Strength:

Looks good, every kind of output, and it WORKS!!!!Not made by Samsung or Panasonic.

Weakness:

None so far.

I looked in to this DVD player for a long time, Because you have to watch out, alot of DVD players out there don't work right. I was sick and tried of sales men trying to sell me Hitachi, Samsung, Panasonic, and Yamaha. Just so you know Hitachi DVD players are made by Samsung DON"T even think about buying either. And Panasonic's are great but if you want a Yamaha don't buy it because it's a Panasonic except you pay $100 to $200 more than a Panasonic. The only difference is the caseing it comes in. Anyways I have a Samsung DVD player too and I only use it as a second CD player because you can't watch any movie with out it skipping at least 10 times. So I bought the Sony 360 and it played a movie I have that is in such bad shape that I was going to throw out because it would not even load in my samsung or even in my friends panasonic, but guess what it played it in the sony 360 not only that it didn't even skip once. So if your looking for a DVD player buy this one because if you don't you'll be returning what every you buy in a week anyways, so save your self that second trip back to the stereo store, and get the Sony 360.

Strength:

It plays DVDs (not a joke); price; has every output; build quality; slim with small footprint; I happen to like the remote and find the menu a breeze.

Weakness:

Doesn't really work as a CD player: Music sounds a little harsh (btw sony advertises 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A conversion but will only output 48kHz from the digital outs), and it won't even play CDRs; Labor warranty only 90 days; Not entirely silent.

I wanted a cheap DVD player. I have several friends with RCA's and they all seem to love them, so I bought a 5215.
And then exchanged it because it wouldn't play half the time.
And then returned the second one because it wouldn't recognize ANY of my DVDs (not to mention 5 minutes of disc spinning made the unit too hot to touch).
Like I said I have 3 friends with this exact model and 2 more with the previous model (5220) and they all swear by them. Guess I'm just lucky. Anyway, I went back out to look, this time doing lots of research. I came down to 2 models: the Pioneer DV333 and the Sony DVP360. The Pioneer looked ugly and felt really cheap. The sony looked slick and felt solid. Also I've had good luck with sony. The fact that target was selling them without rebate for $200 didn't hurt. I decided to try one.

I've been very happy with my purchase. So far this thing hasn't let me down. It plays every DVD movie I stick in it. It even plays an (ahem) import copy of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" without the skipping problems my buddy was having on his RCA 5220.
I'd like to comment on the soft picture issue. I ran this thing head to head with my buddy's RCA 5220 on a 27" Samsung model 2768 via S-video. The picture was slightly softer on the sony than on the RCA. I then ran it head to head with my fathers panasonic DVD player on his Toshiba 27A40 via component video. We couldn't notice a difference, tho on a 27" with the time it took to swap... who knows. My point is the picture isn't fuzzy as many have claimed.
If you're using an s-video connection and your picture is very soft, try upgrading your cable. S-video cables achieve better picture quality by seperating the chrominance and luminance portions of the video signal. But then packages then into one small cable instead of using seperate cables the way component conections due. It is possible poor picture quality could be caused by inadequate shielding INSIDE the s-video cable. If anyone has any opinions on this please feel free to share, my email is sage11x@earthlink.net.
Anyway, the Sony is great. You'll want to buy a seperate CD player if you plan on listening to music. $100 will get you a nice sony 5-disc with peak search (if you're like me and still make tapes). My only other gripe is the slight whine it makes early in play. Originally I had the unit behind glass doors in the bottom of my cabinet, didn't hear a thing. But my reciever is down there too and things were getting a little warm so I decided to place it on the shelf above my tv where its open. Much better besides the whine. Oh well, I'll take that over the jet noises I've heard some others make. Hi Jeff. :)

You won't go wrong with this player.

I put up with my Samsung player for years. I finaly ditched it after its refusal to play Gladiator. This Sony unit plays everthing my old unit had problems with. For $200 there isn't a better player.

I wrote the previous review. I just received the $50 rebate check from Sony today. So, in all fairness, I must upgrade the value rating of the unit from 2 to 4.

Weakness:

Quality

I managed to get such a great price by using a combination of different discounts that 800.com was offering at the time. Too bad I didn't get the great deal I thought I had. I've had two different players, and both of them went back. Now I am stuck without a DVD player till I can figure out which one I want. Well, anyway on to the review.

