Strength:
Great on-screen display of menu options
Weakness:
Bad construction causes unit to mis-align and renders the unit incapable of scanning a disk. Sony, as of 9/23/01 is offering a 50% discount off of it's $128 labor fee for the infamous NO DISC error or the C:13:00 error. By counting the number of times this problem is happening on this board, it seems Sony has a problem with it's quality assurance and quality control. Well, I am glad I happened across this discussion. Two nights ago my DVD stopped playing ANYTHING and gave me the No Disk message as well. I doubt I will ever buy another Sony product again, which is sad because I really enjoyed this player. |

Strength:
Good Picture and Sound. All the connections that the average person would need.
Weakness:
Noisy when playing DVD's. Does not play CD-R. Wow, was I surprised to read all the negative reviews on this DVD player. I've had mine for over a year with no problems (I bought it when it first came out). No disc errors, no skipping, nothing that has caught my attention. So far so good. According to many of the reviews though, looks like I'll soon have a good excuse to upgrade to a better player. I've been lucky, but if you are in the market for a entry level DVD player this unit (apparently) is not worth the gamble. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
price, easy to use
Weakness:
length of use, Sony's "support" (if you can call it that) I too received the NO DISC problem with the Sony DVP-s360. Customer "Service" told me that "this is NOT a known issue" with this product. I find that quite hard to believe given the sheer number of complaints on this site alone. This is what has pissed me off the most--Sony's handling of the situation. |

Strength:
Low price.
Weakness:
Does not read DVDs anymore. Same problems as all the rest. Isn't there some kind of Ralph Nader plan of attack here? Shouldn't we ban together and demand a replacement player that works right? Let me know if I'm missing something here, but clearly there is a problem that Sony needs to aknowledge. |

Strength:
Excellent picture quality, particularly with letterboxed material. Analog audio outputs very high quality. Virtual surround feature. Detailed menus. Can dim the display.
Weakness:
Needs re-alignment and adjustment every so often to prevent the dreaded C:13 error. I've had this player since February 2001 (about 8 months now). I noticed the C:13 disc read error occurring after only 2 months of operation. I scoured the web and discovered how to get into the player's service mode and apply its automatic drive alignment which seems to resolve the problem (at least for me). Strength:
The SONY tag on the unit
Weakness:
It dies in under 1 year Avoid this unit at all costs. Will never buy a SONY product again. I get the 'No Disc' error like everyone else. I will now begin trying to contact SONY, to get the darn thing repaired (in under a year of use??). Not a good way to do business. Unfortunatly, I am forced to give the unit one star, otherwise I would give none... Similar Products Used: Sony S300 and S330 |

Lasted longer than most
Weakness:
Going downhill after 14 months Same story here... bought the unit as my first DVD player and was very happy with it. Then I found one of my older CDs that it would not read. Then an occasional "skip" while watching movies. Last night (bought the unit about 14 months ago) it froze in the middle of "Chocolat". Tried stopping, starting... got the C13 error. I discovered the bottom of the unit, right in the middle, was too hot to comfortably hold my hand on. I tried elevating the unit on blocks for better cooling, but that didn't help. Had to turn the unit off for a while to let it cool down in order to finish the movie. There's still a few minutes in the middle of the movie that it never did play, but at least I got to finish it. I'm assuming that my unit is on its last legs. |

Strength:
Worked great for 7 months
Weakness:
On the 8th month it stopped On the 8th month I got the "C13" error. After finding this website I learned more about the DVP-S360 than I EVER wanted to know. Since it was a X-mas present, the person who bought it did not get the service plan. I returned it to Best Buy to learn that ONLY parts would be covered not labor. Does any other Mfg. give ANY product a 3 month labor warranty??? Well, after 2wks of waiting I've found out it will be $109 to repair and 10+ days to get the parts to fix it. I said "repair it," because when it's fixed I'm gonna buy the $40 extended warranty from Best Buy and pray that it breaks 2 more times so I can exchange it. There's got to be a better DVD player avail. now for $250 (lucky I still have the receipt). Similar Products Used: 1st DVD Player |

Strength:
it broke
Weakness:
it broke Same experience as most everyone else who bought this boat anchor. Mine lasted a little over 6 months. This was my first DVD so I had nothing to compare with. Much better than a VCR though. All I get now is the "no disc" message. Took it back to Circuit City and got the same old story. Would cost me $30 to get an estimate, without fixing it. If fixed would probably be $100 minumum.
