Strength:

Plays DVDs?

Weakness:

Began cr*pping out after 8 months; C:13 error.
Sound familiar? Anyone? Anyone?

Like many other posters here, this was not my first Sony purchase, but it will likely be my last unless they do something soon. The local service center wants $128 to repair it, but I will go purchase another player before I give them any more of my money.

I emailed Sony earlier this week, but have had no response.

I encourage all users, dissatisfied or not, to post their reviews here. I'm betting that the average rating will begin to plummit as more players get to that magic 8 month to 1 year point.

Weakness:

The dreaded C:13:00 error. Had my unit a little over a year, now it's pretty useless.

I've had this unit over a year and until now was generally happy with it until now. Now I have the C:13:00 error which makes most DVDs unplayable on this unit. The performance up until this point was satisfactory. I was getting a reasonably good picture on my 32" Proscan. However, for the price of this unit it lacks many of the 'bells and whistles' that can be found on similarly priced units - such as a zoom feature or the ability to play CD-Rs. Basically, I'll buy a new DVD player (since fixing this one just seems to be a headache). I definitely won't buy Sony! I'm leaning toward Panasonic, however, their manual appears to be written by twits.

Strength:

Worked good for 1st 4 months, good sound

Weakness:

Inexcusably LOUSY build quality

Bought new in 4/01, at first very impressed with picture and sound quality, especially playing DTS encoded movies. It lasted until 8/01, froze up in middle of movie. Best Buy wanted $115.20 in labor to fix, (parts still under warranty). Now have a nice looking paperweight and remote that operates nothing. Have spent well over $4,000 on Sony products (TV, 3 VCR's, car stereo, CD changer, etc.) over the last couple years and after this and the last shoddy Sony VCR, will no longer buy their products.

Strength:

great 1-3 month performer

Weakness:

makes a terrible DVD player after 3 months

Just glad to know I am not alone at getting completely rear ended by Sony. I will never buy another Sony product as long as I live, and plan to "attempt" some sort of action to bring this issue to the public eye. I really loved this player the first couple of months, but unlike most of the other reviewers, I only got 6 months of life out of it. The "No Disc" error has got to be one of the most frustrating things I have ever encountered. There are no "lucky ones" out there, eventually this player will break down on you. Venting feels good, and Sony Sucks!

none yet

I have had this unit for about 13 months and have not had any problems with it. I was amazed by all the reviews about the C13 error. Now I'm very worried. I wonder what the longest that someone has had trouble free operation? I will report back if this changes but as of now I think it may be a quality control issue in a batch of shipments. Good luck in getting some resolution to the matter. I would stay away from this player and am seriously considered staying away from sony altogether when upgrading my player in a year.

I would advise everyone to contact the BBB and the State Attorney General in regards to this 200 dollar paperweight. Has not worked properly after three months of use. Repeated attempts to contact Sony have been frustrating and fruitless. Will never purchase another Sony product again. Hoping for a Class Action Lwasuit...

"NO DISC" "NO DISC" "NO DISC". God I hate those words. I also saw them as my Sony S360 hit the 13 month mark. Averaging out to $20.00 a month to own this peice of junk and now haveing to drop another $250 on anything but a Sony, I can say that they have deffinetally lost 3 customers, as both my brother and brother-inlaw have had the same problem with this inferior product (otherwise know as a peice of s#!t).

I - Like most of the reviewers have had the machine more than 1 year, it started skipping about 3 months before the end of the warranty, but not excessively.

It is almost definitely static that damages the laser. If you take the disc out, rub it vigorously against your shirt then put it back - it will play the rest of the movie.

I will never buy another Sony DVD Player and it appears that getting it repaired is throwing good money after bad.

Are there no consumer protection laws? It seems that Sony have no morals or they would have recalled the player or at least offered an exchange.

I've reviewed previously, but wanted to add another tidbit.

It's interesting that several reviewers have said that Sony claims that there are no known issues with this model. However, I called the Good Guys store where I purchased my brick, and the sales guys said, "Oh, yes. I'm very familiar with that unit." Yes, there had been a lot of failures with it, but it was not a "design problem." He threw out this "logic": the S360 had been so popular and had outsold other units by at least 3-1, so it only seems like there's a lot of failures because there are so many more players out there (What????????). I was stunned and didn't know how to respond.

I think I'll call back today and ask to talk to someone with a high school diploma.

By the way, Sony, if you're reading this. I'm going out today to buy a Panasonic player to replace your junk.

Strength:

Good at stopping my door from closing (ie a good door step)

Weakness:

SONY makes it, SONY warranty, SONY customer service, SONY

This is follow up to one of my previous posts. My player produces the infamous 'NO DISC' error. I called SONY and asked to fix it. I was past my warranty so they only offered 25% off the price which still amounted to $100. After lots of arguing with their customer 'service' I told them that I would no longer buy another SONY product. They wouldn't even send me the part!! I just figured if they botched it the first time, why would I want to give them a second chance?? Now I'm saving for a Pioneer Elite DV-37. I am also going to look at the harmon/kardon. They have a two year parts and labor warranty on their USED products (ie from uBid). It's a shame, but now I have to look into the warranties that these companies provide...