The first player I got was DOA. The power button assembly was floating around inside the case. This was not shipping damage. Glad to see Sony quality control is on the ball.

Second player arrived in working order. Too bad it didn't work very well. Pisture was OK, a bit soft as many others have noted. The problem with this one was the sound. Unfortunately I do not have a DD decoder, so I was forced to use the audio outs. The sound was great, when it wasn't making these snap, crackle, and pop noises which made me cringe every time I heard it. These noises were totally random, and although not very frequent, were pretty damn loud.

I wasn't stupid enough to try a third one. Screw Sony.

On a positive note I cannot say enough good things about 800.com. Their customer service is top notch. They got me the second player within two business days, and paid for the return shipping charges. I would not hesitate to do business with them again.

Strength:

Dolby Digital, DTS. A/V, S-video, AND Component outputs. OK remote. It looks awesome. Has virtual surround sound, and many other cool features. Excellent picture and sound.

Weakness:

No zoom, remote not anything great.

I have had this DVD player since the day after Thanksgiving.
Since I first took it out of the box, by the way it felt and looked, I knew i was in for a real treat. Setting it up only took about 5 minutes and was pretty easy. The first DVD I watched was Jurassic Park and the picture was amazing.

The remote is pretty cool, not the best I've seen though. If you are looking for a great DVD player under 300 dollars, get the Sony DVP-S360, it's well worth every penny. I give it a 4.7 - 4.8 out of 5. If you have any questions about it, you can E-mail me at SnakeEyeJP@AOL.com

Strength:

Slim design. Excellent remote. Price.

Weakness:

Doesn't play CD-R. Noisy.

I love this DVD player. At this price point there is no better player on the market. And why pay more for built in decoders when your receiver probably already has them?

This player has almost every feature you could want. True it does not play CD-Rs, but very few DVD players do. You have to really search for one that does, and most that do are poor quality, except for maybe Pioneer.

The remote is excellent and well laid out. The menus are well laid out and easy to understand. The slim design allows for an easier fit with the rest of your components. It has played every DVD I've thrown at it. My only complaint it the noise from the spinning disc. Sometimes at low volume I can hear the disc spinning from 8 feet away.

Strength:

It Is A SONY, Very Sleek Design, A Bunch Of Great Features
That Are Easy To Use Via Remote And The Price For Such A Product, One Must Say Is Resonable.

Weakness:

Don't Know Much About The Zoom Feature That It Does Not Have
But I Haven't Missed It Yet, So No Weaknesses So Far.

Well, I Guess I Am Lucky Because I Read These Reviews After I Bought My Sony 360DVP. And If You Take A General Overview
Of All These Reviews You Whould Notice That The Player Is Indeed Top Of The Line, Most Gave Above Three Stars, It Is My First DVD Player And Hookup Took Me About 15 mins. From Box To Showing The MATRIX, It Was Also Easy To Hook Up To The Stereo And I Use My DVD For Movies Only And A Sony 50+1 Cd Bookshelf For Music And Audio On The DVD. Oh And As For The Noise Factor I Can't Hear The Disk Spin Unless I Mute The Stereo And Stand With My Ear six Inches Away

Strength:

Flawless video performance, superb scanning, brilliant remote control

Weakness:

no Progressive Scan, but at this price, who cares!

If you can live without progressive scan outputs (for example if your TV doesn't have the correct input jacks), you cannot pay another penny on a more expensive player and consider it well spent.

The Sony 360 produces a superb picture. It has among the best fast scanning capability I have ever seen. Smooth, clear, and easily controlled. The remote is absolutely fantastic. It gives you intuitive control of the player without dmanding anything.

Strength:

Weakness:

No Zoom but who really cares anyway when you zoom you lose picture clarity.

First off I no its dumb to have 4 dvd players in one house but the more the better i guess. My first experience with this player was that i bought it at best buy first then when i brought the player home it wouldnt play any dvds and would always say insert disc or no disc when there already was a disc in it. So i planned to exchange it but i lost the receipt so i decided to just buy another one at circuit city and keep that one (which worked) and put the defective one in the box and luckily they accepted. Well anyway the dvd player is great at every aspect. I highly recommend to anyone.
