Strength:

Good picture until c13:00 appeared

Weakness:

constant c13:00 error messages; no disk error; skipping chapters

Another frustrated user getting the "c13:00" and "no disk" errors. Mine's been doing this for the past month, I've owned it for about 13 months. Given the consistency of these complaints, Sony appears to have put a defective product into the marketplace. Time to switch brands.

Strength:

it plays pretty well when it actually works.

Weakness:

do you really need to ask?

i really sympathize with all the upset and disappointed consumers posting here. I have the same model by sony, but mine has yet to die out on me due to the c13 error. My PS2 will have to take over when it does, since it does seem to be inevitable. My player has taken heavy use and hasn't displayed any signs of error or skipping. i think i've had it for about a year now, but who knows when it'll approach its expiration date. I really hope Sony does take action soon. They will be losing a lot of customers if they don't. It's ironic that I bought it at my workplace without picking up the practically free service plan.

Hey, Kip you don't happen to work for Sony do you? My unit has always been problematic and is getting worse. Went thru the calibration and am still having problems. I have noticed one thing that nobody else has commented on - the unit works much better cold than warm. I have it in a cabinet with the rest of my equipment and it does get warm in there, not hot though. At start up seems to work O.K.(on some disks) and then about half way through a movie it will start skipping.

You have noticed that Sony redesigned their tracking system to better deal with disk problems?

Strength:

Slim chassis. Worked great for 15 months.

Weakness:

Flawed product. Seems to have a time-bomb that detonates after warranty period.

After 15 months of working great, my player crapped out last night. It first locked up, then gave me the famous "C:13" and "NO DISC" problems, which are described repeatedly below. I tried the re-calibration procedure to no avail. In going through the re-calibration process, though, it was interesting to note that my machine had 138 hours of use on it. Based on the feedback below, it's not worth it to try and fix the thing so I'm off to find a better DVD player.

...Too bad though. I've always been a loyal SONY consumer (especially to their TVs). Looks like SONY marred their good name with the S360 DVD player, though, since based on my own experience and the review of others on this site, this product is apparently a LEMON!!! I'm steering clear of SONY products for my next DVD player.

Strength:

Great conversation piece as a lawn ornament.

Weakness:

Its inability to prop open my front door on a windy day.

Can't hold the weight of my wife's car when I'm changing her oil.

I too have the dreaded c:13 issue. Unfortunately, calibration didn't help me. I urge each and every one of you who are considering the purchase of a <$300.00 Sony product whether it be DVD, receiver, or minidisc. Don't!! Is anyone into minidiscs at all? Does the phoney, I mean, Sony JE-510 ring a bell? That was another mass produced Sony nightmare that I had the pleasure of being involved in. Go ahead, type this one up in AudioReview, you'll see what I'm talking about. The thing that kills me is that Sony was just as indifferent with my minidisc player (about two years ago now) as with my S360. Nice to know things haven't changed.

Anyway, I'm asking all of you out there to recommend a good player for <$250 or so. Pioneer, Panasonic preferred. No more Sony, no more.

Strength:

Lightweight,good remote

Weakness:

Doesn't Work after 1 year. NO DISC ERROR

After 12 short months of casual usage the player just quit. The NO DISC ERROR message kept coming on and the unit would not work at all. I took it to a repair store and he said that it might work as a paper weight. If there's a class action lawsuit, count me in......No More Sony's for this house.....

no disc! error message, I wish I could at least get the C13:00 error message so I could try to recalibrate it.

useless electronics. at least I didn't pay for it(won it in a raffle). I've tried to calibrate, but it won't do anything if it doesn't recognize a disc. oh well, merry christmas, time to buy myself a present

Case is tough when hit

Weakness:

Too Many to Mention

I had previously posted a review - claiming that the C13 and No Disk errors might be related to Static. I would now like to change my mind.

In despair, this unit died after 13 months, it was a slow painful death with many C13 errors and indeed the unit went blind because even though there were disks in the machine, it could not see them (NO DISK).

I had tried the re-calibration with no success, so I bit the bullet and got a new Toshiba SD4700. Even when the Sony was working it was not a patch on this new machine. Picture quality, sound and progressive scan are worth the extra money.

Just before submitting this review, I noticed that there was a variation on the calibration of the sony, tried it and well wadda ya know - I know have 2 dvd players that work - for how long - nobody knows. I will not hold my breath on the Sony but my daughter will be pleased.

I will NEVER buy another device from Sony, there customer service center says that there is a fixed price for repair of the unit, even though they claim there are no inherent errors with it. Looks like $190 to recalibrate it or buy an new one, try the recalobration yourself and make someone happy.
