Strength:

Decent player -

Weakness:

same as everyone c:13:00 error. IT SUCKS!!

My wife and I are going crazy with the c13 error. It is maddening that we are having an increasingly difficult time making it through a movie without troubles. I hope Sony gets wind of this problem and does something about it!

C:13:00 Error

This is in regards to my earlier posting. Yes, I had the dreaded C:13:00 'no disk' - 'dirty disk' error. I too called Sony and they also denied that any problem existed and that they had no other reports on this unit. Basically, I'll never buy a SONY product again. HOWEVER, when looking for a replacement (no sence getting it fixed), I came across the manager of a Tweeter store. Even though it was out of warranty and I bought it at Circuit City, he said they would take it back at their current price, $155, as long as I had the original packaging and receipt. WOW!!! For less than $80, I got the Toshiba 2715 5 disc changer. I haven't always had good luck at Tweeter - and their prices are usually a little high for my taste, but I was extremely pleased how they went the distance for me. I certainly will give them first shot at my other purchases. Thumbs up!

As for the Sony, 1 star is way too much for this piece of dung.

I also had the same problem of "no disc". My 360 only lasted 14 months(what a joke).I called sony and they told me there would be a flat fee of $190 to fix it and that this was not a common problem. After reading the reviews here it is apperant that they are not willing to help anyone. I foolishly replaced my 360 with the newer 300. I have had it only 3 weeks and guess what appeared on the display??? NO DISC It will be going back to circuit city for any brand except sony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Good feature set and specs.

Weakness:

Reliability

Ditto on the C13 error, followed by never reading any disk, any time, ever again. If it's not a giant engineering screwup, it's the most arrogant case of planned obsolesence I've seen. Not even the least bit subtle, judging by the size of the audience experiencing the same failures in the same interval. Very disappointing, to say the least, because of the otherwise great set of features.

I began to smell trouble when I took it to the technician desk at Best Buy and was told that my estimate of 200+ hours of use in 14 months before it quit was "typical." I also have a houseful of other Sony-label equipment which I've been happy with, but this has soured me enough to look elsewhere on future purchases of electronics.

Alright, just got my unit back from Sears and wanted to let everybody know what repairs were required. I bought the one year service plan from Sears and boy am I glad I did. Sony sure stuck everybody with a LEMON here. I was getting the exact same problems as everyone else. NO DISC and C13:00 error messages after 8 months of use. According to the Sony service order:

"Replaced resistors and laser in unit, plays fine now..."

the two resistors were $2.16 ea with $109.00 in labor, the laser was $173.49 with $58.00 in labor.
GRAND TOTAL = $344.81 parts & labor (which I did not have to pay because I bought the one year warranty for $39.99)

I just watched 1 DVD with no problems. I will post if any others occur. I cant believe that SONY would stick a sick product like this on the market and then deny any problems with it. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT--EVER! I cannot comment on their other products but I assure you I will never give them a chance.

Strength:

Good video quality before the UNIT DECIDED TO CURL UP AND DIE.

Weakness:

Refusing to play any disc (DVD or CD) and giving "No Disc" errors is a definite weakness.

My story with this unit is the same as everyone else's. It worked fine for 9 or 10 months and then just decided to give me "No Disc" errors. I made sure the discs were in perfect condition, the head was clean, etc but all to no effect. Someone on a hardware forum I read mention this "review" of the model so I decided to take a look. After reading this, I've decided I won't be buying Sony products any more. Their complete unwillingness to fix a SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW, even while the product is under warranty, is unforgivable. And then to try to charge people to fix said flaw? Only to have it break again? Sorry Sony, you're not the only game in town. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Strength:

Excellent picture and sound.

Weakness:

High chance of it dying on you!

I bought this player in August of 2000. I was in heaven every time I watched a DVD. The colors were bold, the picture had excellent detail, and the digital sound absolutely rocked the house!

15 months later.... Any disc I insert into the player, be it CD or DVD, will not play. I just get a message of 'no disc'. I have tried cleaning the lens, and have also checked for any loose connections in the player. I even tried tinkering with the alignment settings in the diagnosis menu, which is reached by powering it up with the remote with this key sequence: TITLE, CLEAR, POWER.

It didn't take me long to find other people on message boards with this exact problem, leading me to believe that there is a manufacturing problem with this player. I also have found that Sony has no interest in remedying this product flaw, leaving me with the unfortunate solution of purchasing another unit from a different manufacturer.

If Sony comes up with a reasonable solution to this problem, I will change my stance and will update this review, until then, I will be avoiding Sony products.

We have seen the same problem as others on this list. Just another dissatisfied customer who bought the device on the Sony name.

GRAB YOUR ATTORNEY!!! I hear a class-action in the works!

Actually, mine has been fine over the 10 months I've owned it but everyone else here makes me want to go out and get something else for good measure. It's too bad, I had bought this for the SONY name along. I have a SONY TV, SONY Receiver, SONY CD, SONY Mini-system and SONY Speakers. I thought things would be safe buying something reliable like a SONY?

What a reputation ruiner! I wonder if the S360 will gain the same infamy as the Ford Edsel? Like:

"Buddy, looks like you got yourself a S360 of a DVD player!"

Pet-peeves: (other than the fact that everybody has been having problems) no S-Link ouput; no priority setting for DTS, DD 5.1, Dolby Surround (have to manually change it every time to your preference).
