fortunately, it was still under warranty. The shop replaced 4 fuses. 3 months after I got it back, we are now going through the skipping again. And how convenient.... the warranty has expired. Does the term "engineered obsolescence" mean anything to anyone?
