Strength:

Fits on shelf in entertainment center

Weakness:

C:13, No Disc, Emg stop, no help from Sony

It's a relief to know I'm not the only one.

Product summary: caveat emptor.

The DVD player worked fine for about 3 months.

After 3 months, it started displaying the C:13 error
message. Cleaning the disks and 4 or 5 cleanings of
the laser lens (with 2 different types of cleaning
disks) would usually get it started again.

At the beginning, I thought the problem was due to
defective DVD disks. After returning the movie disks
for replacement several times, it became apparent that
the player was the real problem.

The player performance has continued to deteriorate.
Now, 17 months after purchase, it takes 45-60 minutes
to get it started, if it starts at all. Pixellation,
emergency stops, C:13, jumping, and No Disk errors occur at any point during play.

E-mailing Sony's Customer Service produced lots of
automatically generated responses; it appeared a
human was never reading them. The final e-mail said to
take it to an authorized service center. Since the
warranty had expired by this point, it would have been
completely at my expense, so this just wasn't worth it.
Repairs would likely cost more than a new (non-Sony) player.

Strength:

easy to use

Not much to say about this machine except it's a solid performer at a very good price. Haven't noticed a picture softness problem, but then I'm still running the video on a composite cable. I had a Sony 330 for short period of time, waiting for the 360 to come in, and I can say that the picture is noticeably better on the 360, its also quieter. It plays The Matrix without problem and has no lip sync problem. The layer changeover is slightly quicker than the 330, noticeable, but not disruptive. The machine is very
light, and when I press the power button on it, it sometime moves in the rack.

My Denon AV Receiver had the Sony DVD's preprogrammed on the remote control, so I can use that RC for daily use. The Sony RC looks like it integrates well with Sony TV's, and that may be my next upgrade. It functions well, is easy to use and is ergonomic, however, will probably use the receiver RC for daily operations.

I paid $259 at a retail store (Audio Buys) in Virginia.

Strength:

Outstanding sound. Remote control.
Very good sound. Remote.

Weakness:

Output levels too high (composite video, s-video, audio)

I was astounded by the sound quality. Much better than my Yamaha CD player and Pioneer Laser Disc. Also better than the Pioneer DV333 unit I had tried and returned ( DVD sound was OK, but CD sound was horrible with the DV333). Picture quality does not match my Laser Disc player, but lowering the contrast, color, and brightness on my Mitsubishi 31" direct view TV made this player shine. I also had to lower the pre-amp audio input level on my Denon AVR-3000 (can be adjusted by +-6db) for the analog audio to get the great sound I've mentioned before. Initially, the signal was causing distortion at high levels during Dolby Pro-logic playback, and once in a great while during straight stereo playback, but after the tweak, everything sounded GREAT!!!

Strength:

Value for Price, Component out, Sony quality

Weakness:

None so far

Read here about Sears internet matching, here's the deal:
Yahoo Shopping, search for item (any electronics), print out ad, bring to sears, they match. Also through 3/31/01, Sony $50 rebate, I found for $180 internet, then used the $50 rebate.

DVD sounds incredible, especially at $130 value. I now have a home theather in my basement, on a budget:
Recr: Pioneer V509S (costco $200)
DVD: Sony DV360
Front Speakers: Cervin Vegas
Surround Speakers: Boston Acustics
Center: Infinity CC2
Works great, sounds incredible, but then again, I'm just a casual listener.

Good luck.

This DVD player came highly recommended to me from an audiophile. He was right, this player is fantastic. This is my first DVD player so I really have no frame of reference but I love it. I would recommend it to anyone. I would also recommend buying it from a reputable dealer - one that stands behind the product for a period of time and allows for refunds (within a time period) regardless of reason (NOT CIRCUT CITY).

For +/- $250, you can't beat the quality!

Strength:

It is a Sony, need I say more?

Weakness:

Along the lines of ALL Sony products, the remote needs serious review. The menus are convuluted and Sony-ish, but acceptable.

You can play CDRs with this, all you naysayers. Just make sure you get silver CDRs. If you want MP3 playback, get an MP3 player. Quitcherbitchin.

Strength:

Great picture, sound, until the things goes belly after a year

Weakness:

It goes belly up after a year!

I was very pleased with my purchase for the first year, then errors began to creep in until finally it would not recognise discs. Shame really. Nice machine, but I have problems with reliabilty. I expect more than one year of enjoyment for my 250 dollars. Past Sony erquipment has lasted for 10 years!

Don't know if mine was the same year as all the people having problems or not. So far mine has played flawless. No complaints here.
