Strength:

I thought i was cool cause I had a DVD player

Weakness:

This DVD player is a three pump chump!!!!!

This thing started to crap out after a month of use,
I thought perhaps it was the rental DVDs....to my dismay
the player will not read anything any longer....after reading all the poor reviews I would think Sony would buck up and replace some of their defective players. Guess again...Repair estimate= $215.00, the unit sells for $199.00....my suggestion is to avoid it. What happened here, I thought u could rely on SONY???? Policy shmolicy...... I deserve an exchange of equal value for my poor DVD experience!!!!!

Strength:

Sony brand name, matches the rest of my equipment. Remote is THE BOMB.

Weakness:

Quality, reliability

False C13 errors (disc dirty), false NO DISC errors, skips chapters, locks up, pausing, etc. Wouldn't recommend this particular model. I'm planning on trying the DVP-NS300 as an alternative, maybe I'll have better luck. I'm very disappointed in this product from Sony because I'm used to the excellent quality (but not this time). Sorry Sony - only 1 star on this one.

Strength:

Ease of use, full featured remote

Weakness:

Major breakdown after ten months of use, Sony warranty no help

Player worked fine for 10 months then died suddenly in the middle of a movie, would not read any disc. Sony-approved repair shop replaced two resistors. Sony warranty inadequate (90 day labor, 1 year parts), cost $75 labor for the above repair.

Player ran fine for another month then died in a similar fashion (C:13:00 or NO DISC message for every disc I own). Back to shop where all resistors tested OK and player worked fine for repair technician (I saw it working with my own eyes). When I returned home same problem as before. Sony tells me they will only replace the machine on the advice of a service technician.

I purchased the player based on the number of features for the money and compatability with my Sony receiver and CD changer. However, any amount would be too much to pay for this piece of junk. I do not intend to put any more money into this or any other Sony product.

Strength:

Good picture quality, when it works.

Weakness:

Skips all the time. Constant disruption in video. Will not play some DVDs at all. Noisy, and takes a long time to start playing.

This was my first DVD player, which I purchased over a year ago. I originally wanted to get a Toshiba DVD player, but a friend of mine convinced me to get a Sony. I started having problems with this player approximately 5 months after I first bought it. I kept getting an error message which indicates that the disk is dirty, when it wasn't. I then purchased a laser cleaner cd and cleaned the DVD laser. The DVD player seemed to work properly for a very short time and then the same thing occured. I bought a new Jackie Chan DVD and when I opened it and tried to play it, it would not play, kept giving me a dirty disk message, when it was a new DVD. My brother who owns an Oritron DVD player was able to play the DVD without a problem. After this experience, I would not buy a Sony DVD player again. I just ordered a Toshiba SD2715 and I really hope it will prove to be much better than the Sony.

Strength:

Ease of use and setup.

Weakness:

The stop button on the remote is too accessible.

After using the Samsung 709 for 1 year it stopped functioning, so decided to get a new model. The Sony seemed
priced right for its features. The first one I picked up, gets to a point in a movie and skips back to the beginning of the scene. This happened for a number of DVDs that I owned and rentals as well. Brought it back and the salesman was quick to replace it with another one. Same problem...
Is there a batch of players sitting in this store with this problem? I want to return this thing and get something that works.

Strength:

Good features for the money.

Weakness:

Can't handle anything less than a perfect DVD. At least once during any movie there is a pause when the player looks for the next chapter. Ugly screen saver.

My Sony seems pretty good, but it isn't perfect. I don't understand why everyone thinks Sony is so great, to me they seem middle of the road. Hitachi, Panasonic, JVC, etc. make as good or better products.

Strength:

Easy setup, price

Weakness:

No zoom

Just installed the 360 last week as my first ever DVD. I can't compare the image to other DVD's, but to me it looks simple amazing.
The setup took 10 minutes, no confusion, great manual.
Remote looks too much like my TV remote, but who cares?
Slim, solid chasis and looks great.
Remember, this is Sony's *bottom end* DVD... not too shabby if you ask me. Zoom would be cool, but after the novelty wears out, when would you use it?
I've played around 10 DVD's on it, of various quality and ages (mostly rental)... not a single problem yet.
Seems quiet enough to me... I can only hear it changing tracks when I play with the menu, but during the movie it's quiet as a mouse. If you can hear it, you don't have the volume up loud enough. ;)

Strength:

Everything. The size, remote, quality, price.

Weakness:

None

I am the type who must research products before purchasing them. So I went to Epinions, Consumer Product Review and other sites to find out what was the best. This player came to the top every time. Plus I like to spend a little more in the long run to get a product that will last longer. After about a week of researching both product and price I choose this DVD. This is a great DVD player. If you are looking for a good DVD player and do not want to spend too much money this is the one to buy. I got this for Christmas and LOVE it. I have it hooked up to my Sony receiver using the digital optical inputs. I was blown away with the true surround sound that I have been missing all this time. Having a DVD player truly adds to the home theater experience. The player is small and the remote is well laid out. It took some time to set up for true surround sound but if you were just hooking it up the conventional way you should have no problems. It probably would have taken me only 15 minutes to hook it up. All-in-all it is a great DVD player. I have recommended it to a couple of friends (who know my researching sickness)who have since purchased the same one.
