Strength:

Good Video Playback

Weakness:

Quality - died after 10 months of occasional use.
ONLY a 90 DAY PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY. One year for parts only
Does not recognize CD-Rs

I purchased this DVD Player about a 10 months ago along with a Sony Projection TV. I used it infrequently during this period. I was pretty happy with it's picture quality and audio during this time. The player has now stopped recognizing any DVDs or CDs. I took it to a local Sony Service Center and was quoted a flat rate of $128 to repair, since labor was only covered for 90 Days!!! Needless to say, I'm looking for a new DVD Player and it won't be a Sony!!!

Strength:

Price, All the hookups you need, extra features

Weakness:

tray noise

Bought this player as an open box item at CC, plus the rebate, and a month of free DVD's, so I couldn't complain. I have it hooked up to a decent JVC receiver and Yamaha speakers, and have been loving it since I got it. True the picture is somewhat soft, but still much clearer than any VCR or TV signal you'll ever see. The spinning noise is noticeable, however, I have it in a closed entertainment center so I never hear it once I shut the glass doors - no big deal. It has consistently played all the movies I have ever put in it including the standard "test movies" the Matrix, Abyss, ID4, and have never had anything but quality playback without glitches. The audio has been outstanding, and the DTS really does increase the quality of the audio. Thumbs up on this player.
I have seen movies on a Toshiba, and a higher end panasonic, and this player truly looks and sounds as well as those. I am not usually a Sony fan, but they did a nice job, don't know what to tell the reviewers that gave it bad marks. Mine works great.

Strength:

Simple to setup, use, and compact. Very basic and that's how we like it. Less to worry about component breakdown.

Weakness:

None so far.

I recently bought the Sony dvp-360. So far, inspite of some of the review comments, my dvd is quite and very easy to use. The controls are very simple and the picture quality with my Sony KV36FD26 is veery compartible. Not sure if the $70 Monster cable made any difference, but we like this dvd. I hope this dvd will not breakdown in 8 to 10 months, otheerwise I will think differently about Sony's quality merchandise.

Strength:

high number of outputs, plays well, no skips at layer changes,

Weakness:

none that I have found yet

I researched my dvd player selection and came down to the dv-333 from pioneer, toshiba 1600 or the sony s360. I disliked the toshiba because it only had coaxial output on it. It then came down to the pioneer and the sony. I've owned pioneer products all my life but... the only reason I went for the sony is the fact that it had more connections, and would allow me to upgrade later when I get a new tv. Also I didn't need the cd-r, cd-rw read capability because I own a pioneer 6 disc player.

Menu:

Setup was easy and very intuitive.
Also you can access the menu from the front of the dvd player which is quite a nice feature.

Remote:

Quite nice, it fits the hand, it would be nice if it was backlit but who really cares, once you've had this dvd player for a while you should be able to use the buttons, just like you know where they are on your tv remote.

Player features:

It has quite a few features and it will play every disc I've thrown at it so far.

MI-2, gladiator, gone in 60 seconds, matrix, and none have frozen yet.

This is a quality player loaded with lots of features which are good for the money.

One question, others have mentioned a 50 dollar rebate, anyone know how I can recieve this? email me and let me know...

4 stars for value as there are cheaper players but... they don't have all the features, a 4.5 would be better but...

5 stars for overall because it is a great player and I have no faults with it.

Strength:

S-video, composite video, optical and coaxial outputs.

Weakness:

None

What can be said bad about a Sony dvd player that has this many features for less than $200 (after Sony's $50 rebate)? Once the menu system is learned (not that hard) the rest is pretty easy. The audio and video quality is well above and beyond the price range. Some other units that are priced comparably don't boast the features this unit has. Case in point, my brother-in-law spent about the same and only has RCA plugs at the rear. Poor him.
If you want the quality of a Sony and don't want to break your home theater budget on a single component...Go for the Sony 360. You won't be sorry!

Strength:

clear sound and picture, more than enough outputs. Great dvd for the price range

Weakness:

Has pause twice on me during the first couple of days of playing and I've played 9 movies on it in 3 days. noise from dvd turning can be heard, but only if you are right by it or, it is relatively silent in the room

Got the sony dvp-s360 for my birthday, and what can I say....I'm impressed. The picture is of course much, much, much clearer than vhs. I love all of the extra out puts and the sound is crisp and clear. The on screen display is also top notch. I was going to go with the toshiba sd1600, but the sony had more outputs and a few extra bells and whistles.

Strength:

This is a follow-up to my 2/16 post... I have received many emails and questions regarding my continued use of the s360, so here it goes... Solid build quality, slim design, smooth scanning, good in-player letterboxing.

Weakness:

Has a noticeable Chroma delay (shifted color), can be very distracting especially on cartoons/animation with solid color edges.

Initially I was expecting this player to blow me away, and my expectations were way too high (after all this player costs less than $150!). But, after living with it for a while and doing some comparisons between dvd rentals and LD movies of the same titles that I own, I see that this is an excellent player. I let my disappointment cool off for a few days after I bought the S360 and got the AVIA evaluation disc. The player handled it very well - resolution, color saturation, everything looked excellent. I rented Austin Powers (Inter. Man of Mystery) and Independence Day to compare to two of the finest looking lasers I had. With Austin Powers, it was no contest. The laserdisc was excellent, but when I switched to the dvd, I couldn't believe how much better it was! The pictuer was sharper, more colorful, and the absence of color noise was apparent over the laserdisc. On Independence Day (an anamorphic dvd) the player-letterboxed image still had a slight edge over the laserdisc version, although this was much closer than the Austin comparison. The ID4 dvd had a slight but noticeable increase of resolution compared to the LD, but the LD color fidelity was better - the dvd had a slight green tinge that by itself is not that noticeable, but compared to the laser it's there. This same tinge is also noticeable in 16x9 mode through S-video on my Proscan 27" tv. Obviously I don't watch movies in "tall and skinny" mode on a 4x3 tv, but one guy had mentioned that the colorations and blurryness I wrote about a few weeks ago could be due to the letterbox conversion inside the player. I don't believe it is; I think that is just the way certain dvds look. The Sony is exonerated in this regard. Bottom line is, I have rented numerous dvd's by now and can say that this is an outstanding player for the money. The abberations I've seen were because of the dvd's and not something that the sony was adding, except for the slightly softer picture compared to the toshibas and panasonics. However, I'll take a very natural looking picture that is only comparebly softer over a hyped-up, artificial, supersharp picture of some competing players. By the way, the player has not frozen up or behaved glitchy on any of the dvds I've fed it during the last 3 weeks of daily use. Also, I can see what some people have been saying about disc-whirring noise, but I cant hear it from my seat unless there is TOTAL silence in the room and I turn my ear toward it and really really listen (it's about 8 feet away in a rack with no glass covering it). Thanks to everyone who wrote me over the past few weeks, I hope this clears things up. I highly recommend this player>
